Well the end of the year is fast approaching. Don’t know where the time has gone, it seems like just yesterday that we were celebrating the new years and here it is almost time to put your costumes on and do some trick or treating. This is my favorite time of the year. Watching all the Charlie Brown shows from our local TV station (not a DVD). It’s just not the same watching these shows on DVD. I remember waiting during the week for these shows to air on TV, the joy
that built up as I waited patiently for the day to come when as a family we would sit down and watch these shows. Although we do have the DVD’S in our house, I won’t let the kids watch them until we have watched then on network TV. And yes the Hallmark Channel, Jen has me so hooked on these shows, we watch them every weekend together. I am not sure this is normal for a guy to like these shows but I do. So I just probably told you all too much just then when adding the Hallmark Channel Movies into this. :-) Well onto some ASPE stuff. I know that I have let my guard down to all of you.
The 2014 ASPE Monte Carlo Night (ASPE's 50th Anniversary Celebration) The 2014 Monte Carlo Night is just around the corner. November 1st is the big day, if you have not already bought your tickets by the time this article comes out it will be too late. The location is the Sportsman Lodge Events Center at 12833 Ventura Boulevard Studio City, CA 91604. Come join us for an evening of dancing and playing your favorite casino games. The party starts at 6PM.It should be a blast. Tons of prices to be had for all. I don’t think you will be disappointed in the gifts that we have for the event. We will have an open bar for three hours, so if you decide you and your date want to let your hair down (well at least one of us in my case) you can get a room at the hotel for the night and not

The ASPE LA PicnicWe would like to thank everyone that came to the picnic. I have to apologize to everyone for not showing up myself. Jen and I had a night out with friends and no I didn’t have too much to drink. I started to get sick from food poisoning late in the evening and spent the rest of the night and a good part of the morning... well you know. So I wish I could have been there as I understand everyone had a great time. I would like to thank Ron Bradford and his loyal group that puts this event on for us each and every year. Jeff will have pictures in the newsletter for those of you that don’t have a Facebook account. For those of you that do have a Facebook account I would suggest you visit our site as I am sure we will not be able to put everything in the newsletter.
The ASPE LA Orange County Golf TournamentYes we have a place and time for the event. The date is May 1st 2015 at Westridge Golf Club in La Habra, CA. I know it’s a little early but we got a late start this year and

With new national lead-free legislation
taking eff ect in 2014, there’s been a lot of talk
about making the switch. Here’s the truth: T&S was
the fi rst fi xture, faucet and fi tting manufacturer to
convert its entire line to lead-free alloys back in 2010.
So when you purchase a T&S faucet today, you’re
already lead-free compliant. No worries. No hassle.

Design (CPD) designation. To be eligible to take the CPDT examination, a candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering with one year of experience designing plumbing systems, or an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a field related to engineering and a minimum of two years of experience designing plumbing systems, or four years minimum of plumbing design experience. The first exam for this new program will be held at testing sites across the country on November 20 and 21.
Latest news from the Plumbing Engineer Publication, Vol. 42, No. 10, October 2014In Designer’s Guide, Timothy Allinson wrote about Ever Growing Demands”. What I like to share with you all is the growing demands put upon consulting engineers, but engineering fees have not gone up commensurate with these demands. It is true, you need to read his article.
The other interesting topic is “Hot water system temperatures and the codes” by Ron George. He mentioned that a lot of misquoting of the plumbing codes when it comes to hot water system temperatures and hot water system controls. There are a lot of people that think the model plumbing codes address domestic hot water system maximum storage temperature. In fact, he was not aware of any model plumbing code that
addresses minimum or maximum storage temperatures. A lot of plumbing engineer are misinterpreted the Codes. Another one what I like is the minimum temperature of hot water to prevent Legionella bacteria growth - The minimum temperature to prevent Legionella Bacteria growth is 122°F. Above 122°F and up to 131°F, Legionella bacteria survives, but will not multiply. At 131°F, it takes about 5 to 6 hours for the bacteria to die. At 140°F, the bacteria dies in about 32 minutes. At 151°F, the bacteria dies instantly. I recommend reading this.
That is all for this month. Once again, if you have attending the ASPE 50th Anniversary Celebration in Chicago, please share the experiences with us.
Do not hesitate to e-mail any board member for any particular topics that you may want to see in any of our technical programs. Also check our Technical Calendar for upcoming Technical Sessions. See you all at ASPE LA Chapter 50th Anniversary Celebration & Holiday Party, Sportsman's Lodge Hotel, Studio City.

The 2014 event celebrated 50 years of advancing plumbing engineering, with 25 technical education sessions as part of the Convention and the ability to earn up to 19.25 hours of continuing education for participation in the full event program. The Exposition included 301 companies across 67,500 net square feet, as well as the New Product Innovation Showcase, allowing attendees to learn about the latest industry innovations directly from experts.
"NTP has been working with ASPE as their show management partner since 1987," said Andrew Ortale, NTP Executive Vice President. "They are our longest-standing client, and we enjoy the deeply-rooted, collaborative nature of our relationship. We are proud to share and celebrate their continued success in growing and elevating the value of their great event."

MEMBERSHIP REPORTJohn ZagorskiV.P. Membership
I have no new members to announce at this time. Remember we do not have a regularly scheduled dinner meeting for November as we have our 50 year Monte Carlo Night Celebration on Saturday November 1st at the Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City. I’ll see you all there! We also hope to see you all at our next dinner meeting on Wednesday December 3rd at Monterey Hill Restaurant in Monterey Park.
The Founding Chapter, our Los Angeles Chapter needs your help! Our membership has dropped over the last couple of years from around 210 down to 183 and I’m sorry to say this is not the way to get us to another 50 years in existence. I am still running the new member program wherein if & when you sponsor or mentor a new member and bring them to our dinner meeting with a filled out application & payment, the chapter will pay for both of your dinners for that night! Who ever passes

up a free meal? My personal thanks to all who have taken advantage of this program in the past, please keep the cards & letters coming!
The Society is very concentrated on getting the younger engineering community involved in ASPE as the average age of our membership base nation wide is 57. Time for all of us old guys & gals to start mentoring our younger counterparts to get involved & engaged in our organization to ensure we will be around another 50 years!
Should anyone need a current membership application, please do not hesitate to contact me as your VP Membership @ [email protected]. You’re also welcome to call @ 562-556-7575.

The doctor calmly responded, "Now, settle down. You'll just have to be a little patient."
