Anyone who’s participated in the Professional Cowboy Association’s rodeos must admit that the PCA features the

best bucking animals in the Southeast. This is thanks to their diligence in seeking out the best stock contrac-

tors in the business. Brett Woody and his company, Bar W Rodeo, are among the PCA’s most committed stock

contractors and have a long history of award winning animals.

Bar W Rodeo is a family owned and operated company based out of Hayesville, North Carolina. For over 30 years

of business, the rodeo company has bred a host of top-quality bucking bulls and bucking horses. Woody has held

the reigns of his family’s company since 2008, and has seen the business grow each year. “We’ve gone from hav-

ing six or seven rodeos per year in the early days to having around 18 now,” he says.

Like many who join the PCA, Woody grew up around stock and developed an interest in rodeo at a young age.

In high school, he rode bulls and saddle broncs, establishing an interest in the riding/bucking sports that his

company excels in. He also participated in

college rodeo at Oklahoma State.

After sustaining an injury and returning

home to North Carolina, Woody received an

offer from his cousin to buy the family

rodeo company. “I knew that I wanted to

do it eventually,” he says, “but I was young

at the time. I was about 22 years old when

I bought the company. It happened sooner

than I thought.”

Now, Bar W Rodeo supplies the PCA with

some of the hardest bucking, high-per-

forming stock in rodeo. “I always want to

bring good stock to the events,” he says.

The stock contractor has raised multiple prize winning animals, including PCA Bucking Bull of the Year from

2008 to 2011, 2011 Saddle Bronc of the Year, and most recently, the 2012 Bareback Horse of the Year.

The key to Bar W Rodeo’s excellent stock is the commitment and attention they have to each animal. They own

all their stock, never renting for an event. “We breed and raise them all,” says Woody. “The quality of a horse

has a lot to do with how they’re bred, so we pay attention to that. You have to have a good bloodline.”

With the award winning bloodlines in Bar W Rodeo’s stock, riders can expect a premium challenge. “These horses

are bred to buck,” says Woody. “When they show up, they put up a good show.”
