Arkansas Highlights

• Arkansas’ corn planting advanced significantly in the week ending April 12. Planting progress is currently estimated at 51% compared to 27% last week. However, frequent rains mainly in the northeastern counties of the state continue to keep planting progress behind the five-year average pace of 58%.

• Rice and Grain Sorghum planting continues to lag the average pace as well. Rice planting progress is estimated at 21%, up from 6% the previous week. The average pace for the week is 27%. Sorghum planting progress is estimated at 14%, up from 6% the previous week. The average pace for the week is 29%.

• Winter wheat development is slower than normal with 7% of the Arkansas crop heading as of April 12, compared to the five-year average of 24%. The overall condition of Arkansas’ wheat remains mostly favorable with 53% of the crop rated “good” or “excellent”.
