From Fr Bernie The Word of God for Today: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity is a doctrinal feast, that is, it does not commemorate an event in the life of Christ (his baptism, transfiguration, resurrection, ascension, etc.) but celebrates a teaching of the Church. In one sense the mystery of the Trinity is more than we can bear (John 16:12); unable to comprehend it, we assent to this teaching in faith. 'Faith' here refers to an activity of the mind. The second reading from Paul's letter to the Romans considers faith from a different perspective. For Paul faith begins with hearing the gospel, the good news that 'while we were still sinners Christ died for us' (Rom 5:8) and this same Christ 'was raised for our justification' (Rom 4:24). When one hears this good news, one accepts the lordship of Jesus and dedicates oneself wholly and entirely to Jesus Christ. This personal relationship with, and dedication to, Jesus Christ is 'faith'. It is personal, it is vital, it is entire. Such a commitment to the person of Jesus has astonishing results: it leads to salvation/ justification. Elsewhere Paul says, 'if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved' (Rom 10:9). In this solemnity's second reading the opening line summarises Paul's teaching to this point in Romans: 'by faith we are judged righteous'. To be 'justified' is to be put right with God; the first and most obvious result of being justified is that 'we have peace with God'. Though faith is our response, this peace comes, not from our response, but 'through our Lord Jesus Christ.' Salvation is entirely Christ's work. Christ's work, in turn, is the fulfilment of the Father's plan (Eph 1:1; 3:11). By faith we have access to this grace, that is, it is an unmerited gift. Such an unexpected, unmerited, and otherwise unobtainable gift (salvation/justification) gives hope of attaining 'the glory of God'. In the meantime endurance in the life of faith is made possible 'through the Holy Spirit which has been given us'. (Taken from Liturgia) Offertory Giving. As we approach the end of the Financial Year our thoughts turn to money matters such as income, expenditure and tax. Planned Giving envelopes, for those who use them, are available for you to collect. All financial support of priest and parish is very important and appreciated and all who receive an income are welcome to participate. If you would like to be one of this parish’s Planned Givers please contact the parish office or mention it to me. Planned giving can be done by using envelopes or by Direct Debit or Credit Card. Forms are available at our parish churches. Refugee Week (1622 June). By coincidence our Feastival Week is also Refugee Week. Refugee Week is Australia’s peak annual activity to inform the public about refugees and celebrate positive contributions made by refugees to Australian society. Refugee Week provides a platform where positive images of refugees can be promoted in order to create a culture of welcome throughout the country. The ultimate aim of the celebration is to create better understanding between different communities and to encourage successful integration enabling refugees to live in safety and to continue making a valuable contribution to Australia. Welcome to the Parish Feastival. Our parish is blessed to have two churches, Holy Trinity and Corpus Christi, named after two liturgical feasts that are celebrated on Sundays that are a week apart. This enables us to have an octave of celebrations of thanksgiving. This week, June 1623, is set aside to celebrate the many facets of parish life, in particular our multi-cultural identity. We begin and end the octave with an acknowledgement of the multi-cultural nature of our parish congregations at Holy Trinity, Banyo and Corpus Christi, Nundah. The acknowledgement takes the form of A Procession of the Nations today at Holy Trinity church and at the beginning of the 9.30 am Mass at Corpus Christi church on Corpus Christi Sunday (June 23). If you would like to take part in the Corpus Christi church procession next Sunday would you put your name and country of origin on the form at the church door so that an image of your flag can be prepared. During the octave there will be two talks by Br. Damien Price cfc on Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation Gaudete et Exultate (Rejoice and be Glad). The talks will take place on Monday and Tuesday (June 17 & 18) in Holy Trinity church, Banyo at 10am and repeated at 7pm. The devotion of Eucharistic Adoration is a blessing for our parish. Parishioners are invited to join the rostered adorers on Wednesday and Thursday of the Feastival week. Confirmation of young parishioners will be celebrated on Friday June 21 at 5pm in Holy Trinity church and 7pm in Corpus Christi church. The Feastival concludes next Sunday after the 9.30 Mass at Corpus Christi church with a national Food and Entertainment Festival in the St. Joseph school grounds and Nolan Hall. Let us celebrate and enjoy our multi- national gifts. Plenary Council Announcement Pentecost Sunday (June 9) The Plenary Council 2020 moves into its next phase of preparation today with the announcement of the National Themes for Discernment that emerged from a historic process of listening to the voices of more than 222,000 people. Our prayerful good wishes to the families

The Holy Father’s Intentions for June Evangelization: That priests, through the modesty and humility of their lives, commit themselves actively to a solidarity with those who are most poor.

The month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Stewardship “But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth...” (John 16:13)

Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to help us know and live the truth.

To prepare ourselves, we need to open our hearts to receive this gift before we can give it. Develop a daily prayer

routine. Talk and listen to the Holy Spirit. This is best done in silence, when we can hear His response.

A Vocation View

A VOCATION VIEW: Human beings establish lasting loving bonds. But the Trinity shows us

perfect love: you, God and neighbour. There’s nothing more than love. Love is the Trinity’s

vocation.

Prayer for Vocations Loving God,

With one voice we lift up our hearts to thank you today for our lives,

our vocation and all your gifts to us.

Inspire us all to know and live our vocation. Give courage to young people,

to listen and follow the call, to serve you in the Archdiocese

as your prises, religious and lay ministers.

Bless us, your family of Brisbane. Help those who you call to listen

To what your Holy Spirit is saying to us.

Guide them to serve in your vineyard, that they may fulfil your holy will and

make all things new.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Safeguarding Policy

The Archdiocese of Brisbane holds that children, young people and vulnerable adults are a gift from God with an

intrinsic right to dignity of life, respect and security from physical and emotional harm.

They are to be treasured, nurtured and safeguarded by all.

This means that everyone in the church must ensure that the fundamental rights of children, young people and

vulnerable adults are respected.
