Greetings fellow Beavers. We have now completed the Hula in Hemet Rally and I think everyone had a great time. Jim and Natasha Nichols along with their co-rally masters Warrens

and Cooks did a great job of keeping everyone busy. Following Hemet we attended the FMCA Rally in Pomona where we volunteered for se-curity. We had social hours every night and invited other Beavers to join us. Three new members joined BAC at Pomona. I would urge all members attending an FMCA Rally to sign up for security and enjoy the Beaver fellowship.

We are now entering the summer rally season and there are many excit-ing rallies scheduled across the country. Some are full and some have

openings. Contact the individual rally masters to find out availabil-ity or get on the wait list. We will be attending several going into Branson, and hope to see you at one of them. Beavers in Branson rally masters Lamar and Karen were able to obtain some extra spaces and now there will be 125 coaches there. It should be great.

Recently my insurance came due and in conversations with Ron at Over-land it came to my attention there are some extra discounts available. A fire extinguisher was installed in the engine compartment and the savings was about $50 per year. I also will be taking an on-line drivers course and will save around $100 per year for the next three years. This is well worth the couple of hours it will take to complete the course. Actual savings will vary by user and the state vehicle is insured in. Be sure to ask your agent about discounts available and do check with Overland for helpful advice and a competitive quote.

The monthly newsletter has been going for a few months now and has helped keep members apprised of openings in upcoming rallies as well as Beaver Gatherings. Because of the newsletters there have been a few members sign up for rallies and we had 18 Beaver couples at a gathering in Lake Havasu. We are keeping blanket e-mails to a minimum so they don't become so routine that they are deleted without being read . The only e-mails sent out are the monthly newsletter, notices about Beaver Tales, and dues notices. Occasionally there may be a special e-mail such as when one member found a generator cover that came off another Bea-ver Coach. The end result is the cover found its owner who didn't have to spend over $1000 to buy a replacement. That paid for a lot of years of BAC dues. If anyone has any suggestions for the newsletter or has a need to contact all members of the club please contact me. Safe Travels

Mike

North West VP's Report

BJ and I missed the Hula in Hemet rally. Jerry and Chris Carr overcame some mechanical challenges, made it to Hemet and officially

represented Region 1 as Director. Jerry sent me an email that said the Board Meeting was efficient, there were around 70 coaches, and the team of rally masters did a wonderful job. A particular treat for all was the Bill Maloof Trio.

About the time you are reading this we will have barely completed our Dutch Oven Cookout rally with Arden (“Smitty”) and Carolyn Smith. This morning the 10th couple registered and I am look-ing forward to seeing how we teach ourselves some new cooking skills.

On July 13 a few of us will be gathering at Ft. Flagler State Park for a few days to take advantage of the best clam tide of the summer. I underestimated the popularity of clams and discovered the park’s res-ervation system filled so quickly that several BAC members didn’t get reservations. I suspect there will be Park reservation cancelations as we get clos-er, so if you are motivated to join in, keep checking the State’s reservation system.

I got an email from Marina Wolfgram. She and Mike are the Rally Masters for the Beavers BAC(k) to the Woods International rally in Canyonville, OR. Ma-rina wrote that reservations are already coming in, entertainers are being booked and there will be a Logging Demo. Golfers will not be disappointed and 150 sites have been reserved!

Assuming you are reading this in June 2015, Sep-tember 13, 2016 is only 15 months away and it is time to make plans, including letting Marina and Mike know how you would like to help. They would like help with a crew for setting up the Logging Demo. Additional help is needed for check in and rally bags. Marina and Mike’s contact information is in the rally ad on page 5.

7-Feathers RV Resort in Canyonville, OR is a great location for club rallies. A couple years ago we held the BAC’s 30th Anniversary Rally there. With about 130 coaches, it was the best attended rally in recent club history. The grounds are spectacular with excellent facilities and food service.

With the migration of the BAC “tribe” to the west for the international rally, there will be opportuni-ties to have a few rallies in the area for members to

attend. Already Jerry and Chris Carr are working on a “Spruce Goose” rally in McMinnville on Sep-tember 6th for a “lead in” to BAC(k) to the Woods. It would be fun to have a couple more rallies, or even less organized gatherings. Let me or Jerry Carr know if you are interested in planning a rally.

Recently we joined Dean and Anita Johnson for lunch with the Carrs. We asked, and Dean and Anita agreed to be the next Region 1 Director. “Of-ficially” it is Dean, but we all know the important member of the team will be Anita!

You’ll be reading this in June. Many of us in the Northwest who don’t snowbird need to do our spring routines. If you’ve not done it yet, exercise every-thing on your Beavers. Run the generator, the air conditioners, the Hydro/Aqua Hot, the water pump, flush the anti-freeze or stale water out, check the bat-teries and terminals, inspect the tires and tire pres-sure, make sure your tow-bar is “tight”, make sure the birds and bees have not nested in the refrigerator and get on the road!

Be sure your air brakes work! I googled for “air brake test checklist” and found a variety of written and vid-eo lessons. I was surprised how much I forgot.

Be careful to have safe motorhome adventures!

Free Cell Phone Concierge Service

Some of you used to use Google 411, (which later changed to Bing 411) to find businesses via your cell phone when trav-elling. Well now there is a new service that replaces Bing 411. It is the 24/7 Information Line and the number is 408-752-8052. No more will you have to pay for your cell ser-vice provider to look up numbers; or call restaurants to find out how to get there. 24/7 will find what you are looking for and tell you how to get there or connect you for free. Just tell the recorded voice where you are and what you need. There is even a cell phone app where you can get the in-formation printed out. Try it…you’ll like it.

And, in case you are interested, you can also use this service to find out about weather, news, sports, movies, traffic, driv-ing directions, cheap gas, stock quotes, and more.

RV Insurance Discounts by Ron JarvieMost RV insurance providers have some discounts available on the policies they write. The discounts offered will vary by company and state. Some carriers will also limit the total amount of discounts that can be applied to their policy.I have listed common discounts found on RV insurance policies, but there is not one carrier that offers “all” of the discounts. Your insurance agent needs to know which discounts would apply, so they can obtain the best possible rate from each of the companies they represent. The discount values may make a difference in which carrier would provide you with the best price.Discounts are broken down into two groups; Driver and Vehicle.

Well, not all of our adventures occur in the mo-tor home, believe it or not. We went to visit Natasha’s older cousin the other day in San

Francisco. We decided to park and take the bus to their house so we wouldn’t have to deal with San Francisco traffic. Even though Natasha was born and raised there, things have changed pretty dramatically since growing up in the 60’s. And that leads us to an almost true story:

We grabbed a bus. Since we’re both retired, we don’t pay a whole lot of attention to what day it is and what time it is. It happened to be a Friday and it happened to be 4:45pm. You can guess at what was going on: rush hour. So we were VERY glad we didn’t take the car. But the bus was crowded with tired folks going home after a long week. We felt sort of smug that we hadn’t been working and how nice that felt. But did I say the bus was crowded? Yes. So that meant after paying our fare, we needed to grab the rail and stand, swaying and wobbling as the bus moved along toward our destination. Every time it stopped to pick up more folks (no one ever got off as far as I could see), we both fumbled a bit, trying to keep our balance. Eventually, someone did get up and leave, and Natasha snagged a seat; I kept swaying and wobbling. After a par-ticularly quick stop, I almost toppled. I looked up to see a pretty young lady eyeing me. I smiled at her; she smiled back. Boy, I thought, I can still catch a girl’s eye, even if she is young enough to be my granddaughter. I was feel-ing pretty perky about that, thinking how glad I was that I was in pretty good shape and I could still get a smile from a pretty girl...until the young lady got up and offered me her seat. Boy did my bubble burst quickly!! Okay, laugh if you want, but when was the last time YOU were on a crowded bus?Hope you have all had a glorious spring. We came back to Napa after Hemet. Thanks to so many of you who helped make Hemet such a success. I know I’ve thanked you earlier, but you deserve to hear it again…THANK YOU! Here in Napa, folks are totally focused on the lack of water. There’s a mandatory 25% water reduction passed on down by the Governor, and cities are working toward getting their residents to meet that goal. Here at Mom’s house, we’re saving water in buckets in the shower. We miss the shut off valve that’s in the motorhome’s shower; there’s no way to shut off running water in the shower at Mom’s, unless you shut the water off. Then when you turn it back on, it’s freezing, and Natasha won’t tolerate that. So we save the cold water in buckets and use it to flush toilets and haul it out to the plants. Then she’s got a whole other thing going with washing dishes – I don’t pay much attention to that because if I did, I’d be washing them so I try to be out, doing important things like working on the motor home – which by the way is my all the time, every day excuse!Speaking of motor homes, have you signed up for the Shurtz’ rolling rally to Branson? They have some spaces available and if you’re going to Branson this fall (you ARE going, aren’t you?) this is a great way to get from the west

coast to Missouri with friends. You will be getting your kicks on Route 66 – or as close as you can get to it in this

day and age: I-40. And, you can pick up this rally any-where along the way. Not near Bakersfield, which is the start of the rally? Well, you can join up in Win-slow, AZ or Albuquerque, NM or Amarillo, TX or

anywhere else along the line. John and Kathy know how to put on a rally, folks, so get your name on that list!

After Branson, you‘ll find the Dam Rally in Boulder City, October 14-21, 2015 in Region 2. This promises to be re-ally interesting since Bob & Pam Blair are planning a tour of the city’s solar facility. Pam was the City Clerk for the City of Boulder so she knows all the interesting stuff about the area. They’ve arranged a special dinner at the historic Boulder Dam Hotel. It was built in 1933 to accommodate all the important people who arrived to visit the construc-tion of Boulder Dam – you know what it’s called now, right? It’s a charming place, full of history – the food is terrific! Yes, of course you’ll get to tour the dam … what’s the name of that dam again? As of this writing, that rally is full, but there’s a waiting list.

Then, in November you get to go back to Death Valley!! Natasha and I did a rally there in 2012 and we had great inter-est from folks who wanted to come back to the 49er encamp-ment. Well, thanks to Tim and Diana Bentley, you finally get to do that! November 7-15 the Bentleys invite you to join them in Death Valley for the encampment. Now, if you at-tended this encampment years ago, things have changed, so come prepared to enjoy all the new stuff that goes on. At-tendees can sign up for numerous contests available (golf, poker, pioneer costumes, picking and fiddling, horseshoes, etc.), or just sit back and enjoy the music. A no-host lunch at Furnace Creek Inn is planned and if you haven’t eaten there, believe me, it’s a treat. This will be a bare bones rally, and since it’s not a campground, there is no limit on the number of folks or FOBs who can attend. An added bonus, if you have a senior National Parks Pass, your camping is only $6 or $7 a night! Check out the ad in this issue for more informa-tion and get your money in.Finally, we’ll close 2015 with Napa Noel. At the moment, we’re finalizing all the activities, but for sure, we can tell you we’re going to a performance by Lucky Penny The-ater’s “Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical!” A trip to San Francisco on the ferry is planned, as is a tour of a local distillery – quite a change from a winery tour, huh? We’ll be adding on a couple of optional days if you want to go winery hopping. Keep your registrations com-ing and stay tuned for more details.Next year, look for Draft Horse Classic IV, a tour of Ne-vada mines, rolling rallies to and from the International Rally in Canyonville, and lots more!!

Ok, have to go back to try to install new Amish made guts for our refrigerator, and then put my CAT engine back to-gether after working with Dave Atherton to fix my prob-lem with lack of fuel……… this is another entire story I don’t have room for or time to talk about.

What's New on the Forum? (http://beaveramb.org/forum/index.php)Has anyone else felt that their Hurricane or Oasis combi units are too loud in that front passenger cabinet? Have you spent a night on the couch bed with slide out open and felt the vibration? Did you do anything to make it better? We have a vibration on our 2005 Monterey 38 but only at 55mph +/- it seems to be coming from the rear of the coach. Any troubleshooting suggestions are appreciated.I have read posts on changing the engine brake preselect from 4th to 6th gear which is something I want to do. Freightliner of AZ service advisor told me that he didn't think what I wanted to do was a good idea. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Hurricane in our '99 Contessa fires up promptly, but the lights on the remote control in the coach fail to light. Heat barely trickles out of the registers -- and I may be imagining that trickle. On the control box in the basement, I get a green light for power, burner and water pump. No fault lights are illuminated. Any clues?I have already replaced my ceiling lighting with the wafer LEDs from China, and I'd now like to replace the 40W sconce bulbs of my 1999 Beaver Marquis with a suitable LED. Has anyone done this and can they give the bulb description? I think they are candelabra bases, but not sure of the lumens or whatever else the LED should have so that it adequately replaces the 40s that are there now. When the master air valve next to the driver's seat is pushed down, it is very hard to pull back up to release the air brakes. It is so hard that the mounting plate it is attached to flexes upward quite a bit. Don't think it should be like this and was wondering if there is some way to lubricate or adjust to make it lift easier. Does anyone else have this problem? The top edge of the utility compartment basement door has become 'unglued' from the c-channel & frame for about two thirds of its length. I did see the post about removing the struts, retainer blocks and electric connector then lifting entire door off the belt-line channel. What do I use to reseal the gap? Thinking of something like JB weld

and a bunch of clamps to hold it after I take the whole door off. What was used originally? How does one prep the gap so JB would stick?

How do you remove a ceiling speaker cover? Before I go yanking and pulling on the white round speaker grills, I would like to know if anyone can enlighten me how it is done on a 2006 Monterey. Has anyone replaced these speakers? I appreciate any insight.

Just a friendly reminder to check your Egress Windows before you set out for this summer's adventures. We all have a propensity to think bad stuff happens to others while we overlook our own strategy of what to do if we really needed to exit our coach besides the front door.

Is there a preference among you folks for a bacterial additive for the black tank?

So, how are most of you Beaver owners handling tire balancing issues... beads, powder, screened valve stems or no screen valve stems, TPMS sensors with beads or powder or avoid using it with sensors, spin balance, spin balance just fronts, or possibly no balancing at all?

There is more to the Forum than just the technical assistance board. Check out improvements people have been making to their coaches (including TVs, floors, sofas, and even an extensive re-do of a 1992 Beaver Marquis), on the “Redecorating and Updating your Motorhome Board.” On the “Sources for Suppliers, Parts and Maintenance Materials” Board people have been searching for LED lights, fog lights, dash lights, and brake parts. Another post gives an excellent source for hard-to-find hardware. On the “For Sale, Rent or Wanted by Beaver Owners” there are several Beavers for sale but you can also find a water pump, awning, and even a Magnum Opus toilet! Several lots and even a condo in Hawaii are listed to rent/buy. Don’t forget to check up on the well-being of some of your Beaver friends that may need your thoughts and prayers on the “BAC Sunshine” Board.

Some Helpful Household Tips (See more at: http://www.glamumous.co.uk/2013/03/101-household-tips-for-every-room-in.html

For crystal clear ice cubes, allow a kettle of boiled water to cool slightly and use this to fill your ice cube trays

Don’t have a garlic press in the coach? Use a fork.

When hanging a picture frame, put a dab of toothpaste on the frame where you need the nails to be. Then simply press against the wall to leave marks (which can later be wiped) as guides for hammering in.

Don’t know if this will work in a Splendide, but try putting a dry towel in with a wet load to reduce the drying time.

To clean a wooden chopping board, sprinkle on a handful of Kosher salt and rub with half a lemon. Rinse with clean water and dry to en-sure it is clean and germ-free. Or leave a layer of salt on the board overnight to dry it out.

Place small ice-cube pieces in carpet inden-tations made by furniture to help lift them out.

Store bed sheets inside their pillowcases for easy compact storage and access. Stick a straw through upside down cupcake papers to cover drinks glasses in the summer and prevent flies from dropping in.

A ball of aluminium foil makes a great cookware scrubber

For even more storage, hang a cut off shoe holder inside a cupboard door.

Lost the back to your favorite earring? Use a pencil eraser instead!

WD-40 removes crayon marks.Easy open faced

Add a drawer knob to re-purpose a CD case as a pastry gift box.

Put the beaters through a paper platte to prevent spatters

Summer is upon us and we are looking forward to an exciting time traveling. We have met so many wonderful friends this past winter in

our travels and know that even more new friends are in store for us this summer. We had a marvel-ous time Hula-ing in Hemet at our BAC Interna-tional rally where some of the fellows showed us some nice hula moves and Elvis was in the house. Natasha and Jim Nichols did a great job with the rally and we really had fun. We followed that with the FMCA volunteer security rally and the FMCA Rally in Pomona and had a very nice time.

As I write we are visiting family on our way north to visit our kids and grands at our home in Mon-tana. Our adventures will begin again May 30 with the Great Falls of Water rally in Montana with Lon-na and Randy Connell. They will be Cooling off in Canada immediately following that. Then we have a whole string of 5 more Rallies in Region 3. What a great time! There is still room in some of these rallies and waiting lists for others, so if you haven't signed up and you want to, don't hesitate, it may still be possible to attend.

As I travel this beautiful country I cannot help but consider those who have gone before. We ride along in comfort, comfort that is unimaginable for some in this day and age, much less those who have gone before. We move along at a comfortable pace of 150-450 miles a day depending on where we are going. History is one of my passions and I often reflect on those who walked where I now drive.

Sacajawea was born about 1790 in what is now the state of Idaho. She was one of the "Snake People," otherwise known as the Shoshone. Her name in Hidatsa was Tsi-ki-ka-wi-as, "Bird Woman." In Shoshone, her name means "Boat Pusher." She was stolen during a raid by a Hidatsa tribe when she was a young girl and taken to their village near what is now Bismarck, N. Dakota, where French-Canadian trapper and fur trader Charbonneau bought Saca-jawea as one of his wives. When her husband joined the expedition at Fort Mandan in the Dakotas, Sa-cajawea was about 16 years old. From February 1805 until September 1806 she traveled with Lewis and Clark on their expedition across this continent to the Oregon coast and all the way back across to St. Louis, Missouri. Sometimes by canoe and some-times by foot she traversed this great country with a baby on her back. Traveling in a year and a half the distance we cover in a week. I constantly mar-vel at the endurance these people had. Crossing the Lolo Pass in the dead of winter, with temperatures well below zero, the entire party nearly starved to

death. Were it not for the Nez Perce Indians they surely would have perished. We can only imagine the miserable conditions they faced.

Update on Region 3 Rallies I am super excited about our upcoming rallies and want to bring you all up to date on what is hap-pening in Region 3. Due to so many of our mem-bers having visited the Dells in the past, we wanted to ensure that our rally participants did not have to pay to repeat an event if they didn't want to, so we have opted to make the tour and dinner show optional. Doing this has lowered the cost of the Divine Dells rally to $330. There is still room and time to register for this event. Come and enjoy the Dells with us.

The Divine Dells Rally is NOT the Madison securi-ty rally but will end the same day the security rally starts in Madison and will put you in the area. Rett Porter is still in need of volunteers for that rally. The Chicago FTE Rally is currently full but the waiting list is short so if you are interested in this rally there is a fair chance you could still attend. Great Falls of Water and Cooling off in Calgary are looking to be a great time and there is still limited space for both.

Until we see you again:May flowers always line your path

and sunshine light your day.May songbirds serenade you

every step along the way.May a rainbow run beside you

in a sky that's always blue. And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through.

Beavers Care by Judy Nunn

I make one of a kind needle felted creations and take commissions to do peoples pets. 100% of everything I get goes to animal welfare groups,

usually Best Friend Animal Society in Kanab, Utah.. It takes me from 7 hours to several days to do one of these little pieces. They are not toys and are considered collectible art I have had several orders from Washington to Massachusetts and the UK. Some of our Beaver members have ordered felt beavers. But if I want to continue to give I have to make more sales/donations. Please visit my website at:

Internet HumorThese are from a book called Disorder in the American Courts and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and published by court reporters that had the torment of staying calm while the exchanges were taking place.

ATTORNEY: What was the first thing your husband said to you that morning?WITNESS: He said, 'Where am I, Cathy?'ATTORNEY: And why did that upset you?WITNESS: My name is Susan!

ATTORNEY: What gear were you in at the moment of the impact?WITNESS: Gucci sweats and Reeboks.

ATTORNEY: How old is your son, the one living with you? WITNESS: Thirty-eight or thirty-five, I can't remember which. ATTORNEY: How long has he lived with you? WITNESS: Forty-five years.

ATTORNEY: Are you sexually active?WITNESS: No, I just lie there.

ATTORNEY: She had three children , right?WITNESS: Yes.ATTORNEY: How many were boys?WITNESS: None.ATTORNEY: Were there any girls?WITNESS: Your Honor, I think I need a different attorney. Can I get a new attorney?

ATTORNEY: The youngest son, the 20-year-old, how old is he?WITNESS: He's 20, much like your IQ.

ATTORNEY: Now doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in his sleep, he doesn't know about it until the next morning?WITNESS: Did you actually pass the bar exam?

ATTORNEY: How was your first marriage terminated?WITNESS: By death..ATTORNEY: And by whose death was it terminated?WITNESS: Take a guess.

ATTORNEY: Can you describe the individual?WITNESS: He was about medium height and had a beardATTORNEY: Was this a male or a female?WITNESS: Unless the Circus was in town I'm going with male.

ATTORNEY: Is your appearance here this morning pursuant to a deposition notice which I sent to your attorney?WITNESS: No, this is how I dress when I go to work.

ATTORNEY: Doctor, how many of your autopsies have you per-formed on dead people?WITNESS: All of them. The live ones put up too much of a fight.

ATTORNEY: ALL your responses MUST be oral, OK? What school did you go to?WITNESS: Oral...

ATTORNEY: Do you recall the time that you examined the body?WITNESS: The autopsy started around 8:30 PMATTORNEY: And Mr. Denton was dead at the time?WITNESS: If not, he was by the time I finished.

Hello to all our Beaver friends!

Since we have been, figuratively speaking, quarantined to Oklahoma with some health issues we have missed traveling and seeing everyone the first part of the year. Brent’s eczema/psoriasis is about as good as it gets and he is receiving quarterly steroid shots to help with the itching and I have had some blood pressure issues, which are now under control so we look forward to getting back on the road again!!

Region 4 has had a slow start in 2015 with rallies, but the second half of the year is looking up. Tale of Two Rivers, Sept. 5 – 12, hosted by George and Bev Morlan will be the next rally for our region. This will be a great rally, beginning in West Memphis, AR. The Branson International Rally looks to be

an awesome experience again, with Rally Masters Lamar Keck & Karen Rogers, Sept. 15 – 22. Never a dull moment in Branson, for sure! Following the Branson rally, we will host Boot Scootin’ 4 in the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards. This is a dry camping, fun experience to be had by all at least once. After Texas we will travel to Deming, NM for Pancho Villa II, Oct. 3 – 7, where we will spend one day in Palomas, Mexico, so be sure and bring your passport so we can all experience the “Pink Store” across the border with fun shopping and great food for all!

2016 brings us Desert Serenade in Quartzsite, AZ, Jan. 13-16, with Gerald and Glenda Farris as our rally masters. The Spring International, Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler will be held in Rayne, LA April 4 -9, 2016, with Roy and Vicki Warren serving as our rally masters. Rett and Claire Porter have arranged 4 more rallies before and after Rayne to keep you busy and entertained in the area. Check out the rally ads for more information.

As Always, Safe Travels and Big Hugs,

Julie

As I sit down to write this column for the first time, I realize how much I don’t know about this job and how much un-

der water I feel.

While only half a fiscal year has passed, our in-come is about 75% of the projected annual in-come. A lot of that is due to the fact that our dues income mainly comes in the first quarter and has exceeded the year’s projections. All the other sources of income are at approximately half of the projected income as one would ex-pect. Some of our incomes which are running below the 50% mark are Beaver Tales sponsor-ship, Overland Insurance, and the normal rally incomes. I expect with all the scheduled rallies this summer and with our International Rally at Branson that the income will exceed the pro-jected income.

The relatively large miscellaneous income is the proceeds from the items Glenda Farris sold in Kerrville.

On the other side of the ledger, our expenses are running about 45% of our projected expenses. We did receive a refund from Oregon for our state taxes of $250. We are still awaiting a report for the International Rally at Hemet but all BAC expenses have been paid. Since I have assumed the duties of Treasurer, we have had not had any unexpected expenses.

The balance sheet remains in good shape with our assets still exceeding our liabilities.

I will be happy to try to answer any questions any of you may have with regards to our financial health if you will contact me via my e-mail address.

Have a wonderful summer and enjoy some of the outstanding rallies listed in the Beaver Tales. There are a lot of rallies to choose from and I hope you will attend one or more.

Please remember to contact Overland Insurance to at least get a quote and also use our portal to shop at Amazon. Our income from these two companies helps us immensely. Also, don’t for-get to support our Beaver Tales sponsors. They advertise with us so give them a try.

In December we decided to host monthly lun-cheons during the first quarter of 2015 for our Beaver friends who happened to be in the

Central Florida area. With more than 80 members identifying Florida as their home base we thought it might be a good opportunity for a casual get together. The January luncheon was held near Orlando. In February we met in the Tampa area and in March we got together in DeLeon Springs State Park, not far from Daytona. Everyone who attended one or more of the luncheons seemed to enjoy both the food and the company. Hopefully we can continue these luncheons next year. If you have suggestions as to a restaurant, would like to host an activity, or simply want to attend one or more of the luncheons, please let us know.

Now that winter has come to an end and the snowbirds have begun their annual Northern migration, Eileen and I are excited about getting back out on the road. We will start in May by heading to Bend for some remodeling work on the coach. Once the work is completed we plan to head for the Mid-west to spend some time with family and friends. I have laid out the trip so that we can stop along the way and tour some of the State and National parks along our route (Glacier, Tetons, Devils Tower, Rushmore, Custer State Park, etc.). Even though I grew up in the North-west and worked in Seattle in the late 60’s I never managed to get out to Olympic National Park. We plan to remedy that on this trip. We should ar-rive in the mid-west in mid-July, where we plan to spend time with the grandkids in the Dells, Chicago and Indiana Dunes before moving on and joining our Beaver friends at several rallies on our trek towards Branson for the international rally being held September 15th – 22nd. We are looking forward to attending the Pure Michigan rally in Lake Leelanau, Michigan followed by the Chicago FTE rally. Next we will serve as co-rally masters on the Rally in Between II, which is a rolling rally starting in Fort Knox, KY, stopping at Cave City and ending in Nashville, TN. For the final evening in Nashville we managed to get some pretty good seats for the Grand Ole Opry. It should make for a good finish to the rally. When we depart Nashville we will be moving on to the Tale of Two Rivers rally which starts in West Memphis, Arkansas and ends in Little Rock.

Over the past few years we have been able to at-tend and participate in some pretty spectacular

rallies with the Beavers at some very reasonable rates. For example: Before signing up for the Lands' Grand Circle rally last year, we took a look at Fantasy Tour’s “Western National Parks” tour. The sights visited were similar but the Beaver rally cost was approximately 50% of the quoted Fantasy tour price.

A significant number of the BAC rallies held dur-ing this summer and fall of 2015 are focused in the Mid-west around the FMCA Family Reunion in Madison, Wisconsin (July 29th – August 1st) and the Beaver International rally in Branson, Mis-souri. The 93rd FMCA Family Reunion rally will be in Perry, Ga. March 17th to 20th of 2016 and the international rally will be in Rayne, LA from April 4th thru April 9th. Several rallies are cur-rently planned in Louisiana beginning on March 23rd. With 2016 dates in mind Eileen and I have decided to host a rally on Mobile Bay (the site of the first Mardi Gras celebration) from March 20th to March 23rd. This should provide a place to relax on the route to Southern Louisiana. For those who are interested in the local sites nearby, attractions include the Carnival Museum, USS Alabama, Bellingrath Home and Gardens, and Blakeley State Park. If there is enough interest, I will schedule tee times at Magnolia Grove on the Robert Trent Jones Trail. Finally to help hold the cost down we will make the planned activities ala carte and the rally fee will basically cover dinners and the campground fees for those just wanting to kick back for a few days.

The “Headin' South to Dixie rally” scheduled for Sep-tember 25th thru October 2nd has been canceled.

In March, Claire and I were back on the road headed to California. Our first stop was in Hemet for the “Hula in Hemet” Beaver International Rally. We had a great time,

as did all others who attended. Thank you to Jim and Natasha, Bill and Margaret, and Vicki and Roy for all your preparations. Natasha and Jim, rally masters, asked if I would give a seminar on FMCAssist which started Oct. 1, 2014, after 2 years without any insurance coverage. Over 50 members attended the session, and we provided handouts to give our members a check list of items that we recommend you carry in your coach when you travel. FMCAssist is a very valuable insurance coverage that is provided to you as part of your annual dues to FMCA.

When you travel for pleasure or business at a distance of 100 miles or more from your legal residence, FMCAssist, through Seven Corners Insurance, will coordinate the fol-lowing: Emergency Evacuation/Repatriation, Emergency Medical Reunion, Return of Mortal Remains, Return of De-pendents, Vehicle Return (in North America only), Pet Re-turn, Prescription Medication and Glasses Replacement. A very good summary of this coverage appeared in the October 2014 of the FMCA magazine in Jerry Yeatts’ column. BAC members have, unfortunately, been among the first users of this insurance policy. Paul and Jane Hale’s FMCA member-ship was current when Paul became ill when they were in Quartszite, AZ in January. Their current membership made them eligible for FMCAssist. I was contacted to help get Paul back to their home in Missouri, and that is when I contacted Seven Corners to help us make that happen. VERY IMPOR-TANT for all our members to understand is that at any sign of issues which you think may qualify you for using this cov-erage, you need to contact Seven Corners Insurance and tell them your situation. If you ask them to reimburse you after the fact, then you will not be reimbursed. Once you have contacted Seven Corners, then record the name of the person you contacted and stay in touch with them.

Charlie Adcock, FMCA National President, kept up with com-munications between Seven Corners Insurance and me as we considered the different scenarios of Paul Hale’s illness and fi-nally death as we worked to get him from Phoenix, AZ back to his home in Missouri. Dealing with Seven Corners was easy and straight forward. Paul and Jane used several of the benefits provided by Seven Corners, including getting Paul’s body back to Missouri and safely returning their coach home. Because Charlie knew of my involvement, he asked if I would give personal accounting of working with Seven Corners at two FMCAssist presentations at the FMCA Family Reunion in Pomona, CA. I sent Charlie a copy of our handouts from the Hemet rally, and he decided to reproduce the handouts for the attendees of these two Pomona presentations.

The handout got so much favorable response that FMCA is planning to reproduce it in mass and provide it to every FMCA member.

We are all sad that Paul Hale died, but his situation really en-lightened me and others on what we need to have together for our family and friends while we are traveling. Since FMCA is going to refine the handout and send it to all members, I won’t list those items in this article. If you need a copy before you receive it from FMCA, then I have put the latest version of the handout on the Beaver Website.

FMCAssist is such a valuable asset of your FMCA member-ship that you might consider paying your FMCA dues 5 years in advance. With the current program that FMCA offers, you will get 5 years for paying 4 years. And if your concern is you might not be RVing in 5 years, then FMCA has remedied that under the provision to have Associate Members. Once you decide to sell your coach, then you will want to maintain membership as an Associate Member which is also keeps you covered by FMCAssist. If you are traveling and more than 100 miles from home, then you can still use FMCAssist to either return your home or bring a family member to you in a case of medical emergency.

Security Volunteers at FMCASince I mentioned FMCA Family Reunion in Pomona, I send my sincere thanks Mandy and Violet Canales for all the work they did in organizing security, scheduling and social func-tions. All the volunteers made this a great event, and we were also able to get 4 coaches signed up as new members in the BAC. At Madison and Perry FMCA Family Reunions, Claire and I will be taking over the security details that Beavers have so strongly supported. Madison dates are July 29 to Aug 1, 2015. Perry FMCA Family Reunion will be March 17 – 20, 2016. If you are interested in helping us at Madison or Perry, then please send me an email at [email protected].

Prior to Madison, Roy and Patsy Boles are hosting a rally in the Wisconsin Dells. We'd love to see you there.

Safe travels and good health until we see you again.

Counter Intelligence By Mary Findley

Cleaning kitchen countertops can be tricky and requires a little ‘intelligence’ to prevent damage. I encourage folks to switch to green cleaners as they are healthier for you and our Earth. Even the greenest of green cleaners can damage some countertops, although the damage may not show up for a year or more. Dulled finishes, also caused by microfiber cloths, small pits, or etched marks in the finish all portray a sad story of cleaning agents gone astray. Let’s demystify the confusion over what cleaners to use on what surfaces.

Remember all-purpose cleaners, including green clean-ers, contain an acid to break down grease, oil, soap scum, and dirt. The acid may be vinegar, citric, or a soy base. These cleaners quickly dull the finish of marble, granite, tile, Corian, and composite countertops. An alcohol based window cleaner cuts grease with-out leaving streaks in its wake. Make your own cleaner by adding one/fourth cup rubbing alcohol to a new 32 ounce spray bottle then fill it with either filtered water or distilled water to help prevent water spots. Add a drop of organic non-acidic liquid dish soap to boost cleaning strength but be forewarned, it can streak. For the sake of your health avoid ammonia based window cleaners. The specs on countertop cleaning:

Formica countertops tolerate mild acidic cleaners. Since standard household cleaners often contain strong chem-ical acids, lean toward EPA certified green cleaners. If you are using a ready-to-use cleaner, dilute it for Formica countertops by pouring one-fourth cup of water into the spray bottle. If using a concentrated cleaner - good for you! – cut the amount recommended for general clean-ing by half to use on Formica countertops.

Marble, granite, and tile countertops are best cleaned with water only. Spray with water and dry immediately to prevent water spot formation. Purchase a new spritz bottle and fill it half full with rubbing alcohol and finish

filling with water to disinfect these countertops.

Clean Corian and other composite countertops with the rubbing alcohol and water combination. Immediately dry these counters. Remove scratches by first working with a bit of baking soda mixed with water to form a thick paste. Use a damp, soft cotton cloth, old white T-Shirts work well, and work in circles. Then progress to a white non-scratch pad found at the grocery stores. Dampen it with water and gently rub in circles.

Remove stains in Corian and composite countertops by pouring hydrogen peroxide on the stain. Cover it with a bowl and let it set 15 to 20 minutes. Keep the spot damp the entire time. If needed sprinkle on a bit of baking soda again working in circles. As a very last resort, try a Mr Clean magic eraser. Please use extreme caution with these pads as they do scratch. Quite a few folks have told me they remove stains when all other attempts failed. Wear gloves as they contain toxic chemicals.

*NOTE: Always place dishes, pots, pans etc. on a dish cloth rather than directly on marble, granite or Corian type counters to prevent scratches.

Mary’s Tip: Never use a dish rag to wipe counters or black faced appliances. That dish cloth has wiped dirty dishes and spreads the grease to the counter tops causing dif-ficult to remove smears.

Prevent future stains and scratches plus leave a Corian countertop shiny by applying a coat of a distillate free, polymer based car protectant. The polymers revive the color of the Corian and leave a protective coating on the finish to help prevent stains, scratches and dulling.

Mary Findley is owner of Mary Moppins, a line of cleaning tools, protectants, and eco-friendly cleaners. She is author of “The Com-plete Idiot’s Guide to Green Cleaning.” Her cleaning tips appear in magazine such as Woman’s World, Real Simple and Better Homes and Garden. How wonderful to welcome Summer Sunshine after a variety of weather patterns across the US and Canada. We’re progressing into the season with a great rally schedule. Our 40 new members may

look forward to a busy travel time.

The proration of dues that George Morlan has perfected is working well. For new members who signed up last year, your second year of membership re-flects a partial payment to complete the dues year. A number of members have also included dues for the 2015-16 fiscal year! The difficult part, those who choose not to pay for the partial year must be deleted from membership. Of course, this definitely produces a change in our membership roster on a monthly basis. We are so pleased to have 925 current BAC members!

Changes with the FMCA Software update have created challenges. You will now be notified before your dues are a month overdue. If they are not paid promptly, your membership has expired and the many benefits of FMCA no longer exist. Please be aware and pay immediately; also remember, current membership in FMCA is required for BAC membership. Complete access to the Forum is a tremendous benefit only to our current members. If you have questions regarding FMCA, please call 800-543-3622.

As reminder of the benefits of the FMCAssist program:FMCAssist coverage is available to members worldwide as long as you are more than 100 miles from home. You can be traveling in a motorhome, car, plane, ship, or motorcycle to be eligible for this benefit. If you are a full-time RVer, you are always considered 100 miles from home. Some exclusions and limitation amounts pertain to this benefit. Highlights include: • emergencyevacuation/repatriation• emergencymedicalreunion• returnofmortalremains• returnofdependentspluspetreturn• RV/vehiclereturn(limitedtoNorthAmerica)

The Snowbirds are migrating north, and thanks so much for any and all ad-dress changes, as the dates often vary from the ones you have previously stat-ed. Please remember, USPS will not forward if you choose to receive Beaver Tales via Bulk Rate mail.

The Hula to Hemet rally was truly an outstanding success, wonderfully or-chestrated with Rally Masters Jim and Natasha Nichols assisted by Bill and Margaret Cook and Roy and Vicki Warren. Each rally expresses individuality, this is what makes them all so special! The intimacy of a smaller regional rally presents the opportunity to really become acquainted and create lasting frien-ships as you explore a new area and a new venue.

Travel safely, enjoy the beauty of the season.
