Helping Road Accident Victim

What do you do when you encounter a road accident victim lying on the road? If you decide to help the victim, you may use the following procedures. First gently tap on his shoulder and talk to him. If he responds, calm him down. Then, call the ambulance for further treatment if necessary. If he fails to responds, call the ambulance immediately. Next, check if he is still breathing. If there is any sign of breathing, wait for the ambulance. Otherwise you need to do a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to save the victim’s life. However, it is important that you know a proper way to administer CPR before helping the victim to ensure that the victim’s life is not jeopardised.

PART 4 ; READING AND NOTE-TAKING Read the article and answer the questions below Dolphins are mammals, not fish. They are warm blooded like man, and give birth to one baby, called a calf, at a time.

At birth, a bottlenose dolphin calf is about 90-130 cms long and will grow to approximately 4 metres, living up to 40 years.

They are highly sociable animals, living in groups, called pods, which are fairly fluid, with dolphins from other pods interacting with each other from time to time.

Dolphins carry their young inside their womb for about 12 months. The baby is born tail first, and its mother will feed the calf for up to 2 years.

However, the calf will stay with its mother for between 3-6 years, during which time it will learn all about feeding techniques, social interaction and group hunting.

Shanti : Dr. Hamid, over last few years, may people have begun to take a risk of Hepatitis

Seriously. What exactly are the risks of this disease?

Dr. Hamid : Well, Hepatitis B is a highly infectious disease that can easily be spread through

the body

fluids of the carrier. The risks posed by this disease are rather alarming, as it is

responsible

for over 80% of the incidences of liver cancer. In fact, these diseases result in two

million

deaths annually.

Shanti : What about Hepatitis A, Doctor? Is it dangerous as Hepatitis B?

Dr. Hamid : Well, Hepatitis A is definitely more common in Malaysia but I would say that it is

not as

dangerous as Hepatitis B. The disease is usually transmitted through

contaminated foods

and drinks. It is more prevalent in areas where sanitation is poor.

Shanti : What can one do to avoid getting this disease?

Dr. Hamid : Well, the obvious protection is vaccination. In fact, it has been included in the

pediatric

vaccination program for children. Vaccinations provide protection against the

disease and in

some cases, booster are recommended after 10 years.

Shanti : How does a person know that he is suffering from hepatitis?

Dr. Hamid : Okay. The obvious symptoms of both Hepatitis A and B include fever, aches and

pains, vomiting and chills, and sometime a flu-like symptoms like sore throat, nasal

congestion and headache.

My hobby, or pastime, is photography. I own a manual film camera but would like to buy a digital camera.I have been interested in photography since my father introduced me to his favourite hobby. I remember being given my first camera at the age of 11. I felt very grown up owning my own camera! The first photo I took was of a deer at our local zoo.

I currently study photography at an evening class in the local art college. I studied GCSE photography a few years ago but wanted to learn more skills and improve my craft. On my course I am learning how to develop film and photographs in a dark room. I prefer black and white photography to colour. I am also learning about famous photographers and the types of images they liked to take.

In the future I would like to buy a digital camera. However, they cost a lot of money so I am saving hard. I also want to buy a computer as I'd like to print my photographs and show them in an exhibition.

I am submitting this report to give an account of the accident that happened on the 10th of

January 2005.

Mr Maniam, the driver, took him to Hospital Ampuan Rahimah, Klang immediately.

He also suffers from bruises to his left shin.

Unfortunately, the shelf could not support the additional weight of the boxes and as a result, it collapsed and fell on Ramli. He works as a store operator at the Store Department.

The straps used in packaging are too thin and weak.

He was given immediate attention and treatment by Dr.Rana.

Ramli was placing 4 big boxes containing RX machine spare-parts on the shelf in the store

room.

Details: Manap is a new staff. He started working with our factory four days ago. He was operating the packaging machine when he encountered some problems with the machine. At times, the machine gets stuck. This machine has been in bad condition since yesterday. Suddenly his fingers got stuck in the machine. A few people rushed to him when he shouted for help. They switched off the machine. They also tried to take off his fingers but to no avail. An operator called me and I rushed to the place. I could see his fingers were already under the machine. We could not save his fingers. I called an ambulance. The ambulance arrived 25 minutes later. Manap was sent to Hospital Ampuan Rahimah Klang. Currently, he is in orthopaedic ward (ward 5). According to the doctor, he will be released from the hospital approximately after a week.
