License AgreementEND-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR IK MULTIMEDIA PRODUCT

Please read this document carefully before breaking the seal on the media package. This agreement licenses the enclosed software to you and contains warranty and liability disclaimers.

By breaking the seal on the media envelope, you are confirming to have taken notice of terms and conditions of this agreement and you acknowledge your acceptance of the software as well as your acceptance of the terms of this agreement. If you do not wish to do so, do not break the seal. Instead, promptly return the entire package, including the unopened media package, to the dealer from whom you have obtained it, for a full refund.

1) DEFINITIONS

“EULA” means this end user license agreement

“IK Multimedia Product” means the software program included in the enclosed package, and all related updates supplied by IK Multimedia.

“IK Multimedia Product” means the software program and hardware (if any) included in the enclosed package, the related documentation, models, multi-media content (such as animation, sound and graphics) and all related updates supplied by IK Multimedia.

“Not for resale (NFR) Version” means a version of IK Multimedia Product, so identified, is intended for review and evaluation purposes, only.

2) LICENSE

The “IK Multimedia Product” is protected by copyright laws and international copyright treaties, as well as other intellectual property laws and treaties. The “IK Multimedia Product” is licensed, not sold. This EULA grants you the rights as specified here below. All other actions and means of usage are reserved to the written permission of the right holder IK Multimedia Production Srl:

Applications Software. The “IK Multimedia Product” may be used only by you. You may install and use the “IK Multimedia Product”, or any prior version thereof for the same operating system, on up to three (3) computers, provided that (a) each computer is owned by (or leased to) and under the exclusive control of the licensee; (b) the program(s) shall NOT be used simultaneously on more than one machine, and (c) any computer(s) with IK Multimedia software installed shall not be sold, rented, leased, loaned or otherwise be removed from the licensee’s possession without first removing (uninstalling) the licensed software, except as provided in Paragraph 4 (below) pertaining to “Software Transfer”.

Storage/Network use. You may also store or install a copy of the “IK Multimedia Product” on a storage device, such as a network server, used only to install or run the “IK Multimedia Product” on your other computers over an internal network; however, you must acquire and dedicate a distinct license for each user of the “IK Multimedia Product” from the storage device. Any given license for the “IK Multimedia Product” may not be shared or used concurrently or otherwise on different computers or by different developers in a given organization.

3) AUTHORIZATION CODE

The “IK Multimedia Product” only functions when you are in the possession of an authorization code. You will receive an authorization code upon complet-ing the authorization code request procedure. Once your authorization code is activated, you may use the product.

You agree to follow the authorization code request procedure and will provide true, accurate and complete information about yourself. If you provide any information that is untrue, inaccurate, not correct or incomplete, or IK Multimedia has reasonable grounds to suspect that such information is untrue, inaccurate, not correct or incomplete, IK Multimedia has the right to suspend or to revoke the license.

The termination of the license shall be without prejudice to any rights, whatsoever, of IK Multimedia.

4) DESCRIPTION OF OTHER RIGHTS AND LIMITATIONS

Limitations on Reverse Engineering, Decompilation, and Disassembly. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the “IK Multimedia Product”, except and only to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by applicable law notwithstanding this limitation of components. The “IK Multimedia Product” is licensed as a single product. Its component parts may not be separated for use on more than one computer.

Not for Resale Version. If the “IK Multimedia Product” is labeled “Not for Resale” or “NFR” or “Evaluation Copy”, then, notwithstanding other sections of this EULA, you may not sell, or otherwise transfer the “IK Multimedia Product”.

Rental. You may not rent, lease, or lend the “IK Multimedia Product” to any party.

Software Transfer. You may not transfer, license or sublicense your rights as Licensee of the software or any IK Multimedia product, as licensed to you under this agreement without prior written consent of the rights owner. The carrier on which the IK Multimedia product has been distributed may be transferred or otherwise made available to any third party only with the prior written consent of the rights owner and provided that (a) the original media

and license(s) accompany the carrier and (b) the party transferring the media does not retain a copy of the media.

5) UPGRADES

If the “IK Multimedia Product” is labeled or otherwise identified by IK Multimedia as an “upgrade”, you must be properly licensed to use a product identi-fied by IK Multimedia as being eligible for the upgrade in order to use the “IK Multimedia Product”.

An “IK Multimedia Product” labeled or otherwise identified by IK Multimedia as an upgrade replaces and/or supplements the product that formed the ba-sis for your eligibility for such upgrade. You may use the resulting upgraded product only in accordance with the terms of this EULA. If the “IK Multimedia Product” is an upgrade of a component of a package of software programs that you licensed as a single product, the “IK Multimedia Product” may be used and transferred only as part of that single product package and may not be separated for use on more than one computer.

6) DUAL-MEDIA SOFTWARE

You may receive the “IK Multimedia Product” in more than one medium. You may not loan, rent, lease, or otherwise transfer the other medium to another user, except as part of the permanent transfer (as provided above) of the “IK Multimedia Product”.

7) LIMITED WARRANTY

IK Multimedia warrants to the original purchaser of the computer software product, for a period of ninety (90) days following the date of original purchase, that under normal use, the software program and the user documentation are free from defects that will materially interfere with the operation of the program as described in the enclosed user documentation.

8) WARRANTY CLAIMS

To make a warranty claim under the above limited warranty, please return the product to the point of purchase, accompanied by proof of purchase, your name, your return address and a statement of the defect, or send the CD(s) to us at the below address within ninety (90) days of purchase. Include a copy of the dated purchase receipt, your name, your return address and a statement of the defect. IK Multimedia or its authorized dealer will use reasonable com-mercial efforts to repair or replace the product and return it to you (postage prepaid) or issue to you a credit equal to the purchase price, at its option.

9) LIMITATIONS ON WARRANTY

IK Multimedia warrants only that the program will perform as described in the user documentation. No other advertising, description or representation, whether made by a IK Multimedia dealer, distributor, agent or employee, shall be binding upon IK Multimedia or shall change the terms of this warranty.

EXCEPT AS STATED ABOVE, IK MULTIMEDIA MAKES NO OTHER WARRANTY, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, REGARDING THIS PRODUCT. IK MULTIMEDIA DIS-CLAIMS ANY WARRANTY THAT THE SOFTWARE IS FIT FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY SHALL BE LIMITED TO A NINETY (90) DAY DURATION OF THIS LIMITED EXPRESS WARRANTY AND IS OTHERWISE EXPRESSLY AND SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIMED. IK MULTIMEDIA SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR OTHER DAMAGES, EVEN IF IK MULTIMEDIA IS ADVISED OF OR AWARE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. THIS MEANS THAT IK MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTION SRL SHALL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE FOR THE LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, OR FOR DAMAGES OR COSTS AS A RESULT OF LOSS OF TIME, DATA OR USE OF THE SOFTWARE, OR FROM ANY OTHER CAUSE EXCEPT THE ACTUAL COST OF THE PRODUCT. IN NO EVENT SHALL IK MULTIMEDIA LIABILITY EXCEED THE PURCHASE PRICE OF THIS PRODUCT.

10) CHOICE OF LAW

You agree that any and all claims, suits or other disputes arising from your use of the software shall be determined in accordance with the laws of Italy, in the event IK Multimedia, is made a party thereto. You agree to submit to the jurisdiction of the court in Modena, Italy for all actions, whether in contract or in tort, arising from your use or purchase of the software.

11) GENERAL

This Agreement contains the complete agreement between the parties with respect to the subject matter hereof, and supersedes all prior or contempora-neous agreements or understandings, whether oral or written. All questions concerning this Agreement shall be directed to:

Chapter 1 AmpliTube X-GEAR Overview

1.1 Introduction

AmpliTube® X-GEAR™ is a software shell-host that allows you to open, in standalone and plug-in mode, any “Powered by AmpliTube” applica-tions (including AmpliTube® 2, AmpliTube® Fender®, AmpliTube® Jimi Hendrix™, Ampeg® SVX™, and AmpliTube® Metal) in a single interface.

AmpliTube X-GEAR allows you to mix and match stomps, amps, cabs, and racks from different “Powered by AmpliTube” applications, and control them through the StompIO or the StealthPedal.

Combining “Powered by AmpliTube” software/plug-ins + AmpliTube X-GEAR + StompIO or StealthPedal allows you to build your own custom and expandable software-based rig with the widest choice of superior modeled amps and effects. The complete system integration is straightforward and conceived with musicians in mind, to let you play through your computer as if it was a high-end hardware floor processor. StompIO and X-GEAR create the most powerful guitar and bass processor you've ever dreamed of.

1.2 DSM Technology

DSM™ is a new and exclusive IK Multimedia technology used in the emula-tion of analog circuitry. DSM was designed to increase the responsiveness, realism and playability of critical analog circuit models. Musicians have often felt that digital emulations of high-quality analog gear (such as guitar amplifiers) lacked some of the "playability" and "musicality" that made playing through the real thing so satisfying. DSM has been designed to improve this aspect.

DSM delivers special and unique results when applied to circuit emulations where non-linearity is the main characteristic of the processor, such as in distortion, fuzz, or overdrive stomp boxes, tube guitar preamplifiers and power amps, and analog compressors and limiters. The DSM working principle is based on a new approach never applied to DSP “analog modeling” until now.

Analog circuits, especially Tube and Class-A discrete ones, are not dynami-cally linear, but many companies model them as if they were. An analog circuit’s character is never constantly shaped but varies depending on lots of parameters, first and foremost the strength, frequency, and harmonic content of the incoming signal.

DSM takes the next step. It continuously adapts the “shape” of the analog circuit instead of applying a static snapshot. By using more complex math-ematical functions, a more articulated and musical response is possible, making DSM ideal for modeling tube preamps and tube power amps.

Traditional emulations are forced to trade off between, for example, those kind of distortions produced when a 2x 6L6 tube power amplifier is driven to its limit, and it's cleaner sound when driven normally.

DSM delivers a dynamic response that continuously morphs and “follows” the incoming signal; in other words, that is more responsive to the player's performance.

This gives DSM models an accuracy that cannot be found in any other mod-eling hardware or software today, one that respects all the nuances exactly like a real analog circuit, with a grade of realism and musicality never achieved before.

1.4 Plug-in Architecture

AmpliTube X-GEAR is set up as a traditional guitar rig. This ensures predict-able results and real world flexibility. While it is simple to comprehend and navigate, the user interface allows for complex guitar rigs and advanced signal routing.

The interface is divided into 5 modules:

This approach makes it easy to move between the different sections of the gui-

tar amp rig and provides easy access to module specific controls and features.

AmpliTube X-GEAR is divided into two simultaneous guitar rigs (figure 1.3).

This means there are two independent stomp effects, amps, cabinet, and rack effect signal chains. This lets you create a guitar rig with two independent amplifier setups, use the two rigs in an extensive single guitar amp setup, or a combination of the two using the flexible routing system provided (figure 1.4).

AmpliTube X-GEAR offers eight routing configurations presets, providing easy access to sophisticated effects and amp patching. For example;

1. all stomp effects and rack effects into one amp rig.2. two separate amp setups.3. all stomp effects and rack effects into one amp rig with both cabi-

nets.4. all stomp effects and rack effects into both amp rigs.5. two separate stomp effects setups into one amp with two cabinet

setups.6. two separate amp setups with separate stomps into two indepen-

dent rack effects.7. two separate stomp effects setups into two separate amp rigs into

all the rack effects.8. two separate stomp effects setups into one amp setup with all the

rack effects.

One of the easiest ways to get started with AmpliTube X-GEAR is to audi-tion the included collection of presets. These presets have been skillfully programmed by the AmpliTube X-GEAR designers to accurately reproduce each particular tone.

1.5 Using the Interface

AmpliTube X-GEAR interface has four basic sections:

The SpeedTrainer (figure 1.6) as well as the bottom interface area that displays the SpeedTrainer import process status message (e.g., Ready), the Input gain value, and the CPU load display (figure 1.7), are only available when AmpliTube X-GEAR Standalone is used.

To control AmpliTube X-GEAR (standalone or plug-ins version) with the StompIO or SteathPedal, just select which controller you are using and press the ON switch. (figure 1.8).

The control ON button enables/disables the StompIO or StealthPedal control for the selected AmpliTube X-GEAR instance.

• If you have only one instance, this button will turn control ON/OFF.• If you have more instances, this button will allow you to choose

which AmpliTube X-GEAR instance to control.• As soon as AmpliTube X-GEAR is opened, it will automatically con-

nect to StompIO (if it is connected and powered on). If StompIO it's not found AmpliTube X-GEAR will automatically connect to StealthPedal. If none of the controllers is found AmpliTube X-GEAR will startup with disabled external control.• When connecting StompIO or StealthPedal when AmpliTube X-GEAR

is already open, you will need to press the control ON button to activate the control. If StompIO is connected, in this case Patch 000A (the first one that is loaded at StompIO power up) will be temporarily modified to reflect current AmpliTube X-GEAR status.• Note that, as explained on StompIO and StealthPedal User Manuals,

you can use the external controllers to control AmpliTube X-GEAR plug-ins on DAW sessions that are using other audio hardware, like Pro Tools systems.• The entire StompIO patches configuration and the way StompIO con-

trols your sound and your performances is done from the StompIO control surface displays, buttons and knobs. Please refer to StompIO User Manual for instructions.• To setup StealthPedal controls and the way they work with your

AmpliTube X-GEAR presets and parameters press SETUP (figure 1.8)

IMPORTANT: StompIO and StealthPedal external controllers can control only one instance of AmpliTube X-GEAR at a time. This means that when you turn Control ON on an instance, any other instance that was previosuly controlled by the external unit will be set to Control OFF.

This is also valid for the StealthPedal MIDI Control application. Once Control is set ON on it, it wil automatically swich OFF on AmpliTube X-GEAR. Check StealthPedal MIDI Control User Manual for detailed information.

Below a brief description of the AmpliTube X-GEAR interface sections:

PRESET MANAGER: loads and saves AmpliTube X-GEAR presets (figure 1.9).

MODULE SELECTOR: is the main navigation menu for AmpliTube X-GEAR (figure 1.10). It displays both guitar rigs, selects the modules, bypasses and mutes modules, and allows you to control the signal path of the guitar rigs.

MODULE INTERFACE: this is the main editing interface (figure 1.11). This is where most of the editing takes place. This interface shows the different modules and all their related controls.

INPUT/OUTPUT INTERFACE: adjusts input and output gain, sets the noise gate, adjusts the pan, volume, phase and mix knob values for the current AmpliTube X-GEAR preset, and displays the preferences and system infor-mation (figure 1.12).

As mentioned above, AmpliTube X-GEAR allows you to mix and match stomps, amps, cabs, and racks from different “Powered by AmpliTube” appli-cations, and fully control them through StompIO.

Consequently, the selectable options/models available through the pop-up menus will vary, according to the “Powered by AmpliTube” applications installed on your computer..

In this section of the manual we refer as “models” to each “Powered by AmpliTube” application’s STOMP, AMP (Pre, EQ, and Amp models), CAB (Speaker and Mic models), and RACK models. To have an overview of the models included in each application, please check their respective User Manual.

When no additional “Powered by AmpliTube” products are installed, AmpliTube X-GEAR offers the following basic set of stomps, amps, and cabs, (no Rack models):

2.1 AmpliTube X-GEAR and StompIO Registration/Authorization

AmpliTube X-GEAR can be registered by using one of these three serial numbers:

1. AXG10-XXXXXXXX-XXXXX

This serial number enables all AmpliTube X-GEAR functionalities except the StompIO and StealthPedal controllers related ones. If you bought ONLY AmpliTube X-GEAR (not the StompIO or StealthPedal), this is the serial number that you have received and the one that you need to use to Register and Authorize AmpliTube X-GEAR.

2. STP10-XXXXXXXX-XXXXX3. STL10-XXXXXXXX-XXXXX

These serial numbers enable all AmpliTube X-GEAR functional-ities included the StompIO and StealthPedal ones. If you bought StompIO (AmpliTube X-GEAR is included in the software package), STP10-XXXXXXXX-XXXXX is the serial number that you have received and the one that you need to use to Register and Authorize AmpliTube X-GEAR. If you bought StealthPedal (AmpliTube X-GEAR is included in the software package), STL10-XXXXXXXX-XXXXX is the serial number that you have received and the one that you need to use to Register and Authorize AmpliTube X-GEAR.

If you connect StompIO to your system where AmpliTube X-GEAR is already authorized with “AXG10-XXXXXXXX-XXXXX” serial number you will see this message (figure 2.1):

If you connect StealthPedal to your system where AmpliTube X-GEAR is already authorized with “AXG10-XXXXXXXX-XXXXX” serial number you will see this message (figure 2.2):

By pressing OK, the Product Authorization Wizard will open. Please follow its instructions so you are able to Register / Authorize AmpliTube X-GEAR using the StompIO or StealthPedal serial number (STP10-XXXXXXXX-XXXXX or STL10-XXXXXXXX-XXXXX).

By pressing Cancel, you will not proceed with the new registration and the original AmpliTube X-GEAR authorization will be restored as soon as StompIO or StealthPedal will be disconnected. If you do not disconnect StompIO or StealthPedal, you will be able to use it but AmpliTube X-GEAR will emit a random noise from time to time.

Note: this situation will only occur if you first bought, installed, registered, and authorized AmpliTube X-GEAR, and you added StompIO or StealthPedal later to your setup.

2.2 Standalone Mode

AmpliTube X-GEAR Standalone version can be used to perform live or in a recording studio situation, using your computer as a next generation model-ing effect processor. It allows you to run the program without the need of a host sequencer application.

When playing live it is strongly advisable to use the Standalone version of AmpliTube X-GEAR with the StompIO or StealthPedal, because the per-formance and AmpliTube X-GEAR integration has been optimized on the Standalone version.

Using AmpliTube X-GEAR with a 3rd party DAW application when play-ing live with StompIO or StealthPedal is possible, but some features spe-cifically designed around StompIO, StealthPedal and the AmpliTube X-GEAR Standalone version will not be available.

2.2.1 Launch AmpliTube X-GEAR Standalone

Once your hardware is properly set-up you can launch AmpliTube X-GEAR.To launch AmpliTube X-GEAR Standalone go to:

2.2.2 Windows Audio Configuration

AmpliTube X-GEAR using StompIO or StealthPedal as audio interface

If the StompIO or StealthPedal drivers are already installed and StompIO or StealthPedal is already connected and turned ON, your AmpliTube X-GEAR audio configuration will already be set for StompIO or StealthPedal without the need to setup anything on the Audio Setup window in AmpliTube X-GEAR (figure 2.3).

However, if you need to do any modification, go to:Settings > Audio MIDI Setup.

• To change the Sample rate, just select a value from the drop down menu. • To change the Buffer size, click on Panel and select a value from the

Size drop down menu.

Notes about Sample Rate and Buffer size:

The AmpliTube X-GEAR default audio settings are optimized for low latency and good performance. The default audio settings for the StompIO and StealthPedal audio interfaces on Windows are:

• Sample rate: 48 kHz • Buffer size: 144 samples

The Buffer size value is related to the latency you will hear during per-formance. A buffer size of 144 samples should be fine on most modern

computers, delivering quite a fast response.

• If you experience audio pops or clicks while playing, try increasing this value to the next step.• If your computer is fast and the 144 value is working perfectly, you

could try setting this value to 128 or 96 for an even faster response. However, this is not advisable on most computers, and should not be used as a standard setting on live shows unless it has been deeply tested to deliver a clean sound free from pops and clicks.

AmpliTube X-GEAR using any audio interface other than StompIO or StealthPedal

Click on Settings > Audio MIDI Setup.

Select ASIO or DirectX from the top menu. ASIO is the default option because it gives the best performance.

In Inputs, your audio interface driver will be automatically selected. If not, manually choose your audio interface driver.

In Channel 1 (below the Inputs menu), select the audio interface input into which your guitar is plugged. For example, if the guitar is plugged into the first audio interface input, you should select Channel 1. However, if the guitar is plugged into the second audio interface input, you should select Channel 2, and so on.

NOTE: sometimes, Channel 1 is identified with L (Left channel) and Channel 2 with R (Right channel).

In Outputs, select your audio interface output driver. The Input and Output driver should be the same.

Below the Outputs menu, select your desired output channels. For example, (Channel 1, Output 1), (Channel 2, Output 2).

Sample Rate: choose your desired sample rate (AmpliTube X-GEAR will sup-port sample frequencies up to 96 kHz).

Buffer Size: to change the buffer size of an ASIO device, click the PANEL but-ton located on the right of the buffer size selector, and it will give you access to the Control Panel of the audio interface you are using.

Adjusting the buffer settings will change the audio signal latency. In general smaller buffer sizes deliver a faster response, but extremely small values can overload your computer, resulting in intermittent audio clicks and unre-liable system performance. Usually, values between 128 and 256 give the best performance / reliability compromise.

2.2.3 Macintosh Audio Configuration

If StompIO or StealthPedal is already connected and turned ON, your AmpliTube X-GEAR audio configuration will already be set for StompIO or StealthPedal without the need to setup anything on the Audio Setup window on AmpliTube X-GEAR (figure 2.4).

However if you want to check the audio options or setup for another Audio Interface click Settings > Audio Setup to open the Audio settings window.

Notes about Sample Rate and Buffer size:

The AmpliTube X-GEAR default audio settings are optimized for low latency and good performance. The default audio settings for the StompIO and StealthPedal audio interfaces on Mac OS X are:

• Sample rate: 48 kHz • Buffer size: 128 samples

The Buffer size value is related to the latency you will hear during performance. A buffer size of 128 samples should be fine on most modern computers and delivers quite a fast response.

• If you experience audio pops or clicks while playing, try increasing this value to the next step.• If your computer is fast and the 128 value is working perfectly, you

could try setting this value to 64. However, only a fast Mac with a perfectly optimized configuration will deliver a stable performance

with such a small buffer size, so this value is not advisable during a live show unless the reliability and performance has been deeply previously tested for a clean sound free from pops and clicks.

AmpliTube X-GEAR using any audio interface other than StompIO or StealthPedal

Select the audio interfaces your’re going to use on the Input Audio Interface and Output Audio Interfaces menus.

Your Channel selection has to match the audio interface channel into which your guitar is plugged. For example, if the guitar is plugged into the first audio interface input, you should select Channel 1, if the guitar is plugged into the second audio interface input, you should select Channel 2, and so on.

The Output audio Interface will typically be the same as the Input audio Interface. Please select the output for AmpliTube X-GEAR under left and right channel. Next, select a low Buffer Size value, and a Sampling Frequency (remember that this will be limited by your audio interface/soundcard capabilities).

Sample Rate: choose your desired sample rate. (AmpliTube X-GEAR will sup-port sample frequencies up to 96 kHz).

Buffer Size: adjusting the buffer settings will change the audio signal latency. In fact, the amount of latency depends on several factors such as computer speed and sound card performance. Decreasing the buffer size value will reduce the amount of signal delay. So, the idea is to get the latency as low as possible without getting any audio artifacts. As a starting point, a 256 buffer size value should work fine. However, considering that each setup reacts in a different way, please experiment with your settings until you get the best result.

2.2.4 SpeedTrainer

SpeedTrainer™ is useful to play along with songs, to practice your solos or rhythm, or just to enjoy making music with AmpliTube X-GEAR! It can also be a great learning tool (figure 2.5).

The SpeedTrainer Controls (figure 2.6) include Open Audio button (figure 2.7) to open an audio file, file Play and Pause buttons, and A/B buttons for setting a loop point within the audio file.

Audio files can be simply dragged from the system to the SpeedTrainer wave-form display. NOTE: you can drag only one audio file at a time.

When you open or drag an audio file into SpeedTrainer you will see its wave-form progressively displayed. SpeedTrainer will be in Loading status, until the entire file is displayed in the Waveform display.

When the SpeedTrainer displays the Ready status you are ready to play your file.

A/B repeat (figure 2.8).

• By pressing A during file playback, the Loop Start Marker is memo-rized and a sign is placed on the timeline. The A button will be high-lighted (figure 2.9).

• By pressing B during file playback the Loop End Marker is memorized and a sign is placed on the timeline. In this case, the B button will be highlighted (figure 2.10).

• By pressing A and then B just after having opened an audio file, A and B markers will be automatically placed at the beginning and at the end of the opened file, to loop the entire file (figure 2.11).

• As soon as the B point is placed, the playback will immediately start from A, playing up to B and then returning to A until the Pause or Play button is pressed (figure 2.12).

• Pressing Clear erases the A/B points and disables the loop playback (figure 2.13).

2.2.5 Loop Trimming

After you set the A (Loop Start Marker) and B (Loop End Marker), you are able to make small adjustments by holding the mouse on top of the marker sign, and then dragging them horizontally (figure 2.14).

If you click on or drag the A or B markers, their position will be shown in the Time Display (figure 2.15), located below the filename (figure 2.16).

2.2.6 Waveform Display

The audio file peak waveform is displayed as an average of the L & R chan-nels. This means that you will see it as only one waveform, even if your audio file is stereo (figure 2.17).

Additionally, there are Horizontal Zoom In and Out buttons. The Zoom In (+) and Zoom Out (-) are located below the waveform display, on the left side (figure 2.18). The Zoom Level range is from x1 to x32 and is shown on the Selected Parameter Display (figure 2.19).

The Horizontal Scroll Bar will allow you to move the file into the display. While dragging the Horizontal Scroll Bar (to the right or left), the waveform will follow your movements, without having to release the mouse click to update the waveform visualization (figure 2.20).

2.2.7 Tempo and Pitch Adjustment

Through the AmpliTube X-GEAR SpeedTrainer, you are able to indepen-dently change the Tempo and Pitch of your audio file.

While you are playing your audio file, move the Tempo knob from 50% to 150% (figure 2.21). Increasing the % value will speed up the tempo and vice versa. The Tempo default position is 100%, at center.

For example, you can extract the audio from your guitar method CD, open a file, and change the tempo of a particular exercise. In this way, you can measure your progress, speeding up the track gradually, as your technical skills increase.

The Pitch adjustable range goes from –12 semitones (one octave down) to +12 semitones (one octave up), and its Default position is 0, at center (figure 2.22).

In this way, you are able to practice your favorite artist’s songs in several keys, increasing your transposition skills and improving you musicianship capabilities, or quickly change between songs without having to retune your guitar to each new track.

NOTE: Pitch and Tempo changes will not alter your stored A/B loop points.

2.2.8 Values Indication

All the SpeedTrainer Controls as well as the Metronome Volume value are shown on the Selected Parameter display located under the peak meter. For instance, if you move the SpeedTrainer Volume knob (figure 2.23), its value will be reflected in this display (figure 2.24).

2.2.9 Peak Meter

The Peak Meter shows the audio file playback instantaneous peak level (figure 2.25).

2.2.10 Metronome

You can turn on the Metronome by clicking on the On button, and then modify its Tempo (via its Tempo knob) and its volume (through its Volume knob), (figure 2.26).

Tempo values are measured in beats per minute (BPM), and its range goes from 30 to 220 BPM. Tempo values are shown in the Metronome display. However, the volume values are expressed in % (from 0 to 100%) in the Selected Parameter display.

NOTE: the Metronome Tempo is linked to the Tap button, but there is NO relationship between the Metronome Tempo and the SpeedTrainer Tempo.

In AmpliTube X-GEAR Standalone version, you are able to change the BPM Tempo in 4 different ways:

- In Settings/Preferences (figure 2.27):

1. Typing the BPM value in the Tempo box and then clicking OK.2. Clicking the Tap button (at least 5 times) with a steady pulse and then clicking OK. The recognized BPM value will be displayed in the Tempo field.

- In the main AmpliTube X-GEAR window (you have to close the previ-ously opened Preferences window):

3. On your computer keyboard press the Caps lock key and tap the UPPERCASE T key at least 5 times.4. Hold the Shift key and tap the UPPERCASE T key at least 5 times.

2.2.11 Status Bar

As previously mentioned in Chapter 1, the Status Bar (bottom area) of the AmpliTube X-GEAR interface contains the SpeedTrainer import process status message (e.g., Ready), the Input gain value, and the CPU load display.

Import process status messageIn this portion of the bottom area, it will be displayed the SpeedTrainer import process status message, e.g. Ready (figure 2.28).

Input gainThis parameter is global and is not stored to each AmpliTube X-GEAR preset, so that you can switch instrument while playing live without the need to retouch all input sensitivity for all presets. This value can also be remotely set from StompIO while playing live. Check the StompIO User Manual for detailed information.

Setting Input gain when using StompIO• The Input gain value will be updated while changing its value

through the StompIO panel.• If the StompIO is connected, the Input gain value can ONLY be

changed through the StompIO.• If the StompIO is NOT connected, the Input gain value can be changed

from the AmpliTube X-GEAR interface (just click and drag its value, from 0 to 24dB) (figure 2.29).

As reference, please check these settings for most popular instruments:

2.2.12 Auto Start-Up

When playing live with StompIO it could be useful having the Computer to automatically launch AmpliTube X-GEAR at power up. This will allow you to use StompIO without using a computer screen on stage, or a mouse/key-board setup.

Windows: copy the AmpliTube X-GEAR icon to the Start-Up group in the Start menu.

Mac OS X: add AmpliTube X-GEAR to the current User “Log-In” items list.

This will make AmpliTube X-GEAR to automatically launch and connect to StompIO at computer power up.

2.3 Plug-in Mode

2.3.1 Starting AmpliTube X-GEAR in your host application

2.3.1.1 Pro Tools

Launch Pro Tools® and create your new session. If playing/recording gui-tar, create a mono audio track. Go to Insert/Plug in/Harmonic and select “AmpliTube X-GEAR” Mono or Mono/Stereo. The AmpliTube X-GEAR inter-face will then open. If you are using Pro Tools LE, when the track is placed in the record monitor, you will be able to hear the effect while recording.

TIP: if you are using Pro Tools TDM and recording a guitar track while listen-ing to AmpliTube X-GEAR, you should insert a TDM plug-in like Digidesign’s “TRIM” before AmpliTube X-GEAR RTAS. This will let you hear AmpliTube X-GEAR RTAS while recording on a TDM system. Otherwise Pro Tools will bypass the RTAS plug-in (AmpliTube X-GEAR in this case) as soon as the track is RECORD enabled.

2.3.1.2 Digital Performer

Launch Digital Performer™ (4.1 or newer) and create your new session. Go to the Mixer View. On your audio track, select your Audio interface Input and Outputs, and add “AmpliTube X-GEAR” as an insert. The AmpliTube X-GEAR edit window will automatically open. You will be able to hear the plug-in on the audio you’re recording or playing back.

TIP: in order to take advantage of the stereo capabilities of AmpliTube X-GEAR, such as cabinet panning and stereo rack FX, open the plug-in as Mono to Stereo when inserted on mono tracks, or open it on stereo tracks.

2.3.1.3 Logic

Launch Logic®. Insert “AmpliTube X-GEAR” on the desired track from the mixer window. The AmpliTube X-GEAR edit window will automatically open.

TIP: in order to take advantage of the stereo capabilities of AmpliTube X-GEAR, such as cabinet panning & stereo rack FX, open the plug-in as Mono -> Stereo when inserted on mono tracks, or open it on stereo tracks.

2.3.1.4 Cubase

Launch Cubase®. Click on the audio or instrument track you wish to add AmpliTube X-GEAR to. In the inspector window on the left, click on the dark blue bar that says “Inserts” or click on the “e” button beside the track name at the top of the inspector.

Once the inserts are visible (under the insert menu on the Inspector, or on the left side of the audio channel editor window) click on empty insert. Select “AmpliTube X-GEAR.” At this point, if you play back audio, you should be able to route sound through your AmpliTube X-GEAR plug-in.

TIP: in order to take advantage of the stereo capabilities of AmpliTube X-GEAR, such as cabinet panning & stereo rack FX, insert it on a stereo track or stereo groups tracks.

2.3.1.5 Nuendo

Launch Nuendo®, open a new project, then go to Project/Add track/Audio, select your audio track configuration (mono/stereo) and click OK. Click on “Inserts” to expand the menu, and then click on the dark blue area below “i1” to see the available plug-in list. Select AmpliTube X-GEAR so it opens. To open/close its interface click on the “e” button.

TIP: in order to take advantage of the stereo capabilities of AmpliTube X-GEAR, such as cabinet panning and stereo rack FX, insert it on a stereo track or stereo groups tracks.

2.3.1.6 Live

Launch Live® and click on one of the audio or virtual instrument tracks in the “Mixer Drop Area.” Notice in the “Track View” (bottom window), the text “Drop Audio Effects” appears.

Now, in the “Browser Window” (window on the left hand side of the screen), click the Plug-in Browser button (it looks like an electric plug). Browse to “AmpliTube X-GEAR” and click/drag it into the “Track View.” Once AmpliTube X-GEAR loads, it will appear as a “Device” with an XY controller on it.

To open/close the AmpliTube X-GEAR interface click the “edit plug-in panel” (small wrench) button at the top of the Device window.

2.3.1.7 GarageBand

Launch GarageBand®, and go to Track/New Track. Set up this window in the following way: click on Real Instrument, Monitor On, Expand the Details menu, and Uncheck the Echo and Reverb effect. Select “AmpliTube X-GEAR” from the 3rd or 4th effects drop down menu, check its left box, and click the Create button.

Play your guitar - you should now be able to monitor it. To open the AmpliTube X-GEAR interface, double click the track (the track info win-dow will pop up) and click on the pencil icon located to the right, and the AmpliTube X-GEAR interface will open.

2.3.1.8 SonarLaunch Sonar® and create your new session. Open the Console (pressing ALT+3) and locate the audio track to which you wish to add AmpliTube X-GEAR. Right click into the FX Insert Area (the dark square located in the Audio track’s upper area) and choose “AmpliTube X-GEAR” from the Audio FX sub-menu. The AmpliTube X-GEAR interface will then appear.

2.3.1.9 Acid

Launch Acid™, and go to Insert\Audio track. Then go to Insert again and select Assignable FX, double click the VST folder, select “AmpliTube X-GEAR” and then click on Add/Ok. The AmpliTube X-GEAR interface will open.

2.3.1.10 Tracktion

Launch Tracktion®, open a project and drag the “new filter” from the top right area to the selected audio track. When the plug-ins list appears, select “AmpliTube X-GEAR” so its interface will open. To monitor your guitar, click “R” from your selected track input device (left area).

2.3.1.11 RiffWorks Standard

Launch Riffworks Standard®, and click on the Hardware button (located at the bottom of the interface) to turn it off. Then click on the little AMP down arrow and select “AmpliTube X-GEAR” from the “other” category.

2.4 Hands-On Examples

Now that you’ve learned the basic concepts about AmpliTube X-GEAR stand-alone mode as well as how to insert it as a plug-in in your host application, let’s start with the following hands-on example: click on the Presets Selector and choose one preset.

2.4.1 Selecting Amps

Now, let’s change the amp and its components. Click on the AMP module button located below the signal chain display (figure 2.31).

2.4.2 Choosing the Cabinet

To explore the speaker cabinet options, click on the CAB module button (figure 2.35), turn off the Match switch, and navigate through the speaker models using the Up/Down arrow keys. Select Ampeg SVX / SVT – 810E, (figure 2.36), for example.

After that, experiment with different microphone settings. Select AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix / Ribbon 160 from the Mic Model menu (figure 2.37) and modify its position and/or its distance using the On/Off Axis and Near/Far switches. To adjust the amount of room ambience that is mixed with the microphone signal, move the Ambience slider to the desired position.

To add an effect at the end of the chain, click on the RACK module button from the Module Selector (figure 2.40).

There are 4 rack units available per rig, this means that if you are using a dual-rig configuration you can set up to 8 effects simultaneously.

To load a rack effect, click the display to the left side of the rack (figure 2.41) and select from the drop down menu, or click the Up/Down arrows to scroll through the effects (figure 2.42), e.g., AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix / Rotary Speaker.

Chapter 3 Input/Output Interface

3.1 I/O Interface

The Input/Output interface provides more than just volume controls. It includes a noise gate, a selected parameter display, an integrated tuner display, independent volume and pan, phase and mix knobs, and plug-in parameters and version information (figure 3.1).

3.2 Connecting Your Guitar and Adjusting Your Levels

Using AmpliTube X-GEAR and StompIO

• Plug your guitar/bass into StompIO In (Rear panel)• Read StompIO manual about how to set the Input level. This is a

Global setup, not stored to the Patches, and you only need to change it while switching instruments. • The Input gain value displayed on AmpliTube X-GEAR interface (bot-

tom area), can ONLY be changed/updated through StompIO (when it is connected). • To change the Preset Input level, use the AmpliTube X-GEAR Input

level knob, located on the I/O Interface.

• Do NOT use Regular Line inputs. NEITHER -10dB nor +4dB inputs can be used for your guitar.• There are two options to optimally set up your Global Input level:

1. Decrease the AmpliTube X-GEAR Input Gain value to 0 dB (just click and drag its value) and increase the audio interface gain knob up to the point where the clipping LED starts blinking (usually, when you play extremely hard, e.g., doing strong down strokes). After, decrease the audio interface gain level a little bit so you can avoid clipping.

2. Keep the AmpliTube X-GEAR Input Gain value at +6 dB (default) and modify the audio interface gain knob accordingly, to avoid clipping.

• To change the Preset Input level, use the AmpliTube X-GEAR Input level knob, located on the I/O Interface.

To summarize:

If you are using AmpliTube X-GEAR and StompIO, the Global Input Level is determined by the StompIO related setting.

If you are using AmpliTube X-GEAR and StealthPedal, the Global Input Level is determined by the StealthPedal Input Gain Boost setting and by the AmpliTube X-GEAR Input Gain value.

If you are using AmpliTube X-GEAR with another audio interface, the Global Input Level is determined by the audio interface gain plus the AmpliTube X-GEAR Input Gain value.

The Preset Input Level is determined by the AmpliTube X-GEAR Input level knob (located on the I/O Interface), independently of the audio interface in use.

3.3 Selected Module Pan and Volume

For added flexibility, you are able to control the volume for each selected module (figure 3.2). The Volume control fine tunes the output level on any module. The Pan control adjusts the pan position on stereo modules. However, only the CAB and RACK modules can be panned. Usually, these controls should be kept at their default center position.

3.4 Phase

The Phase control (figure 3.3) is normally set at zero (center), considering that could be a positive or negative value.

• To delay the Direct signal, adjust the Phase Control to negative values.• To delay the Cabinet signal, adjust the Phase Control to positive values.

As an example, you can use the Phase control with dual Cabinets setups to create

stereo sounds by delaying one Cabinet (adjust the Phase Control to positive values) by a few milliseconds in respect of the other one. In addition, you can use this control to experiment with delay between the Direct and Cabinet sounds on bass sounds.

NOTE: this control has to be used in conjunction with Mix.

3.5 Mix

The Mix control (figure 3.4) is normally set at zero as it mixes the signal captured by the Cab model microphone with the direct signal taken from the Stomps out-put. This is mainly useful with bass amps to mix the direct signal with the cabinet one, but could be interesting also on certain kind of guitar sounds as well.

NOTE: this control has to be used in conjunction with Phase.

3.6 Using Noise Gate

Through the Noise Gate, you are able to minimize the amount of unneces-sary noise, especially if you are using high gain (figure 3.5).

THRESH. (Threshold): sets the threshold level for the signal. When the signal drops below the set threshold level, the noise gate silences the signal. Usually, keep the threshold level at the lowest possible value (fully counterclockwise) and set it higher only when you need to activate the gate.

REL. (Release): sets the gate release time. Higher values will result in a gate that takes a longer amount of time to close again, when the input signal drops below the threshold.

3.7 Tune

Tune provides a small representation of the TUNER module, making it easy to tune up without having to change the module you are working on.

It displays the detected note name, and also provides you with a graphical representation of the fine tuning (figure 3.6).

When the OK arrow light illuminates, the tuning is within +/- 4 cents.

3.8 Selected Parameter Display

Every time that you adjust a STOMP, AMP, CAB (Ambience only) or RACK parameter, the actual value will be displayed (including the unit measure-ment when it is necessary) in the Selected Parameter Display.

tion will appear on the right of the value (figure 3.7).

Also, if you tweak any Input/Output Interface knob such as Input, Thresh, Rel, Pan, Level, and Master, their values will be shown in the Selected Parameter Display.

3.9 Preferences

Through the Preferences menu (figure 3.8), you are able to enable/disable the following options (figure 3.9):

Stomps, Pre, and Amp Oversampling

Enabling oversampling improves the sound quality significantly when the signal is heavily distorted. However, it will increase your CPU load. If you use high gain sounds and the distortion obtained by using a preamplifier such as the “British Lead S100,” we suggest enabling the Pre Oversampling option.

Oversampling is enabled by default on preamplifiers, and disabled on stomps and power amplifiers.

TIP: you can disable Oversampling when working on a session in real- time and activate it just before bouncing the final mix.

High Resolution

Enabling “High Resolution” will improve the dynamic and musical response of the power amplifiers, but the CPU usage will be somewhat higher. Please disable High Resolution only if your computer does not have sufficient CPU power for the current session.

High Resolution is enabled by default.

Cabinet Global Bypass

This option allows you to enable/disable the AmpliTube X-GEAR speaker emulation. For example, when you play live using StompIO with a regular guitar cabinet you may want to disable all speaker emulations inside the AmpliTube-XGEAR rig. Disabling Cabinet Global Bypass will force all Cab modules into Bypass, despite what is written in the Preset or Patch.

This option is also selectable from the StompIO panel.

Tempo Source

This option allows you to select between Host/Global and Preset Tempo source.

Host/Global: the BPM Sync Tempo source is the Host Application Tempo, (the tempo of the application into which AmpliTube X-GEAR is inserted as a plug-in).

The Host/Global BPM value is displayed on the right side of the Preset selector in “Gray” color (figure 3.10).

When you use AmpliTube-XGEAR as standalone with the StompIO, the default Global tempo is 120 BPM. You will find this tempo when turning on the StompIO in Global Tempo mode.

The LED on the StompIO Panel on top of the TAP foot-switch will blink at the current Tempo rate.

Preset: the BPM Sync Tempo source is the value saved with the Preset. The StompIO Tempo will be updated when loading the related Patch.

The Preset BPM value is displayed on the right side of the Preset selec-tor in “Red” color (figure 3.11).

To save a BPM value to a particular Preset, click Preferences > enable the Preset option > and click Save. Put the mouse pointer below the BPM value, delete the current value, insert a new one, and click Save.

The LED on the StompIO Panel on top of the TAP foot-switch will blink at the current Tempo rate.

In both cases, when the StompIO is connected, the Tempo can be overwritten by TAPPING on the StompIO TAP footswitch.

3.10 Information (“I”)

To open the Info page, click on the “I” button (figure 3.12 ). You will find the product name, its version number, and the related copyright notes (figure 3.13).

3.11 Lock

If you are running the software in demo mode, and you click on the Lock button (figure 3.14), the Product Authorization Wizard will appear. However, if you already registered and authorized your product, clicking on the Lock button will show you the product Serial Number, Digital ID, and Authorization Code (figure 3.15).

Chapter 4 Module Selector

The Module Selector performs multiple functions (figure 4.1): first, it allows you to select the different modules in AmpliTube X-GEAR; second, it displays the dual signal paths, third; it allows you to select eight different signal paths.

4.1 Dual Signal Paths

AmpliTube X-GEAR provides two discrete signal paths; each one contain-ing STOMP box, AMP, CAB, and RACK modules. Through the eight available presets, these two signal paths can be configured in multiple variations allowing a tremendous amount of flexibility. This is a very important fea-ture because it allows you to route your guitar signal to multiple amplifiers or cabinets; create two separate six stomp pedal setups or create one big twelve pedal setup.

The Preset buttons located to the left of the Module Selector allow you to change the signal path of the guitar rig (figure 4.2).

Clicking on the individual buttons (from 1 to 8) or using the Up/Down arrows will allow you to select different signal paths.

The available routings are:

1. all stomp effects and rack effects into one amp rig.2. two separate amp setups.3. all stomp effects and rack effects into one amp rig with both cabi-

nets.4. all stomp effects and rack effects into both amp rigs.5. two separate stomp effects setups into one amp with two cabinet

setups.6. two separate amp setups with separate stomps into two indepen-

dent rack effects.7. two separate stomp effects setups into two separate amp rigs into

4.2 Selecting Modules

Once the signal path for the guitar rig is set up, you can easily navigate the different AmpliTube X-GEAR modules via the Module Selector. To select a particular module, just click on it (figure 4.3).

This option allows you to easy access to any module on either of the dual signal path. Clicking on the module buttons below (TUNER, STOMP, AMP, CAB, and RACK) selects the first module of the two available in the chain.

FOLDER: opens the Presets Folder for immediate manual intervention on location, grouping, naming, and backup of the preset files via stan-dard OS window (figure 5.3).

SAVE: saves the current setup as a preset. In fact, it will save the param-eters for all the modules in AmpliTube X-GEAR (figure 5.4).

DELETE: deletes the currently selected preset. Remember that this com-mand cannot be undone, so be careful (figure 5.6).

5.3 Saving a Preset

Click the SAVE button (figure 5.7). If you just launched the program, a pop up window will appear (figure 5.8).

At the top of this window, you can specify a folder where you would like to save the preset or create a new folder to save in. In the middle field on this pop up window, type the name of the preset. The bottom field makes AmpliTube X-GEAR auto overwrite when you click SAVE. This will allow you to save quicker, but be careful, as you could unintentionally overwrite presets that you wanted to keep.

Click the SAVE button in the pop up window. Your preset is now saved and it will immediately appear in the Preset Selector (figure 5.9).

Now, if you click the SAVE button again, the “Are you sure you want to replace (name of the previously saved file will appear here)?” message will appear (figure 5.10). Click YES to replace the old preset with your new changes, or click NO to preserve the original.

If you want to keep several versions of a particular preset, click SAVE AS and rename the actual preset, e.g. “preset name” 1, “preset name” 2, “preset name” 3, etc.

6.1 TUNER Module

The first module in AmpliTube X-GEAR is the Tuner (figure 6.5).

To access the tuner, click the TUNER button on the module selector. This tuner is a fully automatic chromatic tuner, meaning that there is no need to manually select the note you are going to tune. The tuner will automatically detect and show which note you’re playing. On the left there is an On/Off switch for the tuner (figure 6.6). Setting the switch to the ON position will turn on the Tuner.

There is a Mute control as well (figure 6.7). This makes it possible to silence the guitar signal while tuning, a very useful feature for live performance. These Bypass and Mute controls are the same controls that appear on the top right side of the AmpliTube X-GEAR interface (figure 6.8).

Under the On/Off and Mute controls, TUNE displays the tuning reference being used. The default reference is 440 Hz. This can be adjusted by clicking on the display. A cursor will appear: use backspace and cursor buttons to move and edit the value entering numbers. The standard and most common tuning refer-ence is 440 Hz, and the possible range is from 425 to 455 Hz (figure 6.9).

The right side of the tuner displays the detected note value and the fine-tuning in cents (figure 6.10). This is also visible on the I/O Interface section with the fine-tuning shown graphically (figure 6.11).

The main feature in the tuner is the graphical tuner interface (figure 6.12). Based on a high-end rackmount tuner, AmpliTube X-GEAR’s tuner allows for precise and easy tuning.

6.2 STOMP Module (Stomp Effects)

The second module in AmpliTube X-GEAR is the STOMP module.

To access the STOMP module, click the STOMP button on the Module Selector (figure 6.13).

The STOMP module flexibility allows you to freely configure six stomp pedal effects at a time. In fact, you can use the STOMP module as two independent six pedal stomp setups (figure 6.14) or as one twelve pedal stomp setup (figure 6.15). This is configured by selecting the appropriate routing preset to the left of the signal path display (figure 6.16).

The six stomp effect slots are displayed in the module interface as “empty” slots on a wooden pedal board (figure 6.17).

6.3 AMP Module (Amp Head)

6.3.1 Introduction

To access the AMP module, click the AMP button on the Module Selector. There are two separate amplifier modules that can be accessed independently (e.g. Amp A and Amp B), or paralleled for dual amp setups. Just select 1 of the 8 routing presets located to the left of the signal path display (figure 6.22).

To facilitate the amplifier models navigation, please read the following universal controls descriptions:

BYPASS: this control disables the AMP module from the plug-in’s signal (figure 6.23).

EQ MATCH: this control automatically selects the associated EQ section for the preamp that is selected (figure 6.24). This is very useful when trying to quickly select a specific guitar amp with its correct EQ Model.

AMP MATCH: the amp match control selects the associated power amp stage for the selected preamp (figure 6.25).

These controls simplify selecting complete guitar amps. These are very use-ful when trying to use a specific vintage or boutique guitar rig.

6.3.2 Model Components

The AMP module is divided into three separate models:

1. PRE2. EQ3. AMP

This allows you to create custom amps, choosing different components from each “Powered by AmpliTube” application.

Thanks to AmpliTube X-GEAR, you can choose a PRE model included in AmpliTube 2, and an EQ model from AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix.

PRE MODEL: the first stage in the AMP module (figure 6.26). This section models the initial preamp and drive stages of the various amplifiers.

EQ MODEL: the EQ stage follows the PRE Model (figure 6.27). Now, it is possible to design top-notch custom guitar tones.

AMP MODEL: the final stage of the amplifier module is the AMP model (figure 6.28). As different power amp designs affect the sound of a gui-tar amplifier differently, it is extremely valuable to have this part of the amplifier modeled separately. Now, you can use a Fender-style power amp section on a Marshall-style preamp.

6.4 CAB Module (Cabinets + Microphones)

6.4.1 Introduction

To open up the Cabinet module, click the CAB button on the module selector. There are two models in the CAB module: the SPEAKER MODEL) and the MIC MODEL.

6.4.2 SPEAKER MODEL

The SPEAKER MODEL (figure 6.29) features several speaker cabinet emula-tions, a plug-in bypass control, and a cabinet match switch.

BYPASS: bypasses the CAB module of the plug-in.

MATCH: automatically selects the cabinet to match the preamp that is selected in the AMP module.

6.4.3 MIC MODEL

The MIC MODEL (figure 6.30) features several microphone response models with Position (On/Off Axis) and Distance (Near/Far) options.

MIC MODEL: through this selector, you are able to select the microphone model to use (figure 6.31).

POSITION: through this selector, you are able to change the position of the microphone in relationship to the cone of the speaker (figure 6.32).

ON AXIS: On-Axis means that the microphone is in the center of the speaker (figure 6.33). Typically, On Axis position delivers a more pres-ent tonal balance with more high frequencies. This can be too bright or harsh for some Amp settings, in this case try the Off Axis position.

OFF AXIS: Off-Axis means that the microphone is positioned at the outside edge of the speaker (figure 6.34). This delivers a darker, sweeter tone than On Axis.

DISTANCE: via this selector, you can change the distance of the micro-phone in relation to the speaker cabinet (figure 6.35).

NEAR: near is obviously close to the speaker. Usually, Near position delivers more bass presence due to the proximity effect (figure 6.36).

FAR: positions the microphone further away from the speaker cabi-net, delivering a lighter bass response (figure 6.37).

you can virtually mic up your CAB using the On Axis position and Close distance settings. Now, if you feel that the sound is too big for your mix, change the mic distance to Far.• In general, extremely high gain sounds match well together with

an Off-Axis position and Close distance settings, (especially if you are using a bright microphone like the Dynamic 57).

AMBIENCE: adjusts the amount of room ambience that is mixed with the microphone signal (figure 6.38).

TIP: ambience is STEREO so to completely take advantage of this feature be sure to use AmpliTube X-GEAR on a stereo track or bus, or use a “Mono to Stereo” AmpliTube X-GEAR instance.

6.5 RACK FX Module (Post Effects)

To access the AmpliTube X-GEAR RACK module, click the RACK button on the Module Selector. There are two independent RACK modules featuring 4 stereo rack effects each. They can be used independently or together for a total of 8 rack effects.

To select a rack unit, click on each of the 4 racks displays (where it says “Empty”), (figure 6.39) and choose one of the available options or scroll through the different rack effects using the Up/Down arrows (figure 6.40).

Chapter 7 StealthPedal Control

StealthPedal can be used to control your AmpliTube X-GEAR in studio or during a live gig by switching among all your AmpliTube X-GEAR presets and by controlling every single parameter of them with its continuous con-trollers and switches.

Each AmpliTube X-GEAR preset can have a different control setup, so that you can control specific parameters on each preset, depending on what you need.

When StealthPedal is connected just select it on the Control menu and press ON to activate it (figure 7.1).

The SETUP button appears as soon as StealthPedal is selected as a controller (figure 7.2).

7.1 Assigning Continuous Controls

StealthPedal’s built in and optional external expression pedals are two con-tinuous controls that can be associated to any AmpliTube X-GEAR parameter.

By default the built in StealthPedal expression pedal is automatically assigned to the first pedal effect loaded on the AmpliTube X-GEAR pedal-board, from left to right. Likewise, the external expression pedal is automati-cally assigned to the second pedal effect loaded on the AmpliTube X-GEAR pedalboard, from left to right.

Pedal effects can be Wah’s, Volume’s, Wharmonator, Fuzz-Wah.. etc.

Both expression pedals, however, can be assigned to control any other parameter within X-GEAR of your choosing.

To do this simply select from the fields named “Built-In Pedal” or “Ext Pedal” the parameter you’re going to control, by selecting Module, Model and Parameter (figure 7.4).

Once you have selected a Parameter to be controlled its abbreviated name will appear (figure 7.5).

Sometimes you don’t need to span the whole parameter range with the external control, in this case you can restrict it by changing values in the “From” and “To” fields from 0% - 100% to, for example, 30% - 80%. In this case a movement of the pedal from min to max position will make the controlled parameter to go from 30% of its range to 80%.

It is for example useful to restrict the range when you’re controlling the Amp Volume knob to create swells, or when you’re controlling a feedback parameter for a Delay effect, in all these cases and many others you might just need a subtle variation.

If you want to reverse the control direction just set “From” higher than “To”.

7.2 Assigning Switch Controls

StealthPedal build in footswitch is located under the pedal rocket, as you expect from any standard Wah-style pedal (Built-In Switch).

You can connect two additional footswitches to StealthPedal, or use the one specifically made for it that contains two footswitches on the same box (Ext Switch 1 & 2).

By default the built in StealthPedal switch is automatically assigned to the first pedal effect bypass loaded on the AmpliTube X-GEAR pedalboard, from left to right, however, it can be configured, together with the two external switches to control any AmpliTube X-GEAR parameter, or turning on/off the Tuner.

In addition to this the two external footswitches can be set to switch to Previous or Next AmpliTube X-GEAR preset, and are set this way by default

when first attached. It is not possible to use the built-in footswitch to select Previous or Next preset.

Select from the fields named “Built-In Switch”, “Ext Switch 1” or “Ext Switch 2” the parameter you’re going to control, by selecting Module, Model and Parameter (figure 7.6).

Once you have selected a Parameter to be controlled its abbreviated name will appear (figure 7.7).

Switch controls are normally working in Latched mode, meaning that the controlled parameter will toggle between ON and OFF every time the Switch is pressed. They can however set to operate in Temporary mode by setting OFF on the “LATCH” field.

If “LATCH” is set to OFF, a footswitch will set the controlled parameter to ON only when it is kept pressed (figure 7.8).

To allow External Switches 1 & 2 to select the Previous and Next presets select “Preset Down” for External Switch 1. In this case External Switch 2 will automatically set to “Preset Up” (figure 7.9).

7.3 Saving Assignments

Once you have assigned Pedals and Footswitches on your preset to control the sound the way you need you can save the current preset by clicking on the SAVE button (figure 7.10).

If you were working on a previously loaded preset and you press SAVE, you will be asked if you want to overwrite it, and if you will confirm the preset will be stored with all control association you made.

7.4 Switching Presets

External Switch 1 & 2 can be set to select Previous or Next preset. This selection is not stored to the Preset, and it is global. This means that if you select External Switch 1 & 2 to switch presets this setting will be valid for all presets, no matter what was previously assigned on these switches.

Since presets Up and Down browsing works on all your AmpliTube X-GEAR presets it is suggested to create a folder and group all presets you need for a gig inside that folder by numbering them. This way you will be able to put them in a “sequence” and address them with StealthPedal switches.

7.5 Pedal Adjust

Expression pedals are mechanical devices that might need adjustment on their range from time to time to get a perfectly covered range.

This is especially needed if you use a different brand expression pedal as the external one.

To adjust pedals range just press PEDAL ADJUST (figure 7.11).

To properly set the Pedal range just set the physical pedal to the heel posi-tion and press the button MIN.

7.6.1 Level indication

Once AmpliTube X-GEAR is open and Control for StealthPedal is set ON the three StealthPedal LEDs are workning as an input level meter.

It is very important to properly set AmpliTube X-GEAR input level for the extremely high quality included models to sound properly.

When playing normally the green LED should be the one that is lit more often, with yellow one to light up during softer passages and RED one never or really only occasionally lighting up.

If during your playing only yellow LED turns on you need to increase the input gain.

As explained on this manual and on the StealthPedal manual this can be done by increasing the “Input Gain” value on AmpliTube X-GEAR standalone bottom frame and / or by enabling the StealthPedal Input Gain Boost.

If during your playing you frequently see the red LED lighting up you need to decrease the input gain.

As explained on this manual and on the StealthPedal manual this can be done by decreasing the “Input Gain” value on AmpliTube X-GEAR stand-alone bottom frame and / or by disabling the StealthPedal Input Gain Boost.

7.6.2 Tuning indication

StealthPedal LEDs will work as tuning indicator when you turn on the Tuner on AmpliTube X-GEAR.

The X-GEAR tuner can be turned on from the AmpliTube X-GEAR interface or from one of the StealthPedal footswitches if it has been assigned to “Tuner”.

AmpliTube X-GEAR has lots of parameters, more than what typically audio sequencers (DAWs) can support. For this reason, AmpliTube X-GEAR has its own internal Automation Parameter assignment window (figure 8.1).

8.1 Left Pane

The Left Pane displays AmpliTube X-GEAR Global and Module parameters, as well as all the Stomp, Amp, Cab, and Rack Modules gear in each Powered by AmpliTube application installed on your computer (figure 8.2).

On Left Pane, you will be able to select which AmpliTube X-GEAR parameter you are going to assign to Automation.

Because of AmpliTube X-GEAR dual rig setup, each Module is listed separately as Stomp A, Stomp B, Amp A, Amp B, Cab A, Cab B, and Rack A, Rack B (figure 8.3).

In addition to that, you can assign to Automation every parameter of every model in each Powered by AmpliTube application installed on your com-puter! This gives you nearly infinite creative power!

8.2 Right Pane

The Right Pane lists the 16 Automation parameters that are declared to the DAW (figure 8.4).

These parameters names (Param 1 to Param 16) are fixed because most DAWs do not support automation parameter name changes while the plug-in is open.

Through the Right Pane, you will be able to select which DAW Automation parameter # you’re going to use for the AmpliTube X-GEAR parameter previ-ously selected on the Left pane. For example, if you selected a Chorus on the Left pane and then click ADD, the Right Pane will display:

Param 1: Chorus-1 (AT2) A Chorus (figure 8.5).

8.3 Assignment procedure

To assign an AmpliTube X-GEAR parameter to one of the 16 DAW Automation parameters, please follow these simple steps:

1. Click on Automation (figure 8.6).

2. On Left Pane, select which AmpliTube X-GEAR parameter you are going to assign to Automation (figure 8.7).

To move up / down an assignment click the MOVE UP / MOVE DOWN arrows (figure 8.13).

For example, if a Wah is assigned to “Param 1”, you can move the Wah to “Param 2” by selecting “Param 1” and clicking on the Move down arrow. This is a very useful feature because it saves you to remove the assignment from “Param 1” and create a new assignment for “Param 2”.

8.4 Assignment Save and Recall

Clicking OK will save and close the Automation window.

If you are using AmpliTube X-GEAR as plug-in, the automation assignment map will be stored and restored to and from the session you’re working on.

Each AmpliTube X-GEAR instance is independent from the others and can have different Automation assignments setup. This means that saving your DAW session, will save each the automation setup for each AmpliTube X-GEAR instance.

8.5 Automation with StompIO

A StompIO switch or pedal action could be written to your audio sequenc-er (DAW) automation ONLY if StompIO controls are assigned to active AmpliTube X-GEAR parameters.

For example, if you are playing a StompIO patch that includes a Wah controlled by a StompIO pedal, you need to assign the Wah parameter to automation (by using the Automation window), and set your DAW to record automation. In this way, you will be able to record your Wah movements

AmpliTube X-GEAR basic functions can be MIDI controlled via CC# (Control Change number) MIDI messages.

9.1 MIDI Configuration

MIDI can be set up for using an external MIDI controller for Volume/Wah changes, turning effects On and Off, and preset changes. In the bottom of the Audio MIDI Set-up window, select the MIDI input that is connected to the MIDI controller. Now, the Learn button can be used to assign MIDI controller messages to each of the selected AmpliTube X-GEAR parameters.

9.2 MIDI Control

To control AmpliTube X-GEAR basic functions through MIDI please follow these easy steps:

1. Click the MIDI button (figure 9.1).

6. Click OK to save the association and close the MIDI Control window, or CANCEL to erase it (figure 9.5).

Note: if you are planning to set several AmpliTube X-GEAR parameters / MIDI CC# associations at the same moment, it is not necessary to click OK after each association. Just click OK after you finish all your associations and they will be automatically saved.

To delete a particular AmpliTube X-GEAR parameter / MIDI CC# association, select it, and click CLEAR (figure 9.6).

Where can I find my IK product Serial Number?

The Serial Number is written on the Registration Card (included with your IK product, inside the license envelope). In the snapshot; please check its exact location (figure 10.1).

Why is my Digital ID being rejected during the Online Registration process?

There probably is a typo on it. Remember that the Digital ID has NO letter “I” and “O”, only the numbers “1” (one) and “0” (zero). In order to prevent any further mistakes, please Copy the Digital ID from the Authorization Form to the Registration Form.

Where can I find my Serial Number, Digital ID, and the Authorization Code of a registered IK Product?

In your IK product interface, locate the Authorization button (the one with a small lock on it) and click on it. If your product version has no Authorization button, log in into the User Area, and click Authorizations. You will be able to check your product Serial Number. Then click on Request New. You will be able to check the Digital ID and the Authorization Code information.

How can I get a new Authorization Code?

Please go to our FAQ page at www.ikmultimedia.com/faq and read the “How can I get a new Authorization Code?” FAQ.

I have already registered my product online, but I did not get an Authorization Code.

I need to log in into the User Area but I forgot my User Name and Password. What should I do?

I just bought an IK product. What should I do to register and authorize my new product?

Visit our website www.ikmultimedia.com In the Support Area, click on the Product Registration link.

In the Serial Number field of the Product Registration Form, please insert the Serial Number written on the Registration Card (included with your IK boxed product, inside the license envelope) or the one that has been delivered to you (e.g. Online purchase, such as a Digital Delivery, or update).

Complete the Registration Form and click Submit.

Regarding the Authorization process, if you already typed your Digital ID while filling the Product Registration Form, you will receive an email from us with your Authorization Code. If not, after you launch the program the Product Authorization Wizard will appear. Please read and follow the instructions provided in each of the wizard’s windows and get an Authorization Code.
