Step 1- Back Up the Computer

The first step of the the hardware installation process, is to back-up the computer. This is purely a precaution, just in case something goes wrong. If this was to happen, all files and data would be be backed up and unharmed. You can back the data up using a disc or a USB Stick.

You can do this by: Going to the Start Menu and then clicking on ‘Control Panel’. After, click on the ‘System and Security’ link and then clicking on ‘Back Up and Restore’. Then, follow the on-screen instructions as to what to do next.

STEP 2- CHECK THE PROPERTIES OF THE COMPUTER.

The next step is to check the current properties of the computer, including looking to see how much RAM is currently installed. This will be increased when the extra RAM has been added.

You can do this by: Going to the Start menu and go up to ‘Computer’, but don’t click on it. Right click on ‘Computer’ and then click on ‘Properties’.

Step 3-Prepare for the Installation.

The components need to be in the anti-static bag, to prevent them from being damaged from ESD.That is why it is also important to use an anti-static mat and an anti-static wrist-strap, because it will prevent you from getting injured by Electrostatic Discharge and it will prevent the internal components from getting damaged.

Step 4- Install the RAM.

Using the anti-static mat and wrist-strap, carefully install the RAM into the DCIe slots, using a gentle force to push them in. You will know when they are in properly when you hear a little ‘click’.

You MUST be wearing an anti-static wrist strap and using an anti-static mat, in order to protect the components and yourself from damage and injury. Static electricity has been built up by walking, so using the anti-static mat and anti-static wrist-strap, it equalises the charge.

Step 5- Install the Wireless NIC.

The next component that you install is the wireless NIC. Using both of the anti-static wrist strap and the anti-static mat, gently install the Wireless NIC in the slot provided.

When the computer is powered back on, if it is working, there should be a little, flashing green LED.

Step 6- Check that everything is working.

The final step is to ensure that everything has worked successfully. This includes checking whether the RAM has been installed properly and you can connect to the local network and access the internet.
