WELCOME TO BASE CAMP! Base Camp, the Northern Star Council's newest facility, is an experien al educa on program offering a unique year‐round environment for visitors to engage in team building ac vi es, rock climbing, high ropes courses, archery, and more. These ac vi es are used to accomplish the mission of Base Camp;
To connect all young people to interac ve experiences that build healthy, contribu ng ci zens of character and leaders for life.
Base Camp is conveniently located in the heart of the Twin Ci es just east of the Minneapolis‐St. Paul Inter‐na onal Airport at the intersec on of MN Highways 55, 62, and 5. Visitors to Base Camp can also arrive by light rail, with the Fort Snelling sta on just blocks away. We are located next to some of the best outdoor ar‐eas in the Twin Ci es including: Historic Fort Snelling, Fort Snelling State Park, Coldwater Spring Restora on Project, Minnehaha Falls, and Minnesota Valley Na onal Wildlife Refuge!
Base Camp is a group reserva on facility, so arrangements must be made prior to arrival. Open year round, Base Camp is open to everyone in the community. All you need is a reserva on. Groups of any size are wel‐come at Base Camp. Individuals can par cipate through Open Climb and Archery programs (see page 15).
This catalog will help you plan a Base Camp adventure and understand our ac vity fees and reserva on pro‐cess. The pricing and ac vi es outlined in this catalog are intended for youth par cipants not a ending with a K‐12 school. If your group is an adult or school group or if you are interested in making a facility reserva‐on, please visit our website at www.explorebasecamp.org
In Base Camp’s first 24 months of opera on over 50,000 visitors a ended a program at Base Camp! So what are you wai ng for? Mark a visit to Base Camp on your Spring calendar and let your adventure begin!

HOW TO MAKE A PROGRAM RESERVATION At Base Camp there are program opportuni es for all group sizes and ages. Some programs are available to all par cipants while others are only available for small groups or older youth. The following pages contain all of our youth programs and are organized by:
Par cipant Age
Length of Program
Minimum and Maximum Par cipants in Program
Price per Par cipant
Feel free to complete the following worksheet before exploring the programs to help you plan your visit:
Our youth are between ________ and ________ grade.
We would like to visit for ________ to ________ hours.
Our group will have ________ to ________ par cipants.
We are prepared to pay $________ to $________ per par cipant.
Now you are prepared to explore our programs and find the right one for your group.
Once you have iden fied the program that you would like your youth to par cipate in, you must fill out a Youth Program Request Form. This form, inserted in the program catalog, can be found within the Forms tab of our website (www.explorebasecamp.org/forms.aspx). It can also be obtained by visi ng Base Camp or either Northern Star Council Service Centers. No reserva ons are made without a Youth Program Request Form.
Please include the Program ID (located in program descrip ons, just below the price for each program) and the ac vi es of your program with your Youth Program Reserva on Form to ensure proper registra on.
Other Important Considera ons:
Programs are only designed for a maximum of 70 par cipants. If you have a group larger than 70, accommoda ons can be made. Please complete and submit a Youth Program Reserva on Form with the number of par cipants and the desired ac vi es and Base Camp will try to make a program for you.
Mul ple programs can operate simultaneously. Feel free to request mul ple programs to accommodate larger groups or a diverse age of par cipants.
When making a reserva on, be certain to include adult par cipants. Many adults will a end Base Camp as a chaperone and are not assessed a fee. But adults who want to par cipate in the ac vi es are charged the same fee as youth par cipants. Adult only programs are subject to different fees; program planning should be done through our Adult Program Catalog and Program Request Form.
Programs are offered 6am‐10pm, 7 days a week, with the excep on of major holidays and lock‐ins. Program requests falling outside of standard opera on mes may carry an addi onal fee.

ADVENTURES AT BASE CAMP
Ac vity Descrip on
Space Shu le
Simulator
The Space Simulator at Base Camp is one of only eight in the country and is the only simulator like it in the Midwest! 7th graders all the way to adults will benefit from its teambuilding and problem solving lessons in a scaled replica of the space shu le cockpit. The ac vity itself can be very abstract, stressful, and challenging. But through prac ce and reflec on, the program can become very valuable in real world applica ons; especially those involving communica on and empathy.
Ice Climbing
Experience the challenge and thrill of ice climbing using crampons and an ice axe on our outdoor simulated ice towers. Using a special ‘ice foam’ par cipants can ice climb year round. If you want the REAL ice climbing experience though, we suggest November‐March for the added “chill”. Par cipants must be in the 7th grade or older.
Indoor and
Outdoor High
Ropes
Par cipants access the course in a manner similar to rock climbing, but once on the course, par cipants will traverse across an aerial obstacle course making their own safety connec ons along the way. More than any other ac vity at Base Camp, the ropes course requires a en veness and maturity throughout the program. Because of the physical and behavioral maturity required, this ac vity is only available for par cipants in the 7th grade and older.
The Indoor High Ropes Course at Base Camp is one of a kind! Not only can it operate year round, but it contains mul ple levels of challenging elements. Most of the elements are at a height of 16 . and offer just the right challenge for par cipants nervous about heights.
The Outdoor High Ropes Course is very similar to our indoor course but it incorporates all the challenges of the natural environment; sun, wind, and noise all add to the high ropes course experience. Addi onally, our outdoor course is 30 . high and increases the mental challenge of the ac vity.
Cycling Base Camp will provide bike guides to par cipants in the 7th grade or older and lead them around the many urban trails in Saint Paul, Minneapolis, Mendota Heights, and Historic Fort Snelling. Guided bike trips will include a basic safety and maintenance course at the start of each trip.
Lego
Mindstorm
Robo cs
With the help of experienced and knowledgeable Base Camp guides, par cipants in the 4th grade and older will use Lego Mindstorm robo cs kits to design, build, and program their very own robot to complete basic moving and li ing tasks. Lego Mindstorm Robo cs kits are also available to rent from Base Camp for $15/week. Users will be held responsible for any lost or broken equipment.
Archery
Base Camp’s 15‐yard, indoor archery range has five sta ons; making it a great ac vity for year‐round programming. Youth of all ages and adults will find archery challenging and fun. Archery is a skill that many youth have not experienced before; but it is a skill they can learn, and see success, in a short period of me. Self esteem is improved; as well as concentra on, pa ence, and physical skills. Par cipants may bring their own equipment, but use requires approval of Base Camp Lead Guide.
Indoor and
Outdoor Rock
Climbing
Base Camp staff will belay par cipants and provide belay training to interested adults and youth at least 6th grade and older. Harnesses and helmets are provided at no addi onal cost. Par cipants may bring their own equipment, but use requires approval of Base Camp Lead Guide.
Base Camp’s indoor, simulated natural rock climbing wall is modeled a er the St. Croix River bluffs near Taylors Falls. Sixteen routes between 24‐32 . provide a physical and mental challenge to climbers of all ages and abili es.
Base Camp’s two outdoor climbing towers offer a variety of 30 . routes providing physical and mental challenge to climbers of all ages and abili es.
Team Building
Team Building is a group of ac vi es synonymous to icebreakers, ini a ves, and low ropes course ac vi es. With over 75 ac vi es, a Base Camp guide will facilitate the team’s experience; building from simple problems to complex challenges par cipants will have to work together to be successful. Planning, self‐awareness, personal disclosure, communica on, leadership, and many other outcomes make team building the ‘bread and bu er’ of Base Camp’s programming.
Base Camp has many exci ng ac vi es for youth to experience. Whether your goals are to build stronger rela onships with one another, conquer your fear of heights, live a fit and ac ve lifestyle, or challenge your comfort zone, Base Camp can help you achieve your goals.
