LAST MONTH WAS BUSY: On March 9 we had an excellent Joint program with Sisterhood—American Political Sex Scandals: From the Founding Fathers to Carlos Danger by Brookdale College Professor Jack Needle. This program was sponsored by The Mindy Nightingale Memorial Fund. Pictured above is Marilyn Karlstein introducing the Professor. Professor Needle and part of the crowd at the program. On the second row is Rabbi Wernick reading the Megillah—Book of Esther on Purim, David Honig holding the Torah while Mark Sadek is tying it, and Raymond Zitter getting an Aliyah at the service with the Rabbi laining the Torah with Chuck Rogol, Harvey Cohen and Joe Shafran as Gabbis. Purim fell on Sunday and we read the Torah and Megillah. The service was 35 minutes longer than usual, but we all felt it was worth the extra time. We also got many chances to blot out Haman’s name. The Book of Esther is a very touching and moving story that you should re-read if you weren't at a service on Purim.

More Accountant Movies The Wolf of Wall Street was nominated for Best Oscar. Harvey Cohen suggested The Producers, I am offering Prizzi’s Honor—the person played by Kathryn Turner had a cover as a tax specialist; and Shin-dler’s List—the part played by Ben Kingsley was an accountant. Also, The Untouchables where Al Ca-pone was arrested for tax evasion—the only charge against him that took; and Some like It Hot and The Apartment. Thanks to Ken for these.

More Lawyer Movies— Nothing submitted

Movies showing Men’s Club activities I am just kidding. But what about movies with Jewish activities or showing Jews as Jews. Good Bye Columbus and Wedding Singer come to mind. Also The Witness shows a Hassid that looks like an Amish person. And what about A Stranger Among Us or Crossing Delancy. How many other movies with Jewish activities can you come up with? Let me know!

Beth Ohr Members’ Friendships and Joining-in-Fun Activities We Pray together, party together, play together and travel together. We have Men’s Club, Sisterhood, DayTimers, Synagogue committees, poker, canasta, weekly lunch and Mahjong groups and an Investment club. Beth Ohr is more than a Shul—it is a way of life and a strong visible symbol of the Jewish presence in our area.

Shown at the top left are some of the peo-ple that attended the organizational meet-ing to form CHAVURAH Groups. Please join them for a new and fun way to social-ize with your fellow Temple mem-bers. Each group will consist of 8 – 12 peo-ple and will meet once a month. The group will be required to plan at least one program for the entire congregation to enjoy. If you are interested, call Linda Skupp at 732-251-0447 Shown at the top right are part of the R.O.M.E.O. lunch group that meets every Friday at Bagel Boy. All are congregants. To the left is a depiction of the Four Ques-tions drawn by Arthur Szyk that we will all hear and answer at the Seder’s in April. And on the right is Bob Lipp in the middle of Winter, taken while he was on the Foun-tains’ golf course in Florida where he lives in wonderful retirement!

For those that haven’t seen it late-

ly, the sanctuary is shown on the

right. It is open for services every

Friday night, Shabbos morning

and Sunday morning.

The room looks better when it is

filled with people.

MEKHIRAT HAMETZ

(SALE OF LEAVEN 2014)

The Torah tells us that during Passover, “No leaven shall be found in your houses for seven days” (Exodus 12:19). The Rabbis understood this to mean that one could not own any

hametz during the holiday. To prevent the financial hardship that would result from discarding all of one’s leaven on an annual basis, the rabbis developed a legal mechanism whereby an in-dividual could sell his/her leaven to a non-Jew for the duration of the holiday. PLEASE REMEMBER that even if you plan to be away from home for the entire holi-day, you must still sell all the hametz you own. Similarly, should you own other property, or store leaven products in your office, you must still sell the hametz stored at those locations. While there is no charge for the selling of leaven, it is customary to include a charitable contribution with the “Sale of Leaven” form. PLEASE FILL OUT THE FORM BELOW AND RETURN IT TO THE SYNA-

GOGUE OFFICE WITH YOUR TZEDAKAH DONATION MADE OUT TO THE

“RABBI’S DISCRETIONARY FUND” OR JEWISH FAMILY SERVICES NO LATER

THAN THURSDAY, APRIL 10TH (YOU MAY, HOWEVER, GIVE IT TO RABBI

WERNICK IN PERSON ON MONDAY, APRIL 14TH AT THE FAST OF THE FIRST

BORN SERVICE AT 7:00 A.M.)

THE UNDERSIGNED, BY HIS/HER/THEIR SIGNATURE(S), have herewith granted full Power-of-Attorney to Rabbi Eugene Wernick of Congregation Beth Ohr, concerning the sale of every product containing leaven or its derivatives in his/her/their possession, effective as of 11:00 PM. Eastern Daylight Saving Time, on the 14th day of the Hebrew month of Nisan which is the day before the First Seder that night. This power of attorney includes the right to rent to the purchaser all storage space, vessels and receptacles wherein such merchandise is currently found, binding, and may thus be enforced in the most effective manner in accordance with the laws of our Torah, as well as in accordance with the civil laws of the State of New Jersey. Do a Mitzvah...Help Others Who Need Us

This year, Congregation Beth Ohr will once again participate in the Holiday Food Basket program for the Jewish Family Services. In this way, we can help needy families in our community to enjoy a tra-ditional Pesach. JFS collects Passover food and prepares baskets for the families. Every family also receives supermarket vouchers so they can purchase fresh products to supplement the baskets. We can choose to donate Kosher For Passover food or we can make a cash donation. Below is a sample list of foods that can be used in the baskets. If you have food to donate (please make sure everything is dated 2014), just place it in the food bin in the lobby of the Synagogue by Monday, April 7th . Any monetary donations can be sent to the Syna-gogue office to the attention of Ira Donenfeld or Synagogue Office. If you need food to be picked up, please call Ira Donenfeld at 732-679-2652. Last Pesach, the community distributed food baskets to over 500 families. This year we have more families in crisis. Please par-ticipate in this project, do a mitzvah, and help make the coming of Passover a little brighter for fellow Jewish families who are in need.

Sample List of Food For Baskets: Matzo, Matzo Meal, Sugar, Gefilte Fish, Soup,

Cookies, Candies, Oil, Macaroons, Coffee (4 oz. or 6 oz. only), Tea Bags (small box),

The Hebrew School then put on a Purim Spiel that was a most en-joyable telling of the Story of Esther. Chuck, Lysa and Heidi Rogol also wish to thank the PTO for having the option of sending our Purim basket to the Food Bank instead of taking it home. A great way to carry out the mitzvah of Shalach Manor. Today Robah to all who worked on this.

Following the movie coffee and cake will be served.

Please bring non-perishable Passover food for the needy.
