Welcome to Beckenham Cricket Club, north-west Kent’s top multi-sports and social club, set in beautiful surroundings yet just twenty minutes from the centre of London.

Boasting a 130 year history of sporting activity and achievement, the club nowadays hosts seven popular sports – cricket, tennis, hockey, squash/racketball, running, football and netball – and caters for all standards from juniors and beginners to county level.

The grounds, among the most attractive in the Home Counties, are very convenient for Beckenham’s bus, train and tram connections, and contain ample off-road parking facilities.

Our lively and friendly bar is open seven days a week, and offers a varied daily menu of hot bar meals and snacks plus an extensive selection of real ales and good quality wines. As well as catering to players’ needs, the club bar also attracts a thriving social membership – from ex-players and partners to people who appreciate a pleasant and relaxing place to mix and meet friends, and enjoy the many social activities that take place throughout the year.

The Cricket Club

Beckenham’s cricket section is one of the best in Kent cricket and our Foxgrove Road ground provides unrivalled facilities. We run three senior Saturday league sides and the first team competes in the ECB Kent League Division One and the Kent League Twenty20 Competition, the finals of which we have hosted for the past two seasons.

We also run two sides on Sundays playing friendly games, thus catering for cricketers of all standards – from the enthusiast to the club’s current star, Kent Captain and England international Robert Key.

Past members include England Test representatives Derek Underwood, Richard Ellison and New Zealand Test cap Brent Arnel. In recent years three England U-19 internationals have also developed at the club.

Beckenham Lawn Tennis Club

After substantial investment the tennis section has some of the best facilities in the area with 18 courts including six on grass and the latest Floodlit Plexicushion surfaces.

A number of teams play throughout the year in Kent Leagues and junior tennis is very popular, with coaching on Friday evenings. There is an excellent balance of club and team play and a non-competitive environment for those who wish to play recreational tennis. Coaching is available from the Head Tennis Coach and the club hosts LTA-sanctioned junior tennis tournaments.

Local people may also book courts on a Pay and Play basis during off-peak times. The club has a great tennis heritage and hosted the famous pre-Wimbledon tournament for over 100 years, attracting some of the world’s top players.

Beckenham Running Club

Beckenham Running Club is a friendly, enthusiastic club with a growing local presence. We currently have around 100 members – including a healthy percentage of female runners – and the number is growing steadily.

We take part in a full and varied calendar of events, host our own popular annual races, and regularly perform well in area leagues and competitions against much bigger clubs. Our members range from serious road and cross-country racers to people who simply want to train, improve and enjoy their running, in the company of an encouraging and supportive group.

We meet at the clubhouse every Wednesday for a 7pm training run. Runners of every age and standard are always made welcome. From every perspective, if you want to get the most out of being an active runner, please feel free to come along and join us.

Bromley & Beckenham Hockey ClubBromley & Beckenham Hockey Club is extremely successful. It is pressing ahead with its ambitious development plans to become a leading hockey club in England at both senior and junior level.

The club currently runs 13 adult sides (eight men’s and five ladies’) each weekend.

The Men’s 1st XI play in the National League East Conference Division whilst the Ladies’ 1st XI are in hot pursuit of National League status as they compete in the top East Premier Regional League. The remaining seven Men’s sides (including a Vets and SuperVets side) compete in either the London or Kent Leagues. The Ladies’ 2nd XI competes in East League Division 2 South East and the remaining three Ladies’ sides compete in the Kent Leagues.

Bromley & Beckenham Hockey Club continued...Our very impressive Junior Section boasts over 250 children between the ages of 7 and 18, and both Sunday matches and training are provided for their development.

Older juniors are encouraged to participate in adult hockey on Saturdays and both the Men’s and Ladies’ First squads currently include numerous current and ex-juniors.

The squash and racketball section has four heated and well-lit squash courts available for members to play club, league and recreational matches.

The weekends are devoted to active club sessions allowing members of all standards to play and socialise together. There is also an annual squash and racketball tournament.

The Foxgrove Squash League provides an opportunity for members to play competitively at a level suitable to the individual.

The Squash & Racketball Club continued...There are Men’s, Ladies’ and Junior squash teams playing in Kent league and cup competitions.

The junior section has a dedicated coaching session on a Monday evening, which has produced some excellent representative players. Individual coaching with the club coach is also available to all members. The ever-increasing popularity of racketball has led to the introduction of the racketball ladder enabling members to challenge each other online. Racketball is also very much a part of the social side of the section with friendly matches organised against local clubs.

The Primary Club

The Primary Club – the cricketers’ charity that raises money for blind and partially-sighted people – was founded at Beckenham Cricket Club in 1955, and now has members all over the world.

The eccentric origins of the club go back to one particular match, and four hapless Beckenham players who each failed to survive a single ball of their innings.After enthusiastically reviving their spirits in the bar, they hit on the inspired idea of forming a club to raise money for blind cricketers – the only membership qualification being that of having a first-ball dismissal to your name.

The Primary Club continued...

Over half a century later, the club boasts nearly 10,000 members worldwide who have between them raised over £2 million, and in so doing funded many sports and recreational facilities for the blind and partially-sighted.

Over the years the Test Mach Special radio team – most notably the late Brian Johnson – have been avid supporters of the club and its works.

In 1997 Derek Underwood MBE, himself a former Beckenham player, became patron of the club.

How To Find Us

Beckenham CC is very easy to reach either from London or from Kent. From the centre of London there are regular train services to Beckenham Junction (twenty minutes from London Victoria) and to New Beckenham (twenty minutes from Charing Cross/Waterloo East/London Bridge). Both stations are within ten minutes walk of the club.

The club is only twenty minutes drive from the M25 (junctions 3, 4 or 6).

Beckenham Junction station is also on the Croydon Tramlink.

The 354 bus (between Bromley and Lower Sydenham) also runs past the club
