Category: Arenas and Conference Centres Created on Friday, 18 September 2015 14:00

The rare opportunity to utilise Barbican Theatre, which is currently hosting Lyndsey Turner’s production of ‘Hamlet’ starring Benedict Cumberbatch, has

become available for commercial events to take over the space in Spring 2016.

“It is very rare that an opportunity to use the Theatre for a commercial event comes about,” said Jackie Boughton, Head of Sales at Barbican Business Events.

“Barbican Theatre is always in use for outstanding productions so these dates offer a real chance to create something that will be memorable and fantastic. The Theatre

space is extremely sought after and will give any event a unique feel.”

Barbican Theatre has acoustics that match the needs of international theatre and dance companies and offers the ideal setting in which to host events such as conferences,

AGMs, presentations or award ceremonies. Seating 1,156 people, it is an intimate space with no seat located more than twenty metres from the stage and excellent sight lines

for all delegates attending an event.

A private registration and catering area is also included in the hire of the Theatre. The available dates are 7th-11th March and 11th-16th April 2016.

“We fully expect that the opportunity to hold an event at Barbican Theatre will attract plenty of interest,” added Jackie. “If it’s good enough for the stars of stage and screen

then I am sure it will be perfect for a business looking to achieve something quite special.”

As a buyer or supplier of corporate hospitality, how do you know if you’re breaking the law?

The Bribery Act introduced new guidelines, together with new criminal penalties for non-compliance and its jurisdiction is worldwide. Hospitality to prospective clients now needs to be 'reasonable' and 'proportionate' and the only defence in law is to ensure you have an internal compliance system in place before the hospitality event takes place. Delegates and clients will be given the opportunity to learn about the fascinating history of the Barbican alongside their

event with specialist packages created by the Business Events Team, which include tours of the iconic building.

Opened by The Queen in 1982, who declared it ‘one of the modern wonders of the world’, the building is seen as a landmark in

terms of its scale, cohesion and ambition. Its stunning spaces and unique location at the heart of the Barbican Estate has made it

an internationally recognised venue, set within an urban landscape acknowledged as one of the most significant architectural

achievements of the 20th century.

The tours, which are available throughout the year, cost £11.50 per person and can be fitted in and around events to suit delegate

timetables.

“The tours are very popular and they offer something a little different for event organisers,” comments Oliver Hargreaves,

Barbican’s Deputy Head of Sales. “The Barbican is completely unique, and the story of its fascinating history leaves delegates

with a real sense that they have been a part of something quite special. The tours are a great way to inspire and give delegates

an engaging activity alongside the event that they are attending.”

There are two choices of tours on offer at the Barbican:

• Architecture Tour - A 90-minute walking tour of the Barbican to discover the history behind the building and the surrounding

Barbican Estate, considered one of London’s best examples of Brutalist architecture. From concrete styles to architectural motifs

and insightful facts, the Architecture Tour will leave attendees looking at the Barbican from a fresh perspective.

• Backstage Tour – A 75-minute tour discovering the unseen backstage spaces of the landmark Barbican Theatre. Starting at the

stage door, delegates will wind their way through the dressing room corridors, up the state-of-the-art fly tower, down to the stage

to see the latest production set before ending in the Barbican Conservatory. The Backstage Tour is subject to availability.
