La versión 4.9 de iTunes, publicada el día 28 de junio de 2005, agregó soporte interno para hacer podcasting.

Permite a los usuarios suscribirse a podcasts en la Tienda de Música de iTunes o ingresando la fuente web. Una vez suscrito, el podcast se descargará automáticamente y el usuario puede elegir en actualizar el podcast semanalmente, diariamente, por hora o manualmente.

Los usuarios pueden elegir podcasts para escuchar desde el Directorio de Podcasts, en el cual cualquiera puede subir sus podcasts. En éste directorio,

Apple mantiene cuatro podcasts "oficiales": Podfinder, Street Official Real Talk (entrevistas con artistas de hip-hop), iTunes New Music Tuesday y Apple Quarterly Earnings Calls. La página de inicio permite a los usuario ver todos los podscasts y ordenarlos por categoría o popularidad.
