S C R I P T U R E : 1 PETER 5:8; EPHESIANS 6:12; AND VARIOUS (NKJV)

ANGELS, SATAN, DEMONS, SPIRITUAL WARFARE

1. What are angels? Angels are very powerful spiritual beings created by God to serve Him. They are messengers from the Lord. They are also ministering spirits that look after God’s family, the church.

• There are archangels: angel princes such as Michael that represent an entire nation.

• What is a demon? A demon is a fallen angel. Satan who was the very highest angel rebelled against God, and he took one third of the angels with him. When their rebellion failed, they were cast out of heaven. Now they are demons of which satan is the head.

“You were the seal of perfection,Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God;Every precious stone was your covering:The sardius, topaz, and diamond,Beryl, onyx, and jasper,Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipesWas prepared for you on the day you were created.

“How you are fallen from heaven,O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground,You who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart:‘I will ascend into heaven,I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;I will also sit on the mount of the congregationOn the farthest sides of the north;I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,I will be like the Most High.’Isaiah 14:12–14 (NKJV)

• Lucifer means the “light one.” Satan means the “adversary.” Beelzebub means “lord of the flies.” Apollyon means “destroyer.”

2. Who leads satan’s team, and what are his battle plans?

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.John 10:10a (NKJV)

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV)

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)

• Principalities: territorial spirits / they have broad areas of influence

• Powers: strongholds, demons assigned to certain sins

• Rulers: offices held by spirit beings, authorities, dominions

3. What are we to do as the Church of Jesus Christ? • Sit: speaks of reigning, a finished work, and also speaks of being in a relaxed position / knowing who we are in Christ!

and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,Ephesians 2:6 (NKJV)

• Walking: Our responsibility is to live out the will and word of God. Ephesians 4:1–9

• Standing: Take our stand against evil powers. Ephesians 6:10-20

• Pray: Prayer is the battle itself.

praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watch-ful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—Ephesians 6:18 (NKJV)

4. What is going to happen to satan? • Knowing that his days are numbered he will come to earth with wrath and do hideous things.

• He will possess a human being who is known as the antichrist, who will become a worldwide dictator.

• He will be bound for 1,000 years during Christ’s reign of peace and love. At the end of this time the devil will be set free for a short time, lead an assault on God, and lose.

• He will be cast into the Lake of Fire with his demons where they will spend eternity.
