Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Program forCollege Diploma Applicants

1. General Policies and Practices

Admission requirements for entry into Bridge Program:Graduates from two- or three-year college diploma programs with an overall 'A' averagewill be considered for admission to UOIT's BCom (Hons) Bridge Program.

Admission requirements for entry into year three:To proceed to the third year of the UOIT BCom (Hons) Program, students must achievean overall'B' average in the five courses of the prescribed Bridge semester.

Credit transfer and credits to be achieved at UOIT:In the Bridge Program at UOIT, students who have successfully completed a two orthree year diploma program at an Ontario Community College with an overall 'A' averagewill be considered for admission to the Bridge Program. If those students achieve anoverall'B' average in the five courses of the prescribed Bridge semester, they will beawarded 7.5 transfer credits from their college studies to apply to the required 20 creditsfor the BCom (Honours) degree. The remaining 12.5 credits must be earned at UOIT;this includes the 2.5 university credits earned in the Bridge semester.

Anticipated normal schedule of student progression:It is expected that the normal schedule of student progression will include a collegeprogram (for a minimum of 4 semesters), then university for 5 semesters, for a minimumtotal of 9 semesters.

Credential to be granted on successful completion of all required components:Upon successful completion of all required components, graduates will have earned atwo or three-year diploma in their selected discipline. followed by an Honours Bachelorof Commerce degree from UOIT.

The chart which follows identifies the program learning outcomes of UOIT's BCom(Hons) program and the courses in the Bridge Program that contribute to theirachievement. Since students will have graduated from a variety of college programs, itis not possible to identify specific courses which may contribute to the discipline-specificlearning outcomes; however, it is likely that college courses will, in varying degrees,support the acquisition of transferable skills. (See outcomes 15-21.)

Individual students' selection of general business electives and business specializationelectives will also have an impact on the extent to which certain outcomes are

developed.

Note: Each of these courses is 3 credits. These courses are the same as thoseincluded in the regular BCom (Hons) Program which received Ministerial consent inJanuary 2003.

Students must successfully complete all 5 courses with an overall 'B' average in order tobe eligible to enter the third year of study in the Bachelor of Commerce Program.
