Artistic ambitions realised An overseas residency was a career-making experience for UniSA contemporary art graduate Tamara Baillie.
During her studies, Tamara was awarded the $25,000 British School at Rome Residency from the Helpmann Academy – a South Australian organisation that provides professional development opportunities for emerging creative practitioners.
Based in Rome, Tamara spent three months working with artists, historians and archaeologists to develop new ideas and expand her creative practice in sculpture.
“This experience gave me space to think about my longer term goals and how to achieve them. I was able to focus on my practice, while also having a wide range of influences and inspirations. The combination of time to think and research, plus meeting some amazing people from all over the world, really pushed me into places I couldn’t have imagined.”
Tamara primarily works in sculpture and installation and continues to explore personal and collective narratives around identity and memory through her art.
DESIGN THE FUTUREChange the way we view and interpret the world
through a degree in design. Learn to have a positive impact on people’s lives by designing products like
mobile phones, toys, or solar cars; illustrate and animate games, movies, or books; or create visual
identities for websites, apps, or brands. Specialise in an area of your choice including product design, graphic
design, illustration and animation, or game art.

“Our graduates are highly sought after, and they leave not only with the right skills, but also with a
hunger for knowing more about how their profession
can better shape the built environment. Personally, this is a very rewarding job. It’s the everyday lightbulb moments and when students make large shifts in their understanding about design that really make my day.”Andrew Wallace | Program Director: Bachelor of Interior Architecture
