4100ES Fire Alarm System Technician Training

Assessment OverviewThe Purpose of this Handbook

This handbook contains your formal assessments for this course. During eachassessment, you have the opportunity to demonstrate core competencies that proveyour capabilities working on a 4100ES Fire Alarm System.

    Grading

Grading is done on a Competency Score Sheet (contained at the end of this book).

The Competency Score Sheet lists critical skills necessary to pass this course. The sheet also specifies the opportunities throughout the course where you candemonstrate your ability to perform these skills (e.g., Assessments 2-2 and 4-1).

You have more than one assessment opportunity to demonstrate some competencies. You may only have a single opportunity to demonstrate other competencies.

Note: You are not assessed on any competency that you have not had time to practice. Once you have demonstrated the ability to perform a competency, your instructor

initials a box on your Competency Score Sheet to indicate this accomplishment.

You must demonstrate your ability to complete ALL core competencies to become aCertified Technician on the 4100ES Fire Alarm System.

At the end of each assessment contained in this handbook there is a supplementalworksheet that contains the following three columns:

    1. Task The action you perform to complete an objective. For exampleDownload CFIG

    2. Milestone Your goal. For example, Successfully Downloaded CFIG

    3. Customer(s) Each assessment task you perform directly benefits one or morecustomers. These customers include other technicians and/or inspectors back atyour District Office, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), your Customer

which could include their IT department, and/or their Contractors. These customers are the groups who will assess you back in the Real Worldwith questions such as:

    Did you perform satisfactory work?

Was the work done correctly? Was it done right the first time?
