The campaign resulted in the issuance of 4,411 traffic citations for vari- ous reasons, and seizure of 207 vehicles and mo- torcycles. During the campaign sev- en minors were arrested for driving without licence and referred to the concerned authorities. The General Director- ate of Public Relations and Security Information said such traffic campaigns will to protect the road users and public and private property. Woman stabbed: A wom- an who accompanied her daughter on a treatment trip to Paris, France, was alleg- edly stabbed in the head and shoulder by her bedoun hus- band over a family dispute, reports Al-Rai daily. According to informed sources, the wife left for Paris with her bedoun hus- band, an employee of the Ministry of Defense to treat their six-year-old spe- cial needs daughter, but a dispute between them happened and the suspect stabbed her with a knife. The sources added the husband was arrested and detained at a local police station in Paris for one month and then referred to the court. The sources add- ed, the wife was hospital- ized and the child was taken care of by a Kuwaiti fam- ily in Paris and then handed over to her relatives. The Department of Over- seas Treatment affiliated to the Ministry of Defense of Kuwait said the military at- taché at the Kuwait embassy followed up the incident and the case was handed over to the Kuwaiti consulate to follow up the case with the French authorities. The sources said the incident is an individual case and can hap- pen anywhere in any country. However, the sources called on people who apply for overseas treatment to respect the laws of the land. Maid rescued: Three brothers came to the rescue of their Ethiopian maid who was being attacked by one of their siblings, reports Al- Rai daily. The daily added, the sus- pect hit the maid in the face and neck. After the brothers report- ed the incident to the Opera- tions Room of the Ministry of Interior, police and para- medics rushed to the spot, arrested the brother and gave first aid to the maid. They found two packets of heroin plus Shabu on him during the precautionary search. ‘Murder, suicide, drug addiction’ Violent crime on steep rise: report KUWAIT CITY, Oct 28: Statistics is- sued by the security systems revealed that more than 1,000 crimes of violence and aggressive behavior were recorded in the last 10 months including 40 mur- ders and attempted murder crimes, re- ports Al-Qabas daily. The daily obtained a copy of the sta- tistics which showed that eight murder crimes were recorded in January and the victims were citizens and expatri- ates. Security sources said the Interior Ministry will soon announce new pro- cedures and plans to reduce murder crimes, in addition to the needs of se- curity systems. Sources pointed out that spread of violence in schools is the main factor behind committing crimes, especially in the intermediate and secondary grades. Sources stressed the need for the concerned authorities to conduct a thorough and intensive study to iden- tify causes of the problem and ways to deal with it. The latest statistics also revealed that some individuals committed sui- cide due to psychological disorders or drug addiction. Liquor at doorstep: Officers from Ahmadi Investigation Department arrested an Indian, who works as delivery driver in a restaurant, for selling local liquor, reports Al-Rai daily. While patrolling in Mahboula, the officers suspected the Indian who was driving an old car, so they asked him to pull over and checked his identifica- tion card. Anti-fraud officer from the Criminal Investigation Department testified that the two defendants were promoting fake notes with the help of some Asians who were promised a fair share once they had circulated the fake notes in the market. Lawyer Ena’am Haidar representing the second defendant pointed to lack of incriminating evidence and inconsistency in the statements of the officer who arrested the suspects, and thereby requested invalidation of the investiga- tion. Meanwhile, the Criminal Court acquitted an Asian expatriate and four other compatriots of stealing foodstuffs from a company van at a parking lot in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area. The Public Prosecution Department charged the suspects for breaking the windscreen of a company van to steal foodstuffs. Two of the suspects are without residence permits In defense of the first suspect, Attorney Esmat Al-Kharboutli argued that procedure leading to her client’s arrest was illegal due to the lack of evi- dence. ‘Dow’ hearing today: The Criminal Court on Sunday will hear the petition of the government against the Public Prosecution’s decision to dismiss the case known as ‘Dow Chemical’, in which the defendants are officials in the oil sector. Previously, Public Prosecutor Justice Dhirar Al-Asusi decided to dismiss the petition presented by the Fatwa and Legislation Department which request- ed to hold accountable those involved in causing the State to lose $2.5 billion through the agreement between Kuwait’s Petrochemicals Industries Company (PIC) and US Dow Chemical Company. As reported by various news agen- cies, an arbitrator ruled that Kuwait’s State-run chemical company must pay Dow Chemical Company $2.16 billion for wrongly canceling a planned plas- tics joint venture in 2008. The International Chamber of Commerce’s International Court ruling against PIC is final, binding and believed to be one of the largest ever arbitration awards according to Dow’s law firm – Shearman and Sterling LLP. And, Administrative Court on Sunday will announce its verdict on the lawsuit concerning three points between Al-Arabi and Al-Kuwait sports clubs. The court rejected the Public Authority for Sport’s petition, which was presented by the Fatwa and Legislation Department, against a lower court’s ruling to award three points to Al-Kuwait against Al-Arabi in one of the matches played in the last season’s Viva Football League. Comp for victims: The Court of Appeals has ordered a Kuwaiti man and an insurance company to pay joint com- pensation of KD 130,000 to another Kuwaiti in his capacity as the father of a minor (victim of a traffic accident who sustained serious injury that led to his permanent disability). Lawyer Zaid Al-Khabaz filed the lawsuit on behalf of his client and demanded payment of all expenses, including the cost of medical vehicle to transport the victim and a lifetime sala- ry starting from date of incident, in addition to KD 500,000 mental and material compensations. He accused the first defendant of reckless driving that caused his client to smash into a concrete barricade through which passengers in the car sustained various degrees of injuries. He explained the victim became uncon- scious due to the impact that led to his permanent disability, and he was admit- ted to the Intensive Care Unit until his recovery. Hunt under way Kuwaiti ‘missing’ in Syria KUWAIT CITY, Oct 28: The Kuwaiti Interpol has circulated the photo of Kuwaiti Al-Kasar Ahmad Bader Suliman Ahmad, belived to be 38 years old, on the ‘Yellow Bulletin’ who has been missing in Syria since 2004, which means the person will be listed as ‘missing’ until he is found, reports Al-Rai daily. A number of Islamic MPs several years ago had demanded from the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry a de- tailed report on the fate of Al-Kasar, and of efforts were made to search for him in Syria. They also wanted to know if there were official communications between the ministry and the re- sponsible authorities in Syria, and if the Kuwaiti Embassy in Damascus had followed up the case with the Syrian authorities, and if communications and correspondence stopped during a certain pe- riod of time. It is noteworthy to mention that MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaei had confirmed in 2008 that the Syrian authorities had admitted that Al-Kasar had entered Syria, but there were no news reports about him later. The Ahmadi police have arrested four Nepalese for gambling in an open area and referred them to the concerned authorities, reports Al-Anba daily. Firefighters controlled the fire while the body of the Indian was referred to Fo- rensics. The report issued by Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD) concluded that the fire was caused by electrical fault.
