Summer Hair Care - Professional Tips & Tricks! Each month Denise Cleary from Salon One shares professional haircare and styling tips.

Top Styles for Autumn 2012Each month Denise from Salon One shares professional haircare and styling tips. This month she’s gathered together the hot trends from the worldwide catwalk shows and presents the top styles for autumn (or “fall” as the New Yorkers call it).

What’s happening on the catwalk inevitably sets the trends for the high street and the round of fashion weeks in London, Paris, Milan and New York are key influencers.

The New York show in February – which presents the Fall/Winter 2012 collection – was particularly hair-inspiring this year, so here’s our round up of the styles that top designers used in their shows, and which we’ll be seeing in their advertising campaigns in the coming months.

Pony tails are always a favourite; this season’s ponytails are long and straight, usually gathered at the nape of the neck, and low down, replacing the crown ponytails of previous years. Hair was prepped with serum to prevent frizz and add shine, then flat-ironed into sleek curtains.

The most on-trend look from Chanel and Dior uses strands of hair twisted around the ponytail to secure. Easy to do yourself; simply secure the hair in a covered band, hook out a small section and twist around the band, securing ends with pins underneath.

Bouffant went retro at the shows, and stylists rolled and tucked hair under for extra dimensions. Many styles used sparkly ribbons or simple bands to emphasise the volume.

Ballerina buns Simple, neat and timelessly pretty, buns were worn at various heights in the McCartney and Vuitton shows; easily created and can be accessorised with flowers, diamante clips or pins for a special event.

Dip dyes The pastel shades of spring/ summer were replaced by a whole host of dip dyes, with Prada using strong contrast red to blondes, and black white combinations. (Tip – When planning a dip dye style, consider how the colour panels will work when your hair is up!)

Plaits and braids were out in force, with romantic over-the-head plaits at Mulberry, twisted at Fendi and plaited as buns from Marc Jacobs.

However you choose to wear them, make sure the braids are smooth and securely fastened. Again, lots of designers chose to secure the plaits with a twist of the model’s own hair, so that no ribbons were on show.

Low-volume hair – lots of designers chose low-volume styles – with no lift or back-combing – to balance ornate outfits and accessories. Stylists achieved matted-down looks by pinning sections of hair against the head to emphasise a sleeker silhouette.

Hairbands were opulent and jewelled, making the most of sleek, shiny hair and – for Dolce and Gabbana – completely replacing any other jewellery for maximum impact.

Big Apple to Rugby? So, will the influences of the Big Apple make it to the High Street of Rugby? It’s people like you who wear the styles and create the trends, so be inspired and decide whether it’s Prada dip dyes, Chanel ponytails or Fendi twists for you this season.

Enjoy a girls’ night out with a difference this month

at our 2012 Moonlight Walk. The event is taking

place on Saturday 15th September and this year

for the first time men are invited to join the fun – as

long as they dress as ladies!

The 8-mile walk starts and ends in the grounds of

Warwick Castle and begins at 9pm. Walkers can

join in a warm up in the grounds before hand as

well as enjoying the party atmosphere. As we are

celebrating 30 years of The Myton Hospices this

year, we want to make it a real celebration and aim

to have the area’s largest street party so we hope

you will either follow in the tradition of wearing

your PJ’s , nightwear or put on your best party

outfit!

We want to raise £60,000 from the walk and this

year you can either register and raise sponsorship,

give a donation in lieu of raising sponsorship or

even register and organise an event to raise some

money instead.

Please tell all of your friends and family and sign

up now and really make a difference to people’s

lives. Registration costs £10. To sign up visit

www.mytonhospice.org or call 01926 838831.

If you have any queries then please get in touch

by calling us on the same number. Don’t drag your

heels! Sign up today!

It’s Countdown time to the Big Birthday Give!!

We want everything in our anniversary year to be

bigger and better than ever before and the House

to House collection is no exception!

Collections form a really important part of

our fundraising because they allow people

to give as much or as little as they like in

the knowledge that when added together

the donations will make a real difference to

people’s lives. We would love to hear from you

if you can spare a few hours to help us.

You can choose where you collect – either

within your own street or neighbourhood, or

somewhere else in the area. You could even

do it as part of a team through your school,

organisation or work place.

We will provide you with all the resources you

need, including envelopes and an ID badge.

We will then ask you to place collection

envelopes through the doors in your chosen

area on a day of your choice, and then return

around a week later to collect the envelopes

back in.

Last year we raised nearly £10,000 in this way,

which is a fantastic amount…but we can’t

do it without you! You can take part in House

to House until the end of October. For more

information, please contact Sheila Hornsby on

01926 838809.

On behalf of everyone at The Myton Hospices,

thank you for your continued support.
