At our Council’s Retreat at St. Paul’s Monastery in April you will have a weekend free from outside distractions to devote to your own spiritual rejuvenation. Carnations on Mother’s Day—and

in Support of a Pro-Life Cause

Once again, it’s time to honor our Mothers this coming Mother’s Day,

while funding those who support a choice for life. The Knights of Columbus

Council 1481 will run this campaign donating one half of the profits to

My Choice. A fitting gift on Mother’s Day. The price for each carnation is

just one dollar.

Carnations will be sold in 3 different ways:

1. Available for sale at St Bernard’s and St Thomas More churches after all Masses on Mother’s

Day weekend, May 13. Please consider helping after these Masses.

2. Pre-orders from local churches and restaurants. Please consider helping to fill those orders on Friday

evening, May 11, at the lodge -- and distributing carnations on Saturday morning, May 12.

3. Individual pledges to purchase carnations for the nursing and personal care homes will be accept-

ed. Please consider making a pledge or asking for pledges from others, such your place of work.

For any additional information or to offer your help, contact Bob Dalecki 724 840-2829 or

[email protected] .

Happy Easter! Resurrexit sicut dixit! Alleluia! April 15 (tax day) is right around the corner.

It’s become popular this time of year to encour-age the opening of an IRA or similar retirement annuity, or the depositing of additional funds into an existing account, as a tax-savings vehi-cle. Or perhaps someone has tried to convince you to open an account, touting the rate of in-terest that money in one of these accounts can earn.

Let me join the chorus of folks encouraging you to open or add funds to an annuity, but for a different reason. Our annuities do pay a very competitive interest rate, consistent with our primary goal of absolute safety of princi-pal. But, How does retirement income that you cannot outlive—guaranteed—sound to you?

Here at the Knights of Columbus, you can open a retirement annuity for as little as $300. Consistent and disciplined savings placed into that annuity over time can – properly structured – guarantee you an income at retirement that you cannot outlive.

I am happy to meet with you – at your conven-ience and in your home – to explain in detail the benefits of opening a Knights of Columbus annuity, along with the benefits of our top-rated life insurance, disability income and long-term care insurance plans.

Michael Steele, K of C Field Agent 951-901-0803. [email protected]

As always, everyone had a great time helping with the St. Bernard Fish Fry. There was a fan-tastic turn out of brother Knights, and much fun was had as we worked together. “You guys do great work,” “I think it is wonderful what the Knights do,” “It's great the work you do to help the school,” are just a few of the many compliments we received from the patrons. This is probably the biggest fundraiser for the school – it's great to be a part of it. Many thanks to all of you who helped with this event, and to those who showed their support by at-tending the Fish Fries.

We decided to donate the proceeds from the Hoss's Cash Cow fundraiser to St. Bernard School this time. Thanks to the many Brothers and fellow parishioners who supported this event, we were able to present a check for $667 to Mrs. Swope. The money will be used toward repair or replacement of aging appliances, or other maintenance needs.

It's time again for the delicious Sin-a-Buns, so please support the School by purchasing Sin-a-Buns the weekend of April 14/15. Anyone wanting to help with baking please contact the school.

They are also looking forward to their Golf Outing in July. If you like to golf please con-sider playing. Sponsors and prize donors are also needed.

Thank you Brothers for all your support.

Mike Morris ~ School Liaison Chairman

Council 1481 Hoss’ Fundraiser Thanks to all brother Knights and their families who participated in the Hoss’s fundraiser on March 18. We raised $667.69 to benefit St Bernard School. --Br Jeffrey Bacha
