Approximately 182 Alumni and friends gath~red at T811madge High Schoolon Saturday June 8, 1996 for the l17th annual hanquet and meeting.

We began with a social hour at 5:45 P. M. followed by a chicken andbeef buffet dinner served by Mel's Catering of Kent, Ohio.

The decorations were the traditional Blue and Gold. The arrangementcommittee was chaired by James Werner.

President Karl Starks welcomed the alumni and their guests.

The invocation was given by Faith Wagner Hause.

After dinner and a brief intermission we moved to the Les Bennettroom for our meeting and program.

President Starks called the meeting to order at 7:30 P. M.

President Starks introduced all the officers and committees andthanked them for their work.

A special thanks was given John a~d Daisy 1lg Scalia of A-A Blueprintfor donating all of our printing services.

The secretary's report of the l16th meeting was read and approved.

The Treasurer's Report was read and approved.

The Treasurer's Books were audited by Wilma Crites Newlon (1933)and found to be accurate and in order.

We were fortunate to have the new Superintendent Robert G. Lovegive us a report on the school.On Sunday June 2, 1996 184 seniors graduated from TallmadgeHigh School.69% will attend a 4 year college, 6% a 2 year college7% will attend a trade, technical college, 2% will enter themilitary and 10% will enter the Labor Market.

Tallmadge is a four-year comprehensive high school. There were796 students in grades 9-12 and 2,665 students in the district.

A minimum of 18 credits are required for graduation. Fifty-twopercent of the faculty have Master's degrees or more.

Locally funded scholarships totaling more than $22,000.00 wereawarded to graduating seniors.

The High school will convert to block scheduling for the 1996-97school year. This means they will have longer classes and lessstudy hall time.

A Student Information Council was created this year to coincidewith our shared mnnagement and leadership process. They met bi-weekly through the year. A Parent Information Council was formedand met through the school year to provide ideas and share concerns.

Tallmadge High School P~.A continues to be strong at the High Schoollevel assisting in many functions. Selling poinsettias at Christmashost the 50's Dance, assist with Distinguished Scholars and theAwards Assembly and 8th Grade Orientation. They also sponsoredthe 40th annual art show.

Our government students this year learned to surf the internetthanks to a grant received.

CRE classes raised moneyat Children's Hospital.and attached articles ofHexican border.

to buy stuffed animals for the childrenSpanish IV classes made Christmas craftsclothing. These items were sent to the

American Legion sponsored another Oratorical Contest our winneralso won the regional competition. The Optimist Club of GreaterAkron slso offered an Oratorical contest where our winner went onto win regional competition. Our Youth Leadership representativewas chosen to go on the international Youth Leadership conference.

The Tallmadge Dynamics Community Theater presented "Father KnowsBest" in Narch.

The exciting productions of 1995-96 were "The HOUG2 that Roared"and "Li' 1 Abner". The drama department was also involved w i th thecommuni ty in ter- gene rational production of "Fa the r :~nm.;rsRes t" .

Extra Curricular Activities (Continued)

Our drama program is an excellent and enjoyable way to fulfillthe college entrance reqdirement for fine arts. It's excitingto be on the cutting edge of high school drama which is thefastest growing program in the United States.

Industrial Technology Club

Among the many fine projects this year at the Showcase of Excellencewere model house frames, cloc~s, coatraclcs, mass produced Periscopescastings, metal works of art and technical drawings.

Music Programs

Vocal Music - 32 members of the choir were very active this yearin performances in the community and here at school. Concerts includedHoliday Tree Festival, High School Holiday Concert, District tourand the Middle School and Dunbar, Ohio Music Educators DistrictContest at Wooster High School and Spring Choral Concert. Theyreceived excellent ratings at contest.

A Cappella Choir grew to 28 singers this year bringing the totalin choir at THS to 60. They performed at the Homecoming FootballPre-game, Holiday Tree Festival and the Teacher Recognition Dinneras well as school concerts District Contest and Commencement.

Marching Band - The marching band began its outstanding seasonwith performances at Kent Roosevelt and Cuyahoga Falls Band shows.The band had competition performances at Cloverleaf, Nordoniaand Brunswick High Schools. The band received an excellent rating~ot all three. TheBand also performed in the Classic MusicFestival Parade Competition in Williamsburg Virgin"a and wasrated excellent.

Concert Band - The Concert Band again had an outstperformances and an increase in membership from 75The band competed in a more difficult classificatiyear and received excellent ratings from all judgeMusic Educators District Contest at Wooster High Salso received an excellent rating at Williamsburg.seniors will be studying music in college and threscholarships.

Jazz Combo - Jazz Band is open to all band studentlearn to perforci the different style~ of jazz nushow to create music through solo improvisation. Tperformed at all the band concerts and the Showcas
