MULTICULTURAL COMPETENCE TRAINING IN FAMILY VIOLENCE CONTEXT (COMING UP
THIS WEEK) The Office of Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship has funded VICSEG and InTouch Centre against
Family Violence to deliver a series of 2-day training programs in metropolitan and regional Victoria.
The training will enhance capacity within government departments and community services to
respond appropriately to women and children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Cultural Competence training was recommended by the Royal Commission into Family Violence. The
experience of family violence in culturally diverse communities is complex and requires an appropriate
mix of tailored prevention and early intervention strategies to be adopted. This includes strengthening
the capacity of ethnic community organizations to identify and respond to family violence.
This training is fully subsidised and commences on 29th -30th November for maternal and child health
nurses, refugee health nurses and midwives.

MOVEMENT & MINDFULNESS CLASSES Ongoing movement & mindfulness classes allow kids the time and space needed to 'decompress' in
a fun, friendly and social environment while giving them the skills to develop increased attention-
ability, self-regulation, personal resilience and happier outlooks.
Students and teachers are given the tools to have more attention-ability and self-regulation, joy and
success in their classrooms and their lives for as little as $7/student.
As the founder of The Sequoia School, I create these results through energetic and engaging weekly
Movement & Mindfulness classes that satisfy Victorian Curriculum and Equity funding guidelines. I
delivered this program as a pilot in 2016 and I'm excited to share it with schools in 2017 with the
new addition of FREE meditation classes for teachers and parents too.
In this program, students, teachers and classroom aides all work together as a team to learn new
ways to breathe, how to be more aware of their minds and bodies and how to control them in fun
and upbeat individual, small group and whole class exercises. A student workbook records each
participants’ experiences and gives us great quantitative data for your individual program/funding
report.
What will The Sequoia School do for your school?
Save teachers' time & reduce report writing stress; our programs are curriculum compliant, providing progression point observation opportunities, and we've found that investing time to start a school day with mindfulness means less time spent chasing attention throughout the day
Complement and concrete your social and emotional learning programs with opportunities for practical applications
Page | 16
Create empowered ambassadors for self-control, self-awareness and success; students who complete The Sequoia School program become awesome role models for their school communities
Give students and teachers the tools to have more focus, attention, self-control, cohesion and joy in their classrooms
Empower students (and teachers!) to be more in control of their emotions, actions, decisions and futures!
The program can be run for 4-11 weeks, or I am happy to customise another approach to best suit
your school's time and financial budgets. Above all, I am passionate about helping students and
teachers be the most successful possible and the research is piling up to show how mindfulness can
achieve this.
Available for bookings from single session trials through to full term or school year commitments,
and I'm happy to offer a FREE trial class (in 2016) to allow students and staff to see how awesome
these classes are!
Please see the attached and www.thesequoiaschool.com and get in touch to discuss how we can
work together.
