I am excited about a career in architecture. This portfolio is a collection of my undergraduate work at the University of Illinois at Chicago and I am presenting it as qualification for employment. I obtained the skills needed for the fields of architecture and design with an excellent combination of formal education and work experience. My natural artistic skills and craftsmanship were cultivated during high school working with the stage crew building stage installations and during college building models. I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend the University of Illinois at Chicago and be taught the essential skills of architecture by top local architects. I also had the opportunity to engage in freelance work and participate in renovations in the River Forest and Oak Park area. My work experience at the UPS store in Oak Park has taught me how to service clients. I am very proud of the feedback I have received from my employer and clients for excellent performance. I have even volunteered at the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust. I am confident I can make a contribution to your company and make the community a better place. Thank you, Christopher P. FLOATING TRANQUILITYUIC ARCH 465SPRING 2013

Culture and the arts define communities, and the goal for my proposal was to create a structure home to two distinctive spaces where local artist could work, socialize, and present art. A lower, public garden and sanctuary open to the side walk, and a gallery which brings such tranquility inside solidity. Taking influence from Rick Joy and then adjusting both form and program to context, the structures 2nd floor copper façade invokes this idea, a discovery similar to that of opening and finding crystals in an igneous rock. The vegetation, present in both spaces, brings attention to the public space, while the almost floating copper structure above acts as a shelter for both the patrons below and the art kept inside. Each are open to allow for a multitude of activates to be accommodated year round, from open painting to ice sculptures in the lower level, and art shows to lectures in the upper floor.

Through a variety of formal studies, this multi-use building has plenty of balcony space for views of the cities skyline, all while having sharp edged façade facing the Kennedy Expressway.

DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH UIC ARCH 366 SPRING 2012

FISSURE Christopher Wilson ARCH 366

In my early stages of deveoping a form for the Harold Washington Library I did several formal strategies of subtraction and addition in order to understand the relationship between solid and void. The result was a series of “spikey” openings that created an array of angles and ramps. Each study produced a unique“fissure” which would seperate the structure yet unites people together into the void of the space. The fissure existed everywhere within the structure, allowing it to be a sorce of circulation and communicationthroughout the whole structure. The Fissure can be seen as an abstract form which is both static and dynamic. It moves and changes its position, becoming apart of the circulation, auditorium and the reading room.It streches and expands, often touching the facade. It is an open core for the buildings public area, a funtionalart form, and a center for learning and exploration.

Let’s remove the old Harold Washington Library and make a new library where the central circulation space stands out and becomes a contemporary work of art.

STAGE INSTALLATIONUIC .................................................. ARCH 206SPRING 2011

20

This was a collaborative project where we were given the task to create an installation for a stage performance. The installation had to have a functional purpose of being able to change based on scenarios of the play, where actors could move different pieces into place. Based on the limits we were given, we created a wooden miter cut wall comprised of an array of simple pieces. The combination of linear and diagonal miter cuts allowed for multiple, fractal appearances where actors could build, move, hide, or disassemble the entire installation through the course of the play.
