E S T A B L I S H M E N TApple was established in Cupertino, California on April 1st, 1976, by college dropouts Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs. Their partnership began a couple of years earlier when they built “boxes” (computers) to make long distance calls for free. They started the company using the $1,300 they collected by selling their van and two calculators. They called their company Apple Computer Inc. at the time, though the name eventually changed to Apple Inc. in 2007, as their products began to vary.

Apple has become the famous and successful company it is today through its

effective advertising. It essentially advertized through commercials on

television (which appeared all around the world) – starting from the first commercial

advertising the Macintosh computer in 1984, to the modern ‘Get a Mac’ adverts.

Global Expansion

Page 18: Apple Inc

These ads were well-recognized and caught the audience’s attention, as they connected to and mentioned famous people and events: the Macintosh Super Bowl commercial from 1984 mimicked scenes from George Orwell’s novel, Nineteen-

Eighty-Four. It also showed famous social figures in its advertisements, such as John Lennon and Mahatma Gandhi

Strategies to catch Attention

They also used smart strategies to compare Macs with PCs and show how much better and “cooler” they are.

Apple also advertises through its website (that encompasses all the products, the famous app store, etc.) and the iTunes system that it created to sell music and movies.

Apple Inc is successful for various reasons. Firstly, they create phones; computers and even music players with different systems than any other company, making the people buying it feel like they have to own it because it’s unique. Another reason is because the products can last for many years without breaking. Apple Inc Products are made attractive to young people specifically by the usage of attention grabbing designs and colors, convenience (light, fast, efficient) and it’s link to the music industry. They also export their goods to about 11 countries, in 325 stores, with more than 1.3 million Macs sold in the last quarter of 1999 itself.
