Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for our media product is extremely wide. Romantic comedy is a genre that reaches many people due to it being light-hearted, easy to enjoy and something everyone can relate to and understand.

Women• Stereotypically women enjoy romantic comedies

as they consist of a happy ending and ‘enjoyable to watch’ characters therefore, our film will automatically appeal to the majority of women, all ages. Peter is enjoyable to watch as his flaws (e.g. ‘geekyness’ and lack of social awareness) are evident and therefore we find him funny, also this makes us feel good about ourselves as we are looking at what others do wrong. Also, couples of all ages enjoy watching romantic comedies as they can understand some points of the relationship stages, and maybe have experienced it themselves and laugh about it together.

Men• Men have been known to watch ‘girly’ films as

they feel this may help them with understanding a ‘woman’s mind’ and therefore will help them in their own love life if they feel they know what women want and expect from a man. In our product we see the character of Peter who is unlucky in love, from the film men can also learn what they may be doing wrong or what they can improve on.

• Romcoms can also be known to be a guilty pleasure for men and a chance to get in touch with their feminine side and therefore they may be interested in watching it.

How does it relate to our Target Audience?•Our film relates to our Target Audience as

we know romcoms always end with a happy ending, this attracts women as the storylines seem to end up with the perfect romance which most women want. This ideology is what women imagine their lives to turn out like, or they want something like this to happen to them.

Dating Websites.•This attracts a younger audience as

dating websites have become a big thing of our generation and are things that are advertised almost everywhere therefore they are something they can relate to.

•However, this could rule out the older generation of our audience as dating websites are something they are unsure about and no so much aware of, or understand. Reducing the universality of the piece.

How did you attract/address your audience?

•Music - The song was made in 2007 which reflects our modern day love story. The ‘indie rock’ genre of the song is also most popular amongst the younger generation we feel is the main section of our target audience as the characters that are portrayed in our piece are of the age that would be listening to this style of music. The music we use in the film is upbeat and reflects the ‘feel good’ nature of the film which links into the idealist view of relationships that is shown inmost romantic comedies. Even though the music juxtaposes the piece, it could show that something exciting and happy is about to come, and would therefore keep the audience interested and watching.

•Setting – The settings we used adds to the universality of the piece. This is because the places we used were adult, such as bar and an upmarket café. This may also attract a more middle class audience as we have used setting which do not really link to a working class family’s life.

•Actors – The actor and actresses that we used in our piece would attract a younger audience, most likely between the ages of 18-24 as the actors were young meaning that this age range would be more likely to relate to them as the style and equate of relationships has changed over time.

•Costume – The costume that the characters wear in this opening suggests that it could be aimed at a younger audience, around 18-24. This is because the brands that are used and style of dress is very informal when people who are older would be expected to be dressed more formally for a date. The use of brands and more style conscious costume decisions would mean that the film would be more likely to attract a female audience as they are known better for being interested in fashion rather then men, who stereotypically are not.
