General Information of America

South America is one of the 7 continents on the planet. The majority of its position lies within the Southern Hemisphere, and geographers

designate it as a subcontinent of the Americas. The Pacific Ocean borders South America to the west, and the Atlantic Ocean borders it to

the east. The Caribbean Sea and the North American continent lie to the northwest.

Of the seven continents, North America is the third largest by land mass and the fourth largest by population. North America consists of

twenty four countries, the largest by land mass being Canada. North America is home to over five hundred million people. The most

populated city in North America is Mexico City, Mexico, where there are almost nine million people currently residing.

A Historical Region

The geographic area of South America encompasses over 6,890,000 square miles. The population estimates from 2013 exceed

386,000,000 people. As one of the 7 continents, South America ranks fourth in geographic size behind Asia, Africa and North America. It

ranks fifth in total population behind Asia, Africa, Europe and North America.

The first North Americans are believed to be of Asian descent by crossing from North East Asia. The next settlers were of European

descent, starting with the Norse and continuing with the English, Spanish, and French. Although Columbus is credited with

discovering “The New World”, America was named after Amerigo Vespucci who first explained that Columbus' journey was not to

India but to an entirely different land mass. North America was then settled by all different groups of people, initially split between

the English, French, and Spanish. Spain claimed the southernmost land while France claimed mainland America and England claimed

northern territories and the east coast.

Geography

The South American continent contains many spectacular geographic sights. The highest waterfall in the world, Angel Falls, lies in

Venezuela. In addition, South America contains the highest volume river, the Amazon, the longest mountain range, the Andes, and the

driest area on the planet, the Atacama Desert. The Amazon Rainforest claims the title of the largest rainforest in the world, and Lake

Titicaca remains at the highest altitude and is regarded as the most commercially viable lake in the world.

North America is divided into four main geographic regions: the Great Plains, Canadian Shield, East and the West. The Great Plains is a

large area of grassland that stretched west of the Mississippi River and east of the Rocky Mountains in the central Canada and United

States. The Canadian Shield, or the Laurentian Plateau, is a large plateau region made mostly from igneous (or lava) rock covered in soil.

The East is characterized as everything east of the Appalachian Mountains, while the West is generally considered as everything west of

the Rocky Mountains.

The highest point of North America is Mount McKinley, Alaska, which reaches to 6,194 meters above sea level. The lowest point of North

America is Death Valley, California, which sinks to 86 meters below sea level. North America is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean in the east,

the Pacific Ocean in the west, the Arctic Ocean to the north, and both the Panama Canal and South America to the South. North America's

longest river is the Mississippi River, which runs from Northern Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. The largest freshwater lake in the world,

Lake Superior, can be found in both Ontario and Minnesota.

We had to make bigger our image and goodwill more coherent and to communicate

through it our whole set of values. We re-evaluated most of the things: our new name,

new logo, office design, the exterior design of transportation, the brochures, billboards

and launch a campaign to promote new company and image of the company. It was also

now that we assumed the new slogan: "We just don't say the best, We do the best”

National Tourism Award winner - No venture can be successful without a vision and

determination to excel. Behind our steady growth is the focused and well-planned

business strategy of its dynamic leader. Our directors with their exceptional vision,

foresight & strategic planning have ensured the commendations of all in the travel

related field.

WE ENDEAVOR TO BE RESPONSIBLE tour operator and respect nature and the

environment we work in. Tourism is a key element in the global economy, but it also has

its downside. Environmental protection is nothing new to us, which has been

committing itself to environmental activities since 2000. Since then, we have regularly

taken part in cleaning projects on various mountain paths that have been affected by

intensive tourism.

We operate our own environmental cleaning projects to keep the environment neat,

clean and green. We also organize ecology training and attract volunteers to participate

in our environmental projects. Moreover, we aim to bring awareness to our employees

on the necessity to care for nature and the environment.

We encourage activities such as reducing the use of paper, plastic and electric energy in

office activities, re-use and recycling.

Dreams Wishes&Sanyog Gupta Foundation

For us charity begins at home. We would soon launch a charitable organisation name

“Sanyog Gupta Foundation”. The foundation will help out all waifs and stray

children, needy people for living and other health related financial aid.

We made an announcement of this foundation in an interview to the newspaper here in

New Delhi, India. I have been thinking of opening a foundation like this for long and

when I am settled mentally and financially I decided it's the right prospect to announce

our foundation, because for us charity begins at home.

The charitable sector is an imperative and captivating one, economically socially and

culturally. Every one of the world's great religions emphasises the moral imperative of

charitable living. There is no code of ethics, whether religiously based or secular, that

does not mandate the strong to look after the week, shares Sanyog.

We have made a start by planning, organising, directing, staffing and controlling and

soon the project will hit the ground. We would be glad to be given any help from the

corporate world to raise funds for the foundation.

Day 05 : Manaus (B+D)This discovery provoked a mass arrival of population and transformed the city into a real cultural centre. Eduardo Ribeiro, governor in 1892, undertook major construction projects throughout the city, such as pavement of avenues, public lighting and the construction of squares as well as of the Port. But the reflection of this period, one of its biggest symbols, is to be found in one monument in particular, the Amazonas Theatre.

Day 06: Manaus (B+D)During our visit, we'll get to know the vibrant, colourful and very exotic floating town and its histories. The Alféndega or Aduana building for example, was constructed in Great Britain and brought there stone by stone. Another 20th century imported British construction, was the Adolfo Lisboa municipal market. With its obvious Parisian inspiration and Art Nouveau style, it became a meeting point for all of Manaus' habitants.

Day 07: Manaus (B+D)The already mentioned Amazonas Theatre, work of Charles Peyronton, was opened in 1896, during the opulent period of the rubber boom. These wooden floors consist of 12000 wooden pieces, perfectly laid together, without the use of any nails or glue. It has a 700 spectators capacity and is nowadays the Manaus' cultural centre. The Theatre has undergone subsequent restorations; the last of these was in 1990.

Day 07: Jarabacoa (B+D)After breakfast, proceed to River rafting excursion and return to hotel.

Jarabacoa is a town and the second largest municipality in La Vega Province, Dominican Republic. Although many historical details are still unknown, it is very possible that the native people of the island inhabited the valley of Jarabacoa. It is assumed that the city's name was formed out of the words 'Jaraba' and 'Coa', meaning "Land of Waters" in the native language.

Day 08: Jarabacoa (B+D)After breakfast, free day at hotel.

Some say that the Spanish conquistadors actually made it to Jarabacoa in their search for gold, but later abandoned the expedition. Some reasons include, resistance by the natives or as some say, because no large finds were ever made, although to this day gold can be washed from some of the many rivers.

Day 03: Montevideo (B+D)After breakfast, free day at your leisure.

The southernmost capital city in the Americas, Montevideo is situated in the southern coast of the country, on the northeastern bank of the Río de la Plata.

The city was established in 1724 by a Spanish soldier, Bruno Mauricio de Zabala, as a strategic move amidst the Spanish-Portuguese dispute over the platine region. It was also under brief British rule in 1807. Montevideo hosted all the matches during the first FIFA World Cup.

Montevideo has consistently been rated as having the highest quality of life of any city in Latin America: by 2015 has held this rank every year during the last decade. As of 2010, Montevideo was the 19th largest city economy on the continent and 9th highest income earner among major cities.

Day 04: Montevideo – Punta del Este (B+D)After breakfast, proceed to Punta del Este. Punta del Este is a city and resort on the Atlantic Coast in the Maldonado Department of southeastern Uruguay.

Although the city has a year-round population of about 9,280, the summer tourist boom adds to this a very large number of non-residents. Punta del Este is also the name of the municipality to which the city belongs. It includes Punta del Este proper and Península areas.

Day 05: Punta del Este (B+D)After breakfast, private Punta del Este City tour. We will start the city tour, enjoying a breathtaking view of beaches and surroundings.

Drive along the Mansa Beach of Punta del Este to visit the residential suburbs of Beverly Hills, El Golf, Cantegril, San Rafael with its spectacular mansions and summer houses of diverse modern architecture.

Then, return driving along the Brava Beach, to reach the Yacht Port and entering the city center called la Peninsula. We will head to Casa Pueblo, the architectural symbol of Punta Ballena. More than a building, Casapueblo is a true piece of art created by Carlos Paez Vilaro.

Located on the cliffs overlooking the sea, the Uruguayan artist set up his studio and museum, which also functions as a hotel and restaurant. For its unique charm, Casapueblo has stood as one of the most visited tourist spots on the coast of Maldonado, located just 12 km from Punta del Este.

Day 06 & 07: Punta del Este (B+D)After breakfast, free days at your leisure.

The first Europeans to set foot in what is now Punta del Este were the Spanish at the beginning of the 16th century. However, the colonization of the area actually began around Maldonado at the end of the 18th century due to Portuguese expansionism.

Which style of trip is right for me?Our three styles of travel – Basix, Original and Comfort – cover a whole gamut of travel experiences. To find out which one has 'You' written all over it, visit our trip styles page.

Are trips physically demanding?Want to lie in a hammock and not move until cocktail hour? We've got a trip for that. Want to power up the side of mountain at high altitude? We've also got a trip for that. To determine what type of trip suits you best, each of our trips comes with a Physical Rating to let you know how physically demanding it is… or isn't. Find out more about ratings.

Does SGV have family trips? SGV offers a wide range of Family Adventures around the globe. The minimum age (for Family trips) varies depending on destination, and SGV has set minimum ages to ensure that the included activities suit each age range. Additionally, you'll notice that some of the more adventurous destinations have a higher minimum age.

Who are SGV travellers?SGV adventures are for travellers with a yearning to get off the beaten track. Whether you're travelling solo, with a group of friends, or are aged 18 or 70, there is an SGV adventure to suit your interests and comfort level.

Each SGV adventure has a physical and cultural grading to help you decide if the trip is right for you. No special skills are required for most adventures, just a sense of adventure and a curiosity about the world.

How many people will be on my trip? Good things come in small packages, which is why we keep our group sizes down. This means we're small enough to remain flexible as we thread our way through communities without intimidating the locals. On most of our trips you'll be part of an intimate group of 12-16 people, though our group sizes are on average 10 people. Our Overland trips are in purpose-built vehicles that can carry up to 24 travellers.

If I am travelling solo, will I be charged a single supplement? As a solo traveller, you will usually have the choice of either paying a single supplement (available on the majority of trips), or sharing with someone of the same gender.

Are there age restrictions on your trips? For the majority of our trips the minimum age is 15. An adult must accompany all children under the age of 18. Our Overland Adventures have a minimum age of 18. Younger children can join us on our Family trips and Short Break Adventures, but check each trip for its minimum age, which is located on the trip's overview page on the website. Most of our trips don't have a maximum age limit, but a Self-Assessment Form is required for all passengers 70 years and over.

Who will be my group leader? While we can't tell you who your leader is prior to departure, we can tell you they will be awesome. Our leaders are experts in their regions, some because they've been travelling there for years, others because they're local to the region and can't wait to show you around. On longer journeys, or ones that travel through more than one country, you may change leaders part way through – but this just means double the awesomeness.

Can I just do part of the trip?Although you won't be reimbursed for any portion of the trip unused, you can opt to sign off the trip if you need to leave a day or so earlier. If you let us know before travel that you'll be arriving late or need to leave before the trips ends, we will notify our team on the ground to best accommodate your requirements.

Can I make any changes to the itinerary of my group trip, either before or during the trip? Please make sure you are happy with your group trip itinerary before booking because we are unable to change them for individual travellers. However, if you and a group of friends, colleagues or even your school would like your own personally designed itinerary, get in contact with our very talented Private Groups; they can tailor an itinerary just for you.

Can we book a triple room?Depending on the trip style you choose, our trips are organised on a twin, triple or multishare basis. As our bookings are made well in advance, individual room requests can't be guaranteed.

Can I book a single room? You can book pre and post accommodation on a single basis; however, throughout your Intrepid trip, rooming is organised on a twin-share basis. Some trips do have a single supplement available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Page 67: America - sanyog.travel · +91 890 100 4567 | sanyog.travel SANYOG GUPTA VOYAGES. America General Information of America South America is one of the 7 continents on the planet. The

67

I have special dietary requirements – will they be catered for?We will try our very hardest to accommodate all dietary requirements but in some out-of-the-way places it can be very difficult to guarantee. We will let you know if there are places on your itinerary where this is the case. Please let us know at the time of booking of any food requirements or allergies and we'll pass the information onto your leader. It is also a great idea to bring a card with your dietary requirements written in the local language for those times you are eating away from the group.

What will the food be like on my trip?Food is one of the most exciting parts of travel. There may be some familiar fare but often you'll be confronted with the new, interesting and downright weird of the culinary world but, we like to think of it as an adventure for all the senses. In addition to this, our flexible itineraries often allow you to eat with the group or branch out on your own - this means you can eat to suit any budget or desire.

What type of luggage do you recommend I take? On most SGV trips you will be required to carry your own luggage, sometimes up stairs and on and off transport. We therefore recommend you travel with a backpack. For a full list of what to take on your adventure see our Ultimate Packing List. Can I store excess luggage at the starting point hotel? Most starting point hotels can store your excess luggage for you; however, this is at your own risk. Often a nominal fee is charged for this service. Of course, this is only an advantage if your trip is circular (i.e. returning to the same starting point). Do I need to bring a sleeping bag?We only have a handful of itineraries where sleeping bags are required and these are generally trips that involve camping. When we use homestays, blankets are provided but some travellers feel more comfortable with their own sleeping bag or sleep sheet. This decision is a personal preference. Refer to your Trip Notes if you are unsure whether a sleeping bag is required. What clothes and footwear should I take on treks? On a more physical trip, hiking boots are definitely recommended. If the physical rating is under 3, hiking boots or sneakers/runners will be adequate.

What essential documents do I need to take? It's important that you always travel with your current passport, visas, travel insurance and SGV documentation.

What type of ground transportation is used?If it moves, there's a good chance you'll be riding on it. The type of transport used depends on your trip style. Find out more or see your Trip Notes for the specific type of transportation used on your journey.

When is the best time to go?There are many countries and variations of the seasons across South America, ranging from short, sub-zero days with tropical, 100% tropical humidity to warm beaches great for sunbathing.

Different seasons offer different benefits and options to the traveller and we're happy to help and advise. Contact us for more.

Speaking very generally, the Andes in Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador are best for trekking between April and October.

Patagonia's summer is the best time to visit (October to March), while the Galapagos Islands are pretty much a year-round destination.

The Amazon rainforest main 'dry' season is April to November, although can be visited year round.

How fit do I need to be?In order to get the most out of the tour you should be in good physical condition.

We offer a very wide range of trips from day trips with hardly any walking at all in 21-day climbing expeditions at very high altitude.

It is not easy for us to grade the fitness levels required for all our trips, since most people's fitness is a subjective matter.

However, we are happy to talk through what is expected of you on each trip we offer so you know what to expect. Having said that, most trips are easily within the reach of most people and the more extreme trips too, with some training.
