Dear Friends in Glasgow, This last Thursday, my wife and I sat on the stage on Great Falls and I was inducted into the Montana Coaches Hall of Fame. As I sat there, I thought of all the people I need to thank. I would like to thank 36 years of close friends and colleagues. Then theres all those mentors that taught me so much; and all the assistant coaches that gave me good advice and became close friends. But most of all: the hundreds of Glasgow athletes that I coached. This award was only possible through their hard work, sweat, sacrifice and some pain. I was always proud of all of you and it was a pleasure to have known you and coached you. And also, a thank you to all the parents who trusted me with their kids. There are tears between the lines but they are tears of joy for 36 good years. You all share this honor and for that I sincerely thank you. ~ Coach John LaBonty

  • OBITUARY

Gisela (Dought-sour) Dotzauer Brooks, also known as Gigi, 76, of Glasgow, Montana passed away from cancer Thursday, July 23, 2015, during the Hour of Mercy in her Glasgow home. This is where she wanted to meet The Most Merciful GOD, with her daughter Lura by her side in her last hours. Gisela is survived by her loving husband, William J. Brooks; her sister, Brigitte and her daughter; her youngest brother, Peter, all still living in Germany; her two children, James and Lura and her three grandchildren, Whitney age 28, Aaron age 27, and Christopher age 21. Gisela was the 2nd of youngest of 3 brothers and 1 sister. She was baptized Catholic. Their family name was Dotzauer. Giselas parents and their six children were refugees from Sudetenland (an area of Czechoslovakia) a Country which was absorbed by the Czech Republic when they were invaded by the German Army at the beginning of WW II. Many people fled from that country as it was invaded by the Germans, and most ended up in West Germany. They were known as Volksdeutsch (immigrants), and later became naturalized German citizens. Giselas family ended up in Kempten, Germany in the (Al-gow) Allgau District in 1945. They were a poor and struggling family throughout their childhood. She attended High School in Allgau until she was 17. She then moved to Munich, Germany in 1957 to work for an American family as nurse maid. She met Leo Gentry, a young handsome soldier in 1959 and were married. He was in the Army. She had her first son, James, in February of 1960. They were transferred to (Gee-son) Gissen, Germany then back to the U.S, were she gave birth to her daughter, Lura, in Shreveport, Louisiana in March of 1962. Gisela obtained her U.S. Citizenship in 1965 and the family returned to Germany. After her divorce from Leo, in 1972 Leo, the children and

Gisala Brooks his new wife, Karin, also from Germany, came back to the U.S. Not many years passed and she longed for her kids, so later Gisela came to the U.S. to sunny California, but missing home terribly. And soon after living in California by herself she met and later married William J. Brooks, an Air Force retiree on March 19, 1988. They moved to Rialto California, then Banning California and later settled to the peaceful hills of Glasgow, Montana in 2000. She and William have many friends here who loved her dearly. This is and always will be Bill and Gigis calling, here in beautiful Montana. Always remember Giselas laugh, kindness and her beauty.. she was so beautiful inside and out! Most importantly..know that she is no longer suffering or in pain, and is at Peace. Gisela is with our Creator, whom she trusted and loved unconditionally!A special thanks to all her doctors, nurses and staff in Billings and here at FMDH for their wonderful care during her final days. Another special thanks to her wonderful friends and neighbors who came to see her at home and say goodbye. I thank you all for your support during this very difficult time. Visitation will be August 4, 2015 at Bell Mortuary, Glasgow, Montana from 2:00 5:00 p.m. A celebration of life will be held August 4, 2015 at the VFW Hall in Glasgow, Montana at 5:00 p.m. Memorials can be made to Paralized Veterans of America, P.O. 921, Wilton, New Hampshire 03086-0921 or Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Raising chickens from egg to market has become a real opportunity for Valley County youth. Support from the Farm Bureau Foundation provided 15 youth from 10 families a birds eye view into raising animals, chickens in particular. The objective of this project to bring animal experiences to youth who did not have the opportunity to raise chickens themselves. 4-H Leader Donna Pankratz set eggs in the incubator at Valley View last March in hopes of a successful hatch 21 days later. By offering a series of educational workshops at Valley View, youth and residents were able to gain knowledge in embryology, the basics of baby chick care and experience the anticipation and thrill of watching a fragile, tiny chick crack its way out of its shell. From the incubator stage the chicks progressed to a warm environment where interested area youth became responsible for their care. Donna continued hosting programs for the youth to learn the parts of the bird, nutritional needs of chickens, how to wash a chicken and showmanship techniques. Each family made the commitment to care for the chicks one day a week and now each member looks forward to showing their animals Monday afternoon at the Northeast Montana fair and selling a fryer at the 4-H Market Livestock Sale. The project began as the brainchild of MSU Extension Agent Roubie Younkin and the cooperation of the

Farm Bureau Foundation grant makes youth poultry project a reality

Valley County Fairboard and County Commissioners. Dale Plumbing donated supplies to build chicken feeders and Gene Hartsock was instrumental in building a chicken pen on the fairgrounds. This facility provides a safe environment for the chickens and a learning lab for the youth involved. This curriculum provides life skill development in decision making, responsibility, teamwork, science, record keeping and financial management. This year the members experienced raising meat birds which grow very fast resulting in a meat producing bird with broad breasts and big thighs. The youth learned about feed efficiency in the rapid growth birds which will yield a five to eight pound fryer. As an added attraction, Donna set another incubator of eggs in early July and those eggs are hatching now in the 4-H Quonset at the Northeast

Montana Fair. The public is encouraged to come down and share in the excitement of new life, watch the poultry

show Monday afternoon or participate in the action of the auction Tuesday at 3:00 on the fairgrounds.

Keeli Harris and Matte Swindler enjoy the youth poultry project.
