Arts and literacy come together for a fun and engaging series of evenings. Each night features a themed presentation by one of San Diego’s premiere cultural institutions and an interactive art project from Young Audiences. LITERACY AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE FOR KIDSLearn vocabulary words, finger spelling, common everyday words, and conversational skills. Discover the importance of facial/body language and be exposed to aspects of deaf culture.

AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE Parent and Me, Ages 3 and underBabies and Toddlers can learn to communicate with their parents before they can speak! Sign language is an effective approach to introduce the concept of language to children at an early stage in development.

PICTURE ME READING!Grades K - 3A six-week program for beginning and struggling readers that teaches the critical sight words necessary for reading success. Dr. Marlys Isaacson’s unique “Picture Me Reading!” method rapidly increases word recognition, fluency and self-confidence. Permission to enroll based on reading assessment. PERSONAL & SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT

FREE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS The Family Resource Center collaborates with local organizations to provide FREE educational classes. These classes are scheduled on – going throughout the year. Call the Family Resource Center at 619.269.1430 or e-mail [email protected] for current information on dates, times, and locations.

ENGLISH AS ASECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) The Family Resource Center offers ESL classes in collaboration with Laubach Literacy. Free child care is provided for participants and incentives are provided for course completion. This course is offered twice a week, every week.

LIFE OPTIONS Life Options provides an opportunity for individuals age 55 and over to remain positively engaged in their communities while exploring educational, social and volunteer experiences. For current information call 619.269.1540 ARTS & CRAFTS CLASS Enjoy sewing, crafting, jewelry making, knitting, crocheting, scrap booking and more. Bring your own projects to work on or purchase materials to make the projects demonstrated in class. Learn how and why crafting can help to keep your brain fit and your mind sharp.

PRACTICAL THEATER CLASS A senior theater class taught by a professional through San Diego Community College Continuing Education. Students are given scripts, pair up, and do rehearsal homework. For beginning and intermediate level actors.

BRAIN FITNESS The Brain Fitness Program Is a workout for the brain featuring six computer- based exercises. The exercises target roots of cognitive function that improve processing speed, working and narrative memory and sound discrimination, precision and sequencing. COMPUTER BASICS Learn the basics of computer hardware and software. A basic class to acquaint you with skills that are used in most computer programs. Classes are 6 weeks long- call (619)269-1540 for session dates. $15 fee for materials

CPR/FIRST AID TRAINING

American Red Cross CPR & First Aid 16+ Learn Adult, Child & Infant CPR, First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) usage. CALLING ALL TEENS! SATURDAY GAMING All AgesCheck out the latest video games for the PS3 and Wii or hang out with friends while playing a variety of board games.

TEEN NIGHT Ages 13-18Enjoy Teen Night every 2nd and 4th Friday with Kroc Church. Each month will feature a different theme such as games, cooking, media, etc.

ROCK THE TALK!Ages 13-18This course will inspire teenagers and build confidence in speaking. After this class you will feel more comfortable speaking in front of small groups, large audiences, and one-on-one interviews. BALLET I Students explore basic ballet steps while also learning rhythm and coordination.

BALLET II Continue learning basic ballet steps and terminology while improving poise, rhythm, stretching and coordination through more advanced ballet combinations. *Previous experience or instructor approval required.

BALLET III Ages 10-14A more advanced version of Ballet II, studentscontinue learning ballet combinations, rhythm, stretching and coordination. *Previous experience or instructor approval required.Session Fee: $130 Members/ $150 Guests

BALLET/JAZZ COMBOBeginning ballet and jazz taught through the use of imagery and repetition. The dancer will learn dance positions and terminology; while increasing their coordination, strength and flexibility. Dancer will also increase spatial awareness.

BALLET/TUMBLING COMBO: Ages 3-5Children will learn basic ballet steps. They will learn to improve coordination, increase body awareness, learn left and right, and have fun at the same time

OTHER DANCE STYLES

BROADWAY BABIES Ages 4 - 8 Have fun learning techniques to improve natural acting ability. This is a great introduction into the world of singing, dancing and acting for stage; and a wonderful place to learn self-expression! HIP HOP FOR TOTS Ages 3-5 Tap those toes and stomp those heels! Tots interested in tap and hip-hop instruction come check out this class. The first half hour is focused on tap and the second on very basic hip-hop moves. See what magic your little one’s can create!

HIP HOP(Beginning & Intermediate) Ages 8 - 13 Students will be taken on a wonderful journey with all the latest Hip Hop moves.

PILGA 18+This class is a Pilates Yoga mix that will focus on stretching, physical rehabilitation from injuries, genetics, and even daily stress. This class is great core work and strength building.

JAZZ I Ages 6 - 10Dancers will learn jazz terminology as well as rhythmic accents, turns, jumps, and choreography. Practice the pattern of center warm up, core strengthening, center stretching, across the floor turns, and jumps.

JAZZ II Ages 7 - 12Dancers will learn jazz terminology as well as rhythmic accents, turns, jumps, and choreography. Practice the pattern of center warm up, core strengthening, center stretching, across the floor turns, and jumps.

SING, SIGN, BOOGIE! Ages 2 - 4Start up that little engine and get those motor skills going! Toddlers will enjoy signing with their hands and dancing with their feet. A fun way to develop coordination and language through music and play.

LINE DANCING Ages 18+ Come kick up your skirts and stomp your feet with some good ole fashion Line Dancing. We will focus on newly created line dances with traditional movements and stylized line dances that you’ll see in the Country Clubs. Boots and Cowboy Hats Welcome!! THEATER

ACTING I Ages 8-13Students will work on monologues, scenes, and performance organization. Lessons on improve, enunciation, projection, abolishing stage fright, and audition prep are also included. Students will be engaged in fun activities concentrating on working as a group which will later come into use onstage. July- August session only.

BROADWAY DANCE Ages 7-12A combination of dance styles commonly used in musical theatre. Learn musical theatre choreography and combinations while dancing to popular Broadway show tunes. Learn the movements necessary for musical theatre auditions from a professional choreographer.

MONOLOGUE/AUDITION TUTELAGE Ages 8-16 Focus on individual development as an actor/actress to enhance performance capabilities.

DANCE CREATE – A – CLASS

See a dance class listed that you’re interested in, but the time doesn’t fit your schedule? Then grab at least three friends and create-a-class! ACROBATICS I- BEGINNING Ages 8 - 15Learn basic tumbling skills while improving strength and flexibility. Skills include handstands, backbends and cartwheels.

TUMBLING I Ages 3 - 5 This structured, high-energy class focuses on basic tumbling elements like somersaults and balancing.

PAINTING FOR PLEASUREAges 9-13 and 13-18Explore colors, painting techniques and alternatives. Using watercolors and acrylic paints, the artists will become more comfortable expressing themselves.

TEEN/ADULT PHOTOSHOPAges 13 - 18Students learn the basics of Photoshop, a professional tool for photo editing and graphic design, and digital photography.

FAMILY CERAMICSAges 8+An introduction to ceramic materials and processes. Students will learn how to make figurative sculptures, molds, work with the potter’s wheel, glazing techniques, and fire clay items.Fee:$90/members $110/guests

YOGA AND ARTAges 9 - 12This class will be a combination of yoga moves and making art. The first half of each class we will do yoga, the second half will focus on an art project, using different materials and a new concept each time.

MY SHAPES MAKE ART Ages 5 - 8Learn the basic essentials of art by using well-known shapes to create each piece with painting, drawing, and mixed media techniques. Each session has a different theme. Session Fee: $60 Members / $80 Guests
