    AWS Civic Apps Challenge FAQ

    Q: What is the AWS Civic App Challenge?

    The AWS Civic App Challenge is a competition designed to identify, award, and support innovative U.S. based businesse

    developing civic applications on AWS solutions. After a series of judging rounds, we will select Four Category Finalists (o

    for each category), 12 Category Leaders (3 for each category), and a Grand Prize winner (one of the four Finalists).

    Categories are:

    1. Utilities and Energy

    2. Education

    3. Public Safety and Health

    4. Community Services

    We encourage all eligible businesses who are transforming public data into scalable solutions for citizens, businesses, a

    government organizations with their civic application(s) on AWS to enter.

    Q: Who is eligible to enter and win this contest?

    The AWS Civic Apps Challenge (Contest) is open to privately held U.S. businesses legally headquartered in the 50

    United States or the District of Columbia at the t ime of entry. The Contest and Official Rules are void where prohibited

    law, and are subject to applicable laws. Our and YouNoodle, Inc.s (YouNoodle) employees, parents, affiliates and

    subsidiaries, and participating advertising and promotion agencies and prize suppliers/funding entities, and members of

    their immediate family (spouse, domestic partner, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of whe

    they reside) or those living in their household, whether or not related) are not eligible. Entrants may not be members

    any guild, union or other organization that may prohibit them from participating in this Contest and that would restrict

    require due payment or otherwise have the right to oppose such entrants participation in this Contest. Prizes will be

    awarded in the name of the business that entered. By the time of submission, entrants must have an AWS account (se

    https://aws-portal.amazon.com/gp/aws/developer/registration/index.html). Any individual submitting an entry on beha

    of a business entity represents and warrants that he/she: (a) is an individual legal resident of the 50 United States or

    the District of Columbia and has reached the older of 18 years old or the legal age of majority in their state of residenc

    (b) has the full legal capacity to participate in this Contest, and (c) is authorized to submit an entry on behalf of such

    business entity. For full terms and conditions, please refer to our detailed AWS Civic App Challenge Official Rules.

    Q: What is the judging criteria?

    First Round: All qualified Entries will be judged by a panel of qualified judges that we select (Amazon Judging Panel)

    The Amazon Judging Panel will select 1 Finalist (Finalist) and 3 Category Leaders (Category Leaders) from each of t

    following 4 categories: 1. Utilities and Energy, 2. Education, 3. Public Safety and Health, and 4. Community Services. T

    Amazon Judging Panel will judge the qualified Entries using the following judging criteria: (a) implementation and

    integration of the Paid Services; (b) originality and creativity; (c) likelihood of long-term success and scalability; and (d)

    effectiveness in addressing a need in the public sector (the Judging Criteria). We reserve the right, in our sole

    discretion, to select fewer than 3 Category Leaders from any of the 4 categories if we do not receive a minimum of 4

    eligible and qualified Entries from such category.

    In end-October 2013, the potential Finalists and Category Leaders will be notified by e-mail or phone. In order to proce

    to the Final Round, each potential Finalist must notify us of his/her willingness to proceed to the Final Round within 2

    business days of notification and satisfy other eligibility requirements described in these Official Rules.

    If a potential Finalist does not timely satisfy all requirements set forth in the Official Rules, as determined by us in our

    sole discretion, a runner-up may be notified. The Finalists names will be announced on the Contest Website on or abo

    the end of October, 2013.

    Final Round: The final round of judging will take place on or about November 14, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the

    Amazon Web Services (AWS) re:Invent 2013 conference. Each Finalist must be present in person at the Final Round a

    must prepare, at his/her expense, a 10-minute presentation and demo of his/her Civic App Proposition. The presentatio

    and demo must be in English and will be presented to the Amazon Judging Panel. Each presentation and demo will be

    followed by up to 15 minutes of Q&A by the Amazon Judging Panel. The Amazon Judging Panel will then meet privately

    to conduct a final review of the Finalists Entries and judge the Entries using the Judging Criteria. Then a representativ

    from the Amazon Judging Panel will announce one Grand Prize winner for the Contest. Finalists must be present at theFinal Round to be eligible to win the Grand Prize. Following announcement of the Grand Prize winner, the Finalists may

    be asked to present their Civic App Propositions to the AWS re:Invent 2013 conference audience.

    Tie Breakers. In the event there are two or more identical and equally qualified Entries, as determined by us in our s

    discretion, only the first one to be submitted will be considered. In the event of a tie in any round, an additional tie-

    breaking judge selected by us will determine the Category Leader(s), Finalist(s) or Grand Prize winner, as applicable,

    using the Judging Criteria. All decisions of the Amazon Judging Panel and any tie-breaking judge are final and binding. F

    the purpose of these Official Rules, the Grand Prize winner, the Finalists and the Category Leaders may also be referred

    to in these Official Rules as winners.

    Q: Can I submit more than one entry?

    More than one Entry may be submitted by any entrant. However, no more than one Entry per entrant will be selected

    a Finalist or Category Leader. Any Entry submitted by an entrant must be substantially different than any other Entry

    submitted by that entrant.

    Q: Do I need to register for Amazon Web Services in order to be eligible?

    Yes, part of the judging criteria is the use and implementation of any paid service from Amazon Web Services in your

    Civic Apps proposition. In order to use Amazon Web Services, you must first register at https://aws-

    portal.amazon.com/gp/aws/developer/registration/index.html.

    Q: Does my application need to include a new idea or business?

    No, you can submit a Civic App Proposition in idea, prototyping or growth stage.

    Q: I am concerned about the confidentiality of my submission. Will it be made public?

    By participating in the Contest, each entrant warrants that it has the authority as sole owner of its Civic App Propositio

    to provide it to AWS, and that its Civic App Proposition and any other materials or information provided by it in

    connection with the Contest, including Civic App Marketing Materials (collectively, Submission Materials) do not infrin

    or misappropriate any intellectual or other property right of any other person or entity, including any patent or tradesecret. Each entrant understands that his/her Submission Materials are non-confidential and may be made public, in

    whole or in part. By submitting an Entry, each entrant grants to us and our affiliates an irrevocable, nonexclusive,

    worldwide, fully paid-up, perpetual and royalty-free license to make, use, reproduce, display, publically perform, create

    derivative works of all or a portion of the Submission Materials, as well as use the entrants name and company name,

    trademarks and logos, in any promotional materials produced by or for us or our affiliates. Further, each entrant, by

    submitting an Entry, grants to us or our affiliates an irrevocable, nonexclusive, worldwide, fully paid-up, perpetual and

    royalty-free license to make, use, reproduce, display, publically perform, create derivative works of, and disclose all or a

    portion of any Submission Materials in connection with the Contest. The foregoing grants shall be limited for a period of

    years for all eligible Entries; for 5 years for Entries submitted by the Category Leaders; and in perpetuity for Entries

    submitted by the Finalists (or to the maximum extent permissible under applicable law). The entrants, by the Official

    Rules, do not grant any other licenses to us or our affiliates under existing or future copyrights or patents. The entrant

    should be guided by their own attorneys as to the desirability of seeking patents or other protection for their Civic App

    Propositions. Each entrant acknowledges that we or our affiliates may currently or in the future be developing

    information, products, concepts, services, or techniques internally, or receiving information, products, concepts, service

    or techniques from other parties, that is similar to Submission Materials (Our Developed Materials). Nothing in the

    Official Rules will be construed as a representation or agreement that we or our affiliates will not develop or have

    developed information, products, concepts, systems, services or techniques that are similar to or compete with the

    products, concepts, systems, services or techniques contemplated by or embodied in any Submission Materials. Each

    entrant agrees to waive any claims or action he/she has or may have in connection with Our Developed Materials.

    Q: What services can I use to enter the contest?

    Amazon Glacier, Amazon CloudFront, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Dynamo DB, Amazon ElastiCache

    Amazon Elastic MapReduce, Amazon Flexible Payments Service (FPS), Amazon Mechanical Turk, AWS Elastic Beanstalk

    Amazon Redshift, Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), Amazon SimpleDB, Amazon Simple Notification Service

    (SNS), Amazon Simple Email Service (SES), Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS), Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3

    Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) (collectively, the Paid Services)

    Q: When will finalists be notified?

    In end-October 2013, the potential Finalists and Category Leaders will be notified by e-mail or phone.

    Q: If I am chosen as a finalist, can I bring someone with me?

    If you are chosen as a finalist, Amazon will pay airfare and hotel for one individual to Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. However

    you are welcome to bring along your business partner to present your business proposition to the judges panel at your

    own cost.

    Q: How do I get my $50 AWS credit?

    Credits and prizes (excluding the trip to the Final Round) will be delivered up to 60 days after the winners are

    announced. Promotional Credit prizes from AWS for Paid Services are not cumulative; each winner will be awarded no

    more than 1 Promotional Credit from AWS for Paid Services.
