In using these objectives, we identified that there were
opportunities to clean up the look-and-feel of what a user sees
within their profile, their group, and APAN headers. This
approached drove a simple, cleaner UI in support of a overall
customer experience. 34With APAN 8.0 there isless customization for
APAN developers by eliminating My APAN.Users have more options to
identify content, colleagues & activity through their Profile
Dashboard & Activity Streams.APAN 7.xAPAN 8.0
With the goal of eliminating what was not necessary, we
determined the out-of-the-box Telligent navigation, provided a more
intuitive flow which is easier for a user. This drove the
elimination of My APAN, which was customized by APAN development
team.
The new out-of-the-box profile uses a dashboard approach which
is similar in other online social applications. The Activity Stream
provide user content types which enables users to locate
colleagues, find recent updates to posts and status messages. The
enhanced Activity Stream allows an APAN Group to be more social by
allowing more content to be shared for collaboration opportunities
through a variety of content types. (Blogs, forums, calendars,
wikis, status messages, likes, mentions, forum Q&A, forum
discussions, etc.)

allows users of tablets and smartphones to use APAN anytime,

6With APAN 8.0 there is less configuring for a Group Owner when
adding specific widgets to their Community.
Now, APAN provides more Group Option features.
Group Option Features help toautomate widget configurations for
SharePoint, Maps, Media Galleries, Connect, & Chat manage APAN
Features and Services within a group.APAN 8.0 Group OptionsMore
than 1/3 of APANs support tickets are directly related to
configuring widgets and or web-parts.In simplifying the user
experience, we were able to automate APAN Features and Services
widgets.
This eliminates the need for Group Owners to create a page, find
the widget, drop the widget on the page, and then configure it.
Automating these widgets will provide APAN users time-saving and
overall hassle of contacting the Support Desk for how to
assistance.This also assists Group Owners manage which features are
turned on/off within their community in one location.67Less

CalendarMedia galleries have the ability to include files and
folders, something most users have requested.
Groups have the ability to include Event Registration or
individual calendars which is essential for exercise planning,
working groups, or HADR events.78Finding content easily is key.
Sending everyone in a Group to the same content is less difficult
using Pinning.APAN has added Pinning which uses a URL from an
external site within a media gallery to direct group members
consistently.APAN 8.0 Added Content Perks
A more direct approach to adding images or files to a post is to
drag a file directly into the post.APAN has added the drag-and-drop

discoverability due to reclassifying communities into HADR,
Exercises, Conferences, & Workgroups by using APAN URLs and
date filters.
APAN 8.0 Group DiscoverabilityGroups have been re-organized into
four (4) main top-level URLs with APAN 8: HADR, Exercises,
Conferences, and Workgroups. These are the most common kinds of
communities on APAN.
A team reviewed each group and classified the APAN Communities
according to these 4 entities to support the technical changes to
URLs.
It has been determined that a user knows why he/she is at APAN
and should be able to distinguish from the four categories which
assists with discoverability.
There is an auto-redirector for all old URLs, so anyone who is
using bookmarks/favorites from their browser, or links from email
or external documents will still go to the right community.

APAN 8.0 Group Starter-kitPreviously, Group Owners often called
APAN for support, now that my group is created, what do I do with
it?Group Owners will experience less confusion and more how to
information that links directly to the KB & Quick-Tips through
the Group Starter-kit.Group Enhancements can be seen throughout the
tool, but one that will ideally reduce levels of APAN Staffs
support is the Group Starter-Kit. When a new group is created, and
once the owner is assigned, the Group Owner will receive specific
notifications that instruct an Owner how to configure/set-up their
group.
The instructions will include links to the customer-facing
knowledge base.
This will assist Group Owner with a quick-tips approach on what
they need to do on how to set-up their group.
1112Customizable Group BannersAPAN 8.0: BETA - Most liked Group
Owner Changes Content SliderNotificationsNew button allows for
simple Content & Subgroup Creation
When examining changes made to groups, these are the most liked
by our APAN 8.0 - BETA Testers.
Customizable Banner Widget is new. This is good for landing
pages with multiple subgroups. This allows for better navigation;
it allows a group to have the capability to navigate across many
subgroups without having to go back to the original landing
page.The ability to feature content has been enhanced. It allows
for individual group use, versus use only at the top Admin Only
APAN level.Group owners now how the option to select a template.
Subgroup creation can now be done on the Front UI, versus having to
go to a control panel.Notifications have been enhanced which allows
for easier group communication and collaboration.
Less effort is key to almost anything! From creating blogs to
adding a calendar, having one location to create everything creates
an intuitive, direct approach for all users.
