What an amazing first term we have had balancing between our spiritual, academic and co-curricular activities has proved to be a fruitful endeavour for both students and our dedicated team of staff. Thank you to all the parents who attended Parent Information Evening, it was a pleasure to meet you and for our staff to provide you with a plan that will assist in achieving the best results for your children as we build the essential partnership between home and school. The Parent Seminar presented by Sheikh Hamid Waqar on ‘Leading a Balanced Life’ was also a great opportunity to work with parents on optimising the activities of our children to achieve wellbeing in the fast paced environment of our modern world. The key messages were simple but effective based on modern research including the need for a quality diet, a good night’s sleep and a balance between spiritual, academic and recreational pursuits. Our College continues to thrive in the academic scene as we build our quality teaching and learning platform with strategic professional development for our teachers in the Literacy and Numeracy action plan to continue to build on last year’s significant growth in NAPLAN. There are more exciting announcements to make on the 2018 NAPLAN results in coming weeks. The Senior School is also working in similar fashion under the leadership of Mrs Ramadan and addressing the important aspects associated with the RoSA and HSC preparation in 2019.

Assalamu Alaykum Parents and Bellfield Community,

2019 Olympic games?

It surely felt like it as year 3 – 12 Bellfield students attended the 2019 Athletics

Carnival in record numbers.  It was a proud moment for the school with over 400

students attending the carnival to compete, support and join in the spirit of

sport, faith and togetherness.

The day started off with the 800m, which was a great indicator of the greatness

of athletes that was to come. We witnessed our students running

with all their might, pushing themselves to complete the 2 laps in the 35-degree

heat. You could hear the cheering of fans, teachers and parents as the racers

competed for first position.

We then moved on to the famous 100/200m races. WOW….as we witnessed our

little champions in action. I can definitely speak on behalf of all teachers when I

say this; we definitely have talent at Bellfield College. From our mini champions

on the junior side, to our leaders of the senior school, we witnessed athletes that

had nothing but the finish lines glowing in their eyes. Even those who did not

compete for positions were pushing themselves to try their best and complete all

races they entered.

Field events were something else with some of our junior students showed some

great strength in the shot put throws displaying strength that could definitely

make them victorious in representative carnivals. Our biggest field event display

was the senior boys high jump. A battle for top position was a very tight contest

until none other than Mr Paras stepping up and eliminating all senior boys with

one jump (didn’t even need a warm up).

BLUE, YELLOW, RED AND GREEN constant chants throughout the day from

students roaring through the stadium. This then became a battle of house

chants . All teams came up with 3 minutes worth of house chants, unfortunately

the red and green team were knocked out of the competition, which left us with

the Blue, and Yellow teams. The blue team produced a master class of creative

chants. Chants that you would hear at an English premier league soccer game,

but this wasn’t enough. The noise that the Yellow team produced sent shock

waves throughout the Campbelltown region. Their Syeda Khadija pride lifted

them to victory.

2019 Bellfield College AthleticsCarnival 3-12

Finally…time for the relay races. This consisted of every house group nominating their

fasted runners for the junior, intermediate and senior relay race. It was evenly spread

across all house colours and each team came with one victory. But…the teacher vs.

student race was something else. In both male and female races, the students

became victorious and left their teachers behind. It wasn’t meant to be for the

teachers and the students have the bragging rights for 2019. Don’t worry, the

teachers let them take this one, next year is a new year!!

With all these competitive races, one of the highlights of the day came as the sound

of the Adhan echoed through the stadium. All athletes, teachers and parents kept

their competitive nature aside and joined in as one during the congregational prayer.

It was truly a remarkable experience and beautiful site to witness.

Overall, the athletics carnival was a great success. Students, teachers and parents

were safe and happily enjoying the carnival. All events ran smoothly and the stadium

was kept in pristine condition. Congratulations to the Blue House (Lady Aasiya a.s) for

being victorious in the 2019 Athletics Carnival.

I would like to thank all the students for their efforts and excellent behaviour at the

carnival. It was truly a pleasure to witness such pride and honour during each of their

events and support towards their house colours.

I would also like to say a huge thank you to Dr Jebeile, Mrs Ramadan and all teachers

involved in the carnival. This couldn’t have been done without you and you really

pulled through to create a great atmosphere. Finally, I’d like to thank our

administratoin staff Swaleha, Sam, Amy and Grace for providing us with assistance in

the background.

Alhamdulilah the 2019 Athletics Carnival has officially been closed. See you all next

year.

Wa Salam

On Friday 8th March, our student leaders - Nour Hariri, Zeid Noun, Zeinab Mohammadi, Abed Hayek, Rida Said and IssaWacha Hasan attended the 2019 GRIP Leadership conference held at the Western Sydney University - Parramatta campus. It was a great interactive day where our leaders not only had to reflect on their own personal leadership skill but also how theycan use their combined abilities as a team to develop and implement student initiatives to best promote the culture of thecollege and the causes and issues they choose to support. For me the day reinforced what are the true characters of a leader: confidence with humility, focus on others, reliability andempathy. When I reflect on the student leaders for 2019, each one of them are a true leader: Nour Hariri (School Captain) with her positive nature and empathetic character and reliability to always get the job done, ZeidNoun (School Captain) with his willingness to contribute and give back with quiet confidence,Abed Hayek (Vice Captain) with hisconfidence to lead by example and lead with infectious energy and humility, Zeinab Mohammadi (Vice Captain) for her focus onhelping others in areas of her strengths and generosity with her time for others, Issa Wacha Hasan (Prefect) for his empathytowards all and humble nature, Rida Saif (Prefect) for her positive passion to make a change so early on in joining the collegeand her focus on helping others,Batoul Tawbe (Sports Captain) for her reliability and dedication to help, Mohammad Hayek(Sports Captain) for his positive nature and ability to lead by example, Layal Ibrahim (Sports Captain) for her reliability andpositive attitude towards others and Rouhulla Mousawi (Sports Captain) for his enthusiasm to help and empathy for others. Together these young men and women can achieve anything and I truly look forward in seeing what they can accomplish throughout 2019 and beyond Mrs Jennifer DowleySenior School Pastoral Care and Wellbeing Coordinator

Women's football or women's soccer is the most prominent team sport played by women around the globe. It is played at the professional level in numerous countries throughout the world and 176 national teams participate internationally. It is the dream of one of our Bellfield girls to one day be apart of one of those national teams, the Australian national team. Zainab Mohammadi has been working hard over the last few years both at school with her academic studies as well as out onthe soccer pitch. She has worked her way up from club soccer to this year playing for Sydney Olympic U17 in the NationalPremier League. To juggle HSC study and high level sport is not easy feat - it takes determination, organisation, drive and a dream for thefuture (as well as a lot of support from her family). Zainab is a role model for our junior students not only for her success in sport but also in her passion to give back. Zainab canoften be seen helping coach the junior Bellfield girls during her lunch breaks and also devotes time to participating in volunteerfootball events outside of school that will help promote sport for Muslim women and young women in general. She has beeninvited to attend to attend the "Women in Sport for Social Change" evening panel to be held on Friday 15th March in Sydneywhere she will hear from an exciting line up of emerging leaders, gamechangers and international guests of the YoungSportswomen for Change leadership forum. The night is designed to develop leadership skills and promote cross-culturalbonds through sport as they bring together women from Arab nations and Australian women harnessing sports' potential to drive positive social change in their communities. Bellfield College is proud to recognise and commend young adults like Zainab who dare to dream to be the best they can be. Jennifer DowleyPastoral Care and Wellbeing Coordinator Snr School

In this artwork, I have decided to draw and paint my dearest older sister. She is one of the most importantpeople in my life and she is such an amazing role model. My sister has always taken care of me in so manyways and I am eternally grateful to her. She is beautiful in many ways, talented in many ways and has such akind heart. Dear parents, This term the pastoral care team has been working hard to implement many strategies to improve studentbehaviour in the junior school. As a result of parents, staff and huge student efforts we are seeing a decrease in student behaviour issuesboth on the bus and on the playground. Student’s behaviour in the classroom has been outstanding. We have only had a few minor incidentsthroughout the term. This year to celebrate National Day against Bullying and Violence (March 15th) and Harmony Day/ImamAli’s birth (March 21st) students have not only participated in bulling prevention workshops, but alsoactivities in the classroom to consolidate their understanding. On Harmony day we had an Action Education performance to demonstrate to students the power of being abystander, and they learnt the theme “Bullying does not make you tough” through a fantastic, educatingacrobatics show.Students have also participated in a Say No to Bullying poster competition this term, creating someexcellent posters with the theme “Be Kind, Lend a Hand”.Thank you to all parents and students whom have worked with our team throughout the term, your supportfrom home is highly appreciated and necessary. KINDERGARTENA Term at a glance

Asalamu Alaykum,Dear Parents, What a fantastic first term it has been of learning and fun for kindergarten! From Star reader book fair, to Healthy Harold, to our recently mastered good morning routine, our firstterm has been nothing short of excitement! LiteracyThis year, we have commenced a brand new InitiaLit program.Through this program, kindergarten has learnt many new letters of the alphabet and can now identifyand read words consisting of these letters. We have got to know some special characters to help usremember the sounds these letters make. We have met Maggie Mouse, Sammy Seal, Tommy Tiger,Andy Ant, Poppy Princess and are finishing the term learning about Iggy Insect. Throughout this term, kindergarten students have focused on many storybooks and are now able todiscuss what happens at beginning, middle and end of these stories, we can identify the front, backspine, author, illustrator and blurb of these books. We have also created many creative artworks basedon these stories.A highlight for kindergarten was creating an igloo based on the story “The very Hungry Bear” and a 3Ddaisy from the story “Bogtrotter”. Students thoroughly enjoyed these activities. NumeracyThroughout numeracy lessons, students engaged in lots of fun and creative maths play. We learnedhow to measure the length of classroom objects using party streamers, how to tessellate different sizedareas using 2D shapes and how to create patterns using different objects such as blocks and shells. ScienceIn science, kindergarten have been learning about our living world. We have looked the features of livingand non living things and how we can use living things for food and clothing. We have looked at theprocess it takes for food to come onto our plates at home as well as how to eat a healthy range of foodsfrom the food pyramid. A highlight for kindergarten was exploring the dairy food group and making somechocolate ice cream as well as the fruit and vegetable food group and making a class fruit salad. CAPAIn CAPA music lessons, we explored musical concepts such as pitch and tempo through many wellknown Wiggles songs such as ‘Do the twist’, ‘Hot potato’, ‘Romp bomp a stomp” and “Fruit Salad” whichKP performed at out K-2 assembly. We also learned some religious songs such as “Allah madeEverything” which KC performed at our K-2 assembly. These were highlights for both classes as theythoroughly enjoyed performing in front of our friends and family. Overall it has been a very rewarding term with lots of reading, learning, playing, creativity and fun! We look forward to learning lots of new things in term 2 as well as our gymnastics lessons and ourexcursion to the farm. Kind regards,Miss Cardinale and Miss Paras

Across term one of 2019, Year 2 students have embarked on an exploration of living things aspart of their science and technology learning. Throughout the unit, students have been guidedthrough research and investigative process to identify the elements which various living thingssuch as animals, plants and humans require forsurvival, and identified the commonalities whichthey all share. This led to further investigation into the roles which air, water and nutrients playin the life cycles of all living things; through which students explored links to healthy eating andenvironmental sustainability. Students in 2C, 2M and 2A have also investigated the concepts of growth and reproduction ofliving things in an experiment involving growing their own vegetable and legume plants (seephotos below). The students have all been highly engaged in the hands-on tasks and theteachers have discovered quite a few green thumbs in their classes!Year 2 have gone aboveand beyond in their learning as they continue to research, observe and record their findingsabout the process of germination as their plants grow. We look forward to applying the knowledge gained in this unit to sustain and maintain our wellbeing and our environment. Reem Chokr

Assalamu Alaykum Dear Parents and Guardians,Year 6 have worked extremely well in all Key Learning Areas this term. We have seen so muchimprovement in their comprehension, writing and public speaking skills and their work ethic in class hasbeen exceptional. The lessons have been a mix of ‘education and fun’ and they have responded very wellto that. In Science, we have been learning about how food and fibre are produced sustainably in managedenvironments for health and nutrition. We turned this into a fun practical lesson where the students usedonly sustainable products to make a healthy sushi lunch. Although it was messy, students enjoyed beingable to take what they’ve learnt in class and put into something practical. Year 6 had had a flying start to the year learning many new things and acquiring new skills. We havebeen enjoying the athletics program run by Sportit and of course the athletics carnival was awesome. Weare looking forward to competing in an inter school League tag competition run by the Liverpool CityPolice Area Command on Thursday the 11th of April. We are also excited for the soccer clinic from theWestern Sydney Wanders at school on Friday 4th April. We were unlucky on our Jane Mcgrath Cricketday as the weather stopped the event on the day. Sydney Thunder came out and it was cancelledbecause of the thunder and lightning that day. Year 6 has run the competition last week with both year sixteams playing each other. The skill level of the boys and girls teams has really improved. Thank youYear 6 teachersMr Khreizat and Mr O’leary
