Welcome to Kamehameha Schools 29TH ANNUAL ALUMNI WEEK

Today, I welcome you back as the Poʻo Kula of this campus and am so honored to be here serving the haumāna and future leaders of Hawaiʻi and beyond. I know many of you too have accomplished outstanding achievements yourselves that have contributed in many different ways that honor the legacy of our Princess and lift our lāhui.

May you enjoy renewing old friendships as you join in the activities of Alumni Week 2018. I know that our Parents & Alumni Relations division has worked tirelessly to put together activities and programs that will be fun, uplifting, and bring a deeper awareness and appreciation to our Hawaiian well-being – culturally, spritually, socially, economically, physically, emotionally, and cognitively. As we say now at Kamehameha, E Ola!

My wife Nizhoni and my ʻohana welcome you back to campus and on behalf of our current generation of “good and industrious young men and women” and their kumu who are committed to nurturing them. We honor you the alumni of our beloved Kamehameha Schools. Welcome home and have a wonderful reunion celebration.

Ua ao Hawaiʻ i iā Pauahilaninui – Enlightened is Hawaiʻi this day because of our beloved Princess Pauahi.

Me ke aloha pumehana,

Dr. Taran K. Chun, Poʻo KulaKamehameha Schools – Kapālama

Welcome back to your alma mater! Our founder, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, envisioned the Kamehameha Schools serving Native Hawaiians into perpetuity and we are all proof of that. Iʻm sure all of you feel as I do, indebted to Kamehameha Schools and Pauahi for the opportunities afforded us while enrolled as students here on the Kapālama campus. The experiences we had as students here helped us to build a strong foundation on which we were able to build our future.

Aloha mai kākou!

We the alumni are represented by the blossoming rose buds in the lei, one for every class present at this year’s celebration, and although beautiful and fragrant on its own, it is only when woven together that we form a circle of beauty that cannot be broken. Like a beautiful rose lei, we surround the princess with our love, for she is the source of all our strength and pride. Be a part of this culminating and celebrated event!
