There is something to get excited about as we start the count down to the Christmas Lights Switch-On Event in Lutterworth Town Centre, as this year sees a whole new set of bright and colourful lights go on show for the very first time.

Lutterworth Town Council listened to what people had to say and therefore renewed the Christmas Lights, following a tender process, to provide a whole new focus to the Town with all the Christmas colours you would ever want to see. To make them even more appealing they are highly efficient low consumption lights which ensure electricity consumption is reduced by more than 80%.

The highlight of the Big Switch-On evening will be our own television star from the BBC’s The Voice, Kate Read, performing live on stage just before the Switch-On followed by a truly excellent fireworks display.

It all happens on Friday 30 November 2012, with on stage entertainment starting at 6:00pm, the Christmas Lights Switch-On at 7:30pm, with a firework finale to end the event by 8:00pm. BBC Radio Leicester will be on stage throughout the evening to guide us through the schedule and keep the party moving along.

The main A426 Leicester Road will

be closed to through traffic from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, with a diversion in operation around the Town. Residents only access will be in place, however there will be no vehicular movement in the Town Centre except for emergency access.

It is definitely an eveningnot to miss.

As of March 1st 2012 we can now accept card payments.

Autumn is now upon us and we offer you another seasonal recipe for you to try. This month why not try the glorious Venison Casserole making great use of the fresh meat and seasonal vegetables available. It’s just what you need before curling up in front of the fire as the nights get darker and colder. Maybe you could pick up a nice bottle of wine from the Lutterworth Wine Fair to have with it.

If you don’t feel like cooking, you could always take advantage of one of our voucher offers this month. Skylark Fields Farm, Shuckburgh Road in Staverton, Daventry (NN11 6JY) is offering two lunchtime meals in the cafe for £10.00, Monday to Friday throughout November. Its well worth the journey – their food is fabulous (whether you eat in or buy from their shop)!

Fancy an evening out with the family instead? Why not wrap up in your woollies and head to the

town centre on Friday 30th. The Christmas Lights Switch On starts at 6.00pm with lots of entertainment culminating in a firework finale at the end of the evening. What a great way to start the festive season!

If you have any events you would like our readers to know about, please get in touch and we will do our best to include them. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for regular messages, reminders and offers.

Remember to always mention AROUND LUTTERWORTH magazine when responding to adverts and offers!

Enjoy!

Seasonal Recipe

Venison Casserole

Place the venison in a bowl and pour over the wine. Add the juniper berries and bay leaves, cover and marinate in the fridge for 4-5 hours or overnight. Remove from the fridge 1 hour before starting to cook the casserole.

Preheat the oven to 150ºC/300ºF/Gas Mark 2. Strain the venison from the red wine (reserving the wine). Heat half the oil and butter in a large flameproof casserole dish and fry the venison in 2-3 batches until browned all over, adding the rest of the oil and butter when necessary. Remove the venison with a slotted spoon and set aside.

Add the onions to the casserole and fry for 6-7 minutes until golden, adding the garlic after 3 minutes. Sprinkle over the seasoned flour and fry for a further 1-2 minutes. Gradually stir in the wine and stock and bring to the boil, scraping any sediment from the base of the casserole.

Add the venison, parsnips, carrots and half the thyme sprigs to the casserole and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Cover and cook in the preheated oven for 1½ – 2 hours until the venison and vegetables are tender.

Remove from the oven and stir in the redcurrant jelly. Return the casserole, uncovered, to the oven for a further 20-30 minutes. Serve garnished with the rest of the thyme sprigs and with creamy mashed potato, if liked.

Serves 6Ready in 2.5 hours

(plus marinating)
