The FR-F 700 series

The economical solution:The new FR-F700 is distin-guished by its high energy-conservation potential –particularly when used withpumps and fans. Major energysavings are achieved espe-cially in the important lowerspeed ranges and during therun-up and braking phases. At an initial frequency of35Hz, for instance, the energysavings come to 57% whencompared with conventionalconcepts. The forward-look-ing OEC (Optimum ExcitationControl) technology effects anadditional 10% energy saving. It provides the ideal flux tothe motor at all times. The advantage: Maximummotor effectiveness at thehighest efficiency.

Output range:0.75kW to 630kW, 380 to 480V(as of 75kW: 380 to 500V)

State-of-the-art ASIC chips

A brand-new ASICcomponent reduces motorspeed fluctuations to lessthan 50% of the valuesmeasured for traditionalinverters (at 1Hz). This newchip also permits directdisplay and control of theoperating status of the powercircuit.

Network communications

Add-on option cards enableopen communication withindustry-standard bussystems like Profibus/DP,DeviceNet, CC-Link andCANopen, making it possibleto integrate the frequencyinverters in completeautomation systems.

Practical functions and the ideal solution forevery drive application

The designations for theFR-S 500, FR-E 500 andFR-A 500 series arebased on the maximumpossible overload.

Thus the value of 7.5Kon the inverter dataplate indicates itsperformance capacitiesat the desired 200%overload level. This highperformance standardmeans that the inverteris overdimensionedwhere overload capacityof 150% or 100% isrequired; in these casesa smaller inverter maybe chosen.

The adjacent table canbe used to select theideal inverter for thedrive system.

Our comprehensiverange of frequency

inverters offers awealth of benefits for

the user, making it easy tochoose the perfect solution for

every drive application.

A 200% overload rating isstandard

An overload capacity of 200% isstandard for most MitsubishiElectric frequency inverters. This means that they deliverdouble the performance of thecompeting inverters with thesame rating.

Active current limiting

The perfect responsecharacteristics of the currentvector control system gives youthe confidence you need fordemanding drive applications. This system instantly identifiesovercurrents and limits themautomatically with lightning-speed response, allowing themotor to continue operatingnormally at the currentthreshold.

Vector control and slipcompensation

The ideal combination of vectorcontrol and slip compensationmakes it possible to cope witheven the most difficult drivesystems. There are no complexconfiguration procedures –entering the motor capacity isall it takes to activate thispowerful function. Everythingelse is handled by the auto-adaptation capabilities. And theself-adjusting vector controlsystem delivers powerfultorque combined withexemplary motor speedconstancy.

No matter whether yourapplication is simple orcomplex you can alwaysfind the right inverter inthe comprehensiveMitsubishi range. Typicalapplications include:

● Sawing, milling,grinding and millingmachines

● Pumps, fans, doorand gate drives

● Conveyor belts andscrew conveyors

● Spinning and knittingmachines, looms

● Material handlingand palletisingsystems

● Machine tools andmachining systems

Drive system for atypical heat exchanger

Between double and triplerated motor load torque iseven possible during thestartup phase and at lowspeeds, and at the same timethe load-based motor slip isdetected and accuratelycompensated.

Soft PWM function

Mitsubishi’s specially-developed Soft PWM functioncomplements the standardnoise reduction functions, further reducing unnecessarymotor noise and interferencevoltages. This adjustable PWMfunction enables whisper-quiet motor running, even atlow switching frequencies. The function generates aminimal noise level thatsounds rather like quietly-running water and is not at allunpleasant.

Cutting power consumption

The cutting-edge OECtechnology (OptimumExcitation Control) developedby Mitsubishi turns frequency

inverters into real energysavers, achieving maximumdrive capacity utilisation atminimum powerconsumption. This savesmoney and boosts operatingefficiency. With risingelectricity costs this meansthat Mitsubishi frequencyinverters now pay forthemselves even faster thanbefore.

Optimum Excitation Controlensures that the motor beingserved gets just exactly theamount of magnetic flux re-quired for optimum efficiency. This is particularly importantat low speeds and during therun-up and braking phases. This concept extends the mo-tor’s service life and makesthe entire drive system evenmore economical.

Flexible control units, versatile options anduseful accessories

Standard control units

All the frequency inverters arefitted with a standard controlunit matched to itsperformance range. In the FR-S 500 it is integrated into theunit; in the FR-A 500 and FR-F700 it can be exchanged andother frequency convertersmay be used, if desired. The

plug-in control unit for the FR-E 500 is available as well. Allthe control units provide forclear, user-friendly andeffective operation of thefrequency converters. Thedisplay, designed for easyreading even at a distance, shows various operatingmagnitudes and errormessages.

Optional control units

The FR-PA02-02 with itsadditional functions can beused only with the FR-E 500series. The FR-PU04 controlunit with an expanded rangeof functions is available for allother series. It features a 10-key keypad for enteringnumerical values. A 4-line LCDdisplay shows plain-textoperating information, parameter names, or statusand error messages. Anadditional 21 values andstates are displayed andmonitored, in any of eightlanguages (German, English,French, Spanish, Swedish,Italian, Finnish and Japanese).

Internal and externalexpansion options

A comprehensive range ofexpansion options areavailable to adapt thefrequency inverter to the taskat hand. Installation of theexpansion modules is quickand easy. There are two maingroups, internal and externalmodules. The internalmodules include input andoutput modules andcommunications modules forconnection of the frequencyinverters to networks, PCs, andPLCs. Another module enablesconnection of a pulse signalgenerator for position controland precise speed control viaa feedback branch.

Wide range of accessories

Carefully matched accessoriesare available for each inverterseries, including inputreactors and DC reactors, noise and sine wave filters, and fans in various designs.

The mains input and DClink reactors help tocompensate for voltagefluctuations whilst alsoincreasing efficiency.

The extremely compactfilter set efficientlyeliminates interferenceand takes up very littlespace.

The fans are easilyaccessible for quick andeasy replacement. Theirservice life can beincreased significantlywith the properparameter settings.

Setup parameters areeasy to set and transferwith the control unit, which can also be usedto transfer sets ofparameters from onefrequency inverter toanother.
