PROPOSALThe idea that I posed was to produce a non-digital game about BAR-TENDING that would allow anyone of any skillset to learn the basics about being a Bartender. The basics are drinks, recipes, keepings tabs, and making tips. I also want it to be marketable; the projects of similar ideals are very cheap and seem very campy, I’d like to produce a piece that is polished and looks like it costs a pretty penny. The ideal scene for this game is an upscale club, very sleek, very high-end. In todays world, there are so many different ways to learn how to bartend, why not have one that you can keep at home and have fun with. I want to also make this game not so much just educational, but fun as well; I want this to also be a fun drinking game that you could play with your friends and have a memorable night. Doing this would require an expansion of course for a different deck, due to the fact that people at home will not have the shelf liquors that a bar would, so the game will have to be adjusted for this style of play. Also this game is marketed at +18, which is an aim to educate children who are of legal age of alcohol and how it works, there are rules, even though it seems like just fun and games. The goal here is more of a revolutionary thing, the argument is the the legal drinking age in the United States is 21, but why is that? Everything else is 18, we can even go to war at 18, but we cannot have alcohol, I hope allowing kids of this age to play this game would provide a nich, that alcohol is just as

dangerous as anything else we “allow” them to have at that age.

THE GAMEThis games intention is to teach players how to mix drinks, keep tabs, and have fun! There are “two” ways to play this game, one for everyone, then there is the “+21” crowd, where you can actually use the liquor; but there is no promise some-one can “WIN” the game before the night is over!

CONCEPTSThese are the concept sketches that I worked out with my

industrial design team, I knew I was going to need to enlist them to be able to achieve the board design that I wanted for my project. The concept was to have a slick board that

would be fitting of any high priced bar.

PROTO-TYPINGProto-typing consisted of just paper cutouts of the cards and

pieces with friends at my house, and my fellow designers, and due to the fact that I bartend and was working out the recipes I

didn’t have recipes written on the cards, so I had to summarize to each player how to “make” each drink. Both versions of the game were tested. There were a lot of initial issues to work out making the game bend to the concepts and designs that were designed.

The proto-typing for the most part went well because much of the core of the game was from core mechanics of regular bartending, and other games, but when adding in extra elements such as time,

and other things it really sucked and made it hard because a lot of the elements that I wanted to include didn’t work out the way I

wanted.

FINAL GAME

Bartending the board game, started as an idea; evolved over the summer, got designed in a BAR, and evolved to what its become today! A funfilled exciting board game. Every card you draw makes you think, makes you won-

der what your going to do next, what your opponents are going to do next, how the game is going to end. The process will continue because the game needs to be tweaked more. But for now it is playable and fun.

CHANGES?

With the issues that arose during the construction and pro-to-typing phase and the grand idea to begin with more time needs to be dedicated to make the project what it needs to be in completion for portfolio. Several different techniques need to be changed and some design elements need to be

re-thought out.
