RIT traces its roots back to 1829, as the Rochester Athenaeum, a reading society. The Athenaeum merged with the Rochester Mechanics Institute (founded 1885) in 1891. Existed to train a skilled workforce for Rochester's industries such as Kodak, Bausch & Lomb, Xerox, etc. Renamed the Rochester Institute of Technology in the 1940s.6When did RIT move to Henrietta?Imagine the leadership team making these decisions in those times.
