    WHO?

    The Baroque movement started in 1600's Italy until 1750. The word Baroque comes from the Portuguese phrase for 'Mishapen Pearl'.

    Baroque included scary, dark and religious art as well as architecture, sculpture and music.

    Baroque spawned some of the world's greatest art, from painters such as Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Rubens and Bernini.

    Some of the qualities of Baroque Art are grandeur, sensuous richness, drama, dynamism, movement, tension, and emotional exuberance. Paintings are often dark and graphical. The development of the Baroque style was closely linked with the Catholic Church.

    The Baroque on its journey towards England, made some stops in Brussels France, Spain, South America and The Netherlands.

    Baroque went out of popularity in 1750, closely followed by the classical movement (neoclassisism). However, its painting are still selling today, with a privately owned self portrait due to sell for approx 15 million pounds!
