A LL ASCENT IS RELATIVE. Whatever is truly upward is in relation to our present status. It is the comparison between what or where we are and what we hope to attain. To mentally and spiritually ascend, we must have a goal—or an ideal—that transcends any past achievement. Ascent, therefore, be­gins within our own consciousness. We have never gone beyond the present, no matter what the external propulsion of circum­stances, unless we have realized some perfec­tion that was first conceived in our minds.

Ascent, therefore, is a realization of some perfection in ourselves.
