This research will determine whether adding neurocognitive self-control training to a

Undermining parental control: An examination of neurocognitive influences of food

advertisements in children.

This research project will examine both the behavioral and the neurofunctional influences

of food advertisements in children using food intake as one outcome measure.

Development of a Motivational Intervention to Improve Treatment Adherence in MS

The goal of this project is to improve communication between multiple sclerosis patients

and health care providers in hopes of increasing adherent medication behaviors.

A quantum leap: Advancing developmental neuroscience of decision-making

This project merges quantum probability theory, recently found to better describe human

cognition, with behavioral choice tasks and functional magnetic resonance imaging

(fMRI) to gain a better understanding of youth decision-making processes, particularly

related to food choices. Total Direct Costs: $75,000

Frontiers Pilot & Collaborative Studies Program Bruce, AS (PI) 9/11-3/12

Food for Thought: Can Stomach Surgery Change the Brain?

This is first project to examine the effects of bariatric surgery on brain physiology in

comparison to a behavioral weight loss intervention. The findings from this research can

improve our understanding of successful long-term weight loss and open additional

avenues for new behavioral and pharmacological weight loss interventions.

The Neuroeconomics of Controversial Food Technologies

In collaboration with agricultural economists, this research project examined brain

activation to various types of controversial food technologies (e.g. cloning) uses

functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).

Group leader for the Healthy Hawks childhood obesity clinic. Lead and co-lead parent

and child (ages 3-17) psychoeducational groups for a 12-week behavioral family obesity

treatment program. The Healthy Hawks Clinic involves a team including pediatricians,

psychologists, exercise physiologists, and dieticians to target the multi-factorial causes of

obesity.

Conducted screening assessments to determine inclusion in NIH funded K-award (PI

Weisberg). Administered structured diagnostic clinical interviews (Structured Clinical

Interview for DSM-IV), alcohol/drug assessments (AUDIT, DUDIT) and the Hamilton

Anxiety Report Scale (HARS) to prospective subjects for a cognitive-behavioral group

therapy for anxiety disorders. Conducted focus groups discussing subjects’ reactions and

opinions of a cognitive-behavioral group therapy for anxiety disorders in the primary care
