I know…my title is wordy and not very clear as to what I or my small team really does, so I’ll explain. We are all former interior designers or architects who have become what are called ‘workplace strategists’. We help organizations develop workplace strategies – that is, the underlining logic an organization uses to make decisions about the design, allocation and use of space for work. Every organization has a workplace strategy, whether they realize it or not, when they make decisions about where they work, who gets what workspace and how it can be used. Our goal is to help them make those decisions consciously, and with as much good information as possible, so they feel good about what they’ve decided, AND they consider Allsteel a trusted advisor for helping them. So we sell more. And they are happy with their investment with us and come back to us when they need something else. For those of you who have heard about our POV (point of view) story that helps us describe what makes Allsteel unique, you know it refers to the challenges customers have in connecting their business strategy to their workplace strategy. That’s exactly why my team exists - to help them do that. To translate how they want to work, through the lens of their culture and values, into how the physical workplace should support them. We have a series of tools we use to do all this, and our own internal Design Applications team works really closely with us to develop product solution recommendations. Our tools include papers we’ve written explaining trends and best practices, surveys and other activities to identify how they work, stories of what other customers have done and what’s working and not working, and examples of really smart “kit-of-parts”. We’re not the only ones who do this: many (but not all) design firms and several real estate firms, like Jones Lang LaSalle, also provide those services to their clients. In those cases, we don’t try to take that work away from them, since they’re usually getting paid for those services, while we include them in the cost of product. Instead, we offer to help, if they want it. All of our major competitors also offer these services in one form or another; and some DO charge for them. We think we have a competitive advantage, though, because our approach is consistent with our brand: we don’t prescribe, but instead help the customer to discover what’s best for THEM (if you’ve heard the parable that says “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach him to fish and you feed him for life” – we definitely believe in teach our customers to fish). And we help make sense of all the hype that’s out there about what the workplace should be. We love what we do, and we’re so glad it’s of value to our customers. It’s wonderful to be a part of an organization that puts our customers’ success first. Thanks for all you do every day to make that happen too.

Letter from Leadership - Jan Johnson

Hi, my name is Jan Johnson, and I’m Allsteel’s VP of Design and Workplace Resources.

Member Highlight- Natalie Anderson

Natalie Anderson has been with Allsteel since January 2014 as a Sr. Specialist, Integrated Support. When asked about Natalie, Darren Garrett responded that he has always been impressed with her “can-do attitude and her ability to manage an ever-changing workflow.” Ultimately, Natalie’s commitment to serving our sales members is what really stands out to those who know her. Thanks, Natalie, for all that you do!

What do you love about working for Allsteel/HNI?The opportunity to start and grow a new team; Integrated Support. Many organizations only talk of making organizational change, so I came to Allsteel because there were actions being taken and members in positions who were serving as catalysts for change. I thrive on that type of energy. What motivates you every day?The Integrated Support team. These young professionals never shy away from a challenge. I have all the confidence in the world that they can do anything they set their mind to. My rewards come from seeing them build character, lift each other up, and even surprise themselves. What are your hobbies outside of work? When I’m not at work, I like jogging with my miniature schnauzers, Levi and Layla, spending time with my family, or volunteering at the Quad City Airshow and Dress for Success Quad Cities. I’m also a Certified Reflexologist and Reiki Master, so I enjoy helping people with stress reduction and energy work. I also like researching and learning about essential oils. Do you have any advice to give to members? To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of the arts. – Henry David Thoreau

Your Wealth- Stock Discount

Did you know that HNI offers stock to its members at a 15% discount?
