Sparky

Rocky

Rigby

is a very friendly, happy 3-year old lab/border collie mix. He is neutered,

vetted, up to date on shots and weighs 60 lbs. He's playful and very bright, eager to please, and loves to learn.

Sparky is good with cats, female dogs, and many male dogs. He often greets people by sitting down and giving his paw. Sparky would be best with an

active family.

is a 6 year old spayed female. She’s very sweet, but timid, and needs TLC to help bring her out of her shell.

Rocky is Rigby’s new friend and they bonded very quickly. We would love to see the 2 of them get adopted together - it would be a 2 for 1

adoption fee.

is a big, 3 year old tiger cat. He's laid back and affectionate. Rocky is Rigby’s

best friend and they bonded very quickly. He is a super affectionate, cuddly boy and has really helped

Rigby come out of her shell. We would love to see the 2 of them

get adopted together.

THE END HAS come upon the four corners of the land! Now the end is upon you, I will unleash my anger against you and judge you according to your conduct and lay upon you the consequences of all your abominations. Ezechiel 7:2. On the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall, the light of the moon will be like that of the sun and the light of the sun will be seven times greater like the light of seven days. Isaia 30:26. Therefore I gave them statutes that were not good, and ordi- nances through which they could not live. I let them become defiled by their gifts, by their immolation of every first born, so as to make them an object of horror. Ezechiel 20:25-26. Christian, rec- ognize your dignity and now that you share in God’s own nature, do not return to your former base condition by sinning. Remember who is your head and of whose body you are a member. Never forget that you have been res- cued from the power of darkness and brought into the light of the Kingdom of God. St. Leo the Great. Sermo21 in nat. Dom, 3: Pl 54, 192C.

Volunteers Needed for Malta’s CERTMALTA – Volunteers are needed to join Malta’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Local governments pre-pare for everyday emergencies; police, fire, and EMT depart-ments all have their procedures in place. But when a disaster hits they can be overwhelmed. This is when CERT is called upon – not to respond on the front lines, but rather to help out by supporting our first responders. The CERT program will give you basic emergency training. In this training program you will learn: How to perform fire suppression for small fires; CPR; Basic first aid; Search and Rescue; and much, much more! Even if you choose not to join CERT, please consider taking the free course for the valuable knowledge you will gain. The next CERT Training class will begin on Tuesday, September 25, 7pm and will continue for the next four Tuesday evenings. There is no fee for this course! To register for this free CERT Training Class please call the Community Center at 899-4411, or register on-line at http://activenet.active.com/maltadeptof-parkandrec. Stars for Our TroopsCAPITAL REGION – Stars for our Troops is a grassroots or-ganization that is growing fast across the USA. We take re-tired American Flags with embroidered 2 inch Stars, remove the Stars, put the Star in a pouch with a statement the reads: “I am part of our American flag that has flown over a home in the U.S.A. I can no longer fly. The sun and winds have caused me to become tattered and torn. Please carry me as a reminder that You are not forgotten.” The Stars are given freely to any soldier or veteran that we meet, or are mailed to them. Stars are given to Veteran Homeless Shelters so those Veterans know that we respect them and they are not forgotten. Stars are given to our Wounded Warriors as a Thank You for what they have endured. Stars are given to our Veterans in Nursing Homes and Veteran Hospitals. Volunteers are needed to help create these Stars. Families and friends need to contact us so we can share the Stars with their loved ones. Donations are gratefully accepted to help deter the costs of supplies and postage. More informa-tion can be found at www.StarsForOurTroops.org or contacting [email protected]. (A)

Albany, NY (July 31, 2012) –Do you have a love for animals and want to support a great local cause? Join with the Gold-stein Auto Group and bring your empty bottles and cans to a Goldstein dealership and support the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society’s “Empties For Animals” campaign helps support the mission of the organization, includ-ing sheltering, adoption, education, advocacy and the preven-tion of cruelty to animals. This year’s goal is to raise $125,000, in honor of the Society’s 125th Anniversary. To reach the goal, the Goldstein Auto Group will need to collect more than 1,500,000 cans and bottles. The 2012 "Empties For Animals” campaign has raised over $46,000 during the first half of this year, an increase of $12,000 or 34% over the same period last year. The 2011 campaign raised a total

of more than $74,000 and collected 925,000 cans and bottles. Volunteers sorted all those bottles and cans, based on the originating distributor, which in turn generated $.08 per can or bottle instead of the regular $.05 redemption fee paid at stores. Monies from the program were used to benefit the more than 6,500 animals cared for by the Society in 2011. “We are very pleased to continue our partnership with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and support the 2012 “Empties For Animals” campaign. We would like to thank all of our custom-ers and the members of the community who have generously donated to such a worthy cause,” said Alan Goldstein, President of Goldstein Auto Group.

Our world has certainly gotten a fall feel to it now that temperatures have returned to normal for this time of year. Those lingering warmer days earlier in the week kind of fooled us into feeling that summer was going to go on forever. Now we know it ain’t so and we’re getting the idea that we need to pay attention to the tasks of autumn.

There’s one little task you need to do this time of year that can make a huge differ-ence to the health and vigor of your lawn for years to come. I consider this task to be THE most important aspect of lawn care and it is also the one that most folks blow off for some reason. I’m talking about performing some pH tests on your lawn. Checking your soil’s pH will let you know if you need to apply lime (pulverized limestone) to counteract acidity and it will also let you determine how much you need to apply. I think most people blow this important step off because it sounds complicated or “scientific” or perhaps they feel that they’ve done enough for the lawn once they’ve applied their grub control and fall lawn food. I’m here to tell you that, if you never check your soil’s pH and correct it, your lawn will eventually thin out, moss will start to take over and you’ll be off to buy moss killer and more and more lawn food to try to restore it. On the other hand, if you DO keep the soil’s acidity level near neutral, moss won’t take over and you’ll need less lawn food to have the nicest lawn in the neighborhood. Liming is inexpensive and is the “ounce of prevention” that can save you a lot of money and frustration over the years. Here’s the deal:

Over time ALL soils gradually become acidic. Rotting grass clipping, leaves and other organic debris contributed to soil acidification. Even the lawn foods that you put on the lawn helps increase the soil’s acidity level over time. Acid rain has a hand in the process as well. Acidification happens more quickly in sandy soils than in clay based soils. Acidi-fication of soil is a natural process and many plants actually prefer soil that’s slightly acidic. Unfortunately grass isn’t one of them.

As the soil becomes more acidic, the bacteria and other microscopic organisms that dwell in the soil start to die off. These are the organisms you grass needs to convert naturally occurring nutrients (or nutrients that you apply in the form of lawn food) into forms that your lawn’s roots can absorb. Acidity also impedes osmosis or the ability of the lawn to absorb moisture and nutrients from the soil. If you’ve ignored soil pH for several years, you may have the impression that your favorite lawn food isn’t working as well as it used to. This is due to increased acidity of the soil. You’ll probably find that, if you correct the pH of the soil, you’ll not have to feed you lawn as often.

But why, you may ask, is it so important to apply lime in the fall? Why not wait until spring? After you’ve applied the proper amount of lime, it will take at least two months for the lime to react with the soil. By applying lime in the fall, you’ll give it all winter to have a chance to react with the soil. You could wait and apply it in spring but you won’t get the benefit from your application until halfway through the growing season. If you’ve never applied lime to your lawn before, I’d recommend that you test and apply lime this fall and then test the soil again in spring to make sure you’ve gotten the correction you needed.

Those of you who cleverly avoid raking fallen leaves in fall by mowing them into the lawn with a mulching mower should be aware that your lawn will become acidic more quickly. Regular pH testing and more frequent lime applications will be necessary to keep your lawn thick and healthy. Generally, once you’ve corrected the lawn’s pH, you shouldn’t need to apply lime for three to five years depending on your soil type. Considering how important, easy and inexpensive maintaining proper soil pH is, I’m amazed at how many people ignore it. Thanks for the read.
