CAKE COUNTERWayne Theibaud[1920 – ] Currently lives in Arizona. He is an American painter widely known for his colorful works depicting commonplace objects, landscape & figure paintings.

Which cake would you choose here?

What colors are repeated in the composition?

The background is a plain light neutral color that helps us see the cakes better.

OLD WOMAN PRAYINGNicolas Maes [1634 – 1693]He was born over 380 years ago in Holland. He is best known for his story-telling scenes, which he often painted with deep velvety contrasts of light and shade.

This old woman is seen praying before she eats the food on the table.

The kitten must be smelling something it would like. What do you think the kitten wants?

Do you see a slice of fish and some bread?What other carefully painted details can you find?

POULTRY MARKETWalter Williams [1920 – 1998]is a painter, printmaker, and sculptor who was born in Brooklyn, New York.

This painting shows the window of a market that sells chickens, turkey, and eggs.

Do you see the scale?

Do you think that the artist has a sense of humor because he made the shapes the same on the boy’s hair and the rooster’s tail?
