Brits are suffering a crises in condenc

in the workplace, research has revealeBRITISH employees are suffering from a widerange of confidence issues in the workplace,according to new research by Feel GoodContact Lenses.

Unsurprisingly, presenting to large groupsof people in the office (52 per cent) or publicspeaking (46 per cent) are their biggest fears.

The most startling statistics uncovered inthe research relates to employees’ poor rela-tionships with their bosses and their abilityto ask for holiday time and a bigger salary.

More than a third (35 per cent) of respond-ents said they lack the confidence to ask for apay rise, and 25 per cent fear asking their linemanager for time off in lieu.

Other confidence related issues in connec-tion to their jobs include ‘afraid of puttingown ideas forward’ (32 per cent), while client

meetings create the fear factor for 29 per cent.A further 27 per cent worry about working

closely with their superior on a daily basisand 19 per cent worry about working as partof a team.

One in five (21 per cent) believe that theyare seen as ‘a push-over’ and 11 per cent feelthey have had extra work dumped upon themby their line manager.

The results not only reveal a range of  job-related fears that impact their levels of confidence but also concerns in connectionto their jobs that also threaten to hold themback in their careers.

One in five (20 per cent) have failed to se-cure a new job because of their lack of theirself belief.

And 14 per cent of those questioned felt theyhad missed out on a promotion due to a lackof faith in their own ability.

The sample considers a wide range of confidence boosting tactics when communi-cating with others and getting ahead in theworkplace.

Appearance matters and first impressionscount given that 30 per cent said ‘power-dress-ing’ often helps.

Walking tall and keeping your head-held-high (21 per cent), improving posture (19 percent), wearing make-up (21 per cent) or swap-ping glasses for contact lenses (11 per cent)were also common tactics cited by respond-

ents that helped them boost confidence whencommunicating at work.

Respondents were asked the same questionin relation to a pay rise and time off with 33per cent saying that smiling often resulted inthem getting ahead in the workplace.

More than a quarter (27 per cent) saiddressing smarter was the key to confidentlypersuading their boss, while 20 per cent willvisualise success to pluck up the courage toappear more confident before approachingtheir line manager for a pay rise or time off.

Reaching work-related goals is seen asanother way professionals improve their

confidence while demonstrating success to asuperior.

A fifth (20 per cent) of respondents said theythink about completing projects and to-dolists once a day for this reason, while ten percent focus on their immediate targets fivetimes a day.

With more than a quarter (26 per cent) of respondents believing that confident peopletend to be better performers at work, positiv-ity and optimism is clearly important. Thismeans that by trying out some of the tacticsidentified in the research, workers couldpotentially further their careers.
