Twelve teams par- ticipated in total - six from India, two from Australia, one each from Great Britain and Ireland, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Pakistan. The festival was organised by the Rotary Club of Vapi, District 3360, which is home of the current Rotary International President Kalyan Banerjee. At the time of the tournament India was pronounced Polio Free for 1 year, so the organisers were keen to celebrate this massive milestone. Some of the visiting Rotarians had the opportunity to visit two special proj- ects which had been instituted by Kalyan Banerjee and PDG Vishnu Patel with their own money in the early 1970s. The private school and the public hospital had each started in a small way and grown now to be major insti- tutions endowed to a large extent by generous local Rotarians. Many items were offered for sale at the auction with the standout items be- ing cricket bats. One of these was signed by Sir Donald Bradman and the other was signed by Mark Taylor, former Australian captain, and Bradman. In all over USD $25,000 was raised for local charities. After the festival, Jeff and Donna went on a tour of India; I’ve posted some photos on the next page. Looks like they had a great time. Jeff told us that Donna had quite a few boyfriends while over there, one of whom turned up to their hotel door to get some details so he could come stay with them in Australia!

7TH WORLD CRICKET FESTIVAL Vapi, India

Jeff Stephenson entertained us with stories from his recent trip to India for the International Fellowship of Cricket Loving Rotarians. His team the Austra-lian Echidnas, affectionately called the ‘Spiny Pricks’ by the Indians, trav-elled from all over Australia to compete in the event. Twelve teams par-ticipated in total - six from India, two from Australia, one each from Great Britain and Ireland, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Pakistan.

The festival was organised by the Rotary Club of Vapi, District 3360, which is home of the current Rotary International President Kalyan Banerjee. At the time of the tournament India was pronounced Polio Free for 1 year, so the organisers were keen to celebrate this massive milestone.

Some of the visiting Rotarians had the opportunity to visit two special proj-ects which had been instituted by Kalyan Banerjee and PDG Vishnu Patel with their own money in the early 1970s. The private school and the public hospital had each started in a small way and grown now to be major insti-tutions endowed to a large extent by generous local Rotarians.

Many items were offered for sale at the auction with the standout items be-ing cricket bats.

DISTRICT 9465 & PR - TELLING YOUR ROTARY STORY

DG Jodie has been working hard in the District to ensure both a good retention rate of members and recruiment of new members. The district has a strong PR committee who have worked along side DG Jodie to increase the methods in which our Rotarians can share/tell their story.

Two facebook seminars have been held to show Rotarians how to tell their story using this medium. The seminars were a success, shown by the increase in the number of clubs having an online pres-ence.

The district successfully applied for an RI PR Grant to allow the district to have standard marketing that the clubs could utilise. They have put together some promotional materials for Clubs in our dis-trict to use within the community to promote Rotary and the great work we do.

All 51 clubs have been given a ‘PR Kit’, which contains Posters, DL Brochures & a ‘What is Rotary’ card. (See below for samples).
