This apple dishcloth is crocheted using acrylic yarn which gives it extra scrubbing

power. It also dries a lot quicker than cotton yarn. One side is red or green and the

other is white, just like the inside and outside of an apple. The two sides are crocheted

FINISHED SIZE

7¾” at the widest part and 6” tall (excluding stem)

YARN

Green or red DK weight acrylic yarn, about 68 yards (62 metres)

White DK weight acrylic yarn, about 50 yards (46 metres)

Scrap amount of brown DK weight acrylic yarn for stem and seeds

HOOK

Size F/5 (3.75 mm)

NOTE

When crocheting the apple pieces, the work will curl a little. Don’t worry about it and

keep crocheting. When all the pieces are sewn together, the apple dishcloth will latten

and smooth out.

I realised only after inishing the dishcloths that there are normally only 2 seeds

visible in the cross-section of the apple. Ahem. So let’s just say I made a creative

interpretation, rather than an accurate represention of an apple. (blush)

Fasten off and leave a long tail about 12” long.

Make another one in the same colour and two more using the white yarn.

Tie the two matching pieces together in the middle with the loose ends. Sew them

together using the long tail and an embroidery needle. Weave in any loose ends.

Using the brown yarn and an embroidery needle, sew on apple seeds onto thewhite side of the dishcloth. I used the bullion stitch to create my seeds and have

demonstrated it on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1wy7ThZ8AM

Placing the wrong sides of the apple pieces together, sc around the edges of the apple

using the red or green yarn. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.

For the stem:

Using the brown yarn, ch 2. 2 sc into 1st ch. Ch 1, turn. – 2 sts

1 sc into each st. Ch 1, turn. – 2 sts

Repeat this row until the stem measures 4” long.

Sc2tog. – 1 st

Fasten off and leave a tail about 4” long. Attach stem to the top of the apple using this

tail and embroidery needle.
