  • Message from the Chair of the Board

    Ms Hawraa Kash

In the name of Allah, the most beneficent, the most merciful.

    Asalamu Alaykum Parents and Carers

Term 3 has been emotional for our staff and students. We commenced

the term grateful for the continuation of face to face teaching, our annual

haj camp and Eid Al Adha (Festival of sacrifice) celebrations, journeyed

through the sad memories of Ashura and the sacrifices of Imam Hussein

(as) and his family and continue to mourn as we end the term with sad

loss of a dear sister in faith and strong supporter of the College sister

Mariam Hijazi, beloved mother of long standing staff member Haj Wassim

Hijazi. Sister Mariam was a beacon of light for our community and will

always be cherished and remembered for her warm happy outlook to life

and her devotion to her creator, which guided all of her actions. Sister

Mariam was a role model for us all and will be sorely missed by our

community. We pray that Allah (swt) eases the pain of Haj Wassim’s loss

and grants her the highest ranks of heaven (Jannah).

Also missed this term is our College CEO and Principal, Dr Sam Jebeile, as he takes personal leave. The Board of Directors is providing Dr. Jebeile the time and support he needs during this time. We ask you all that you keep him in your prayers whilst we look forward to his return. In the interim, all of our staff and leaders across both the Junior and Senior Schools are continuing to do a remarkable job supporting our students and families as we enter a busy period and continue to thrive during these challenging times.

As the Chair of the Board, I have stepped into the capacity of Acting CEO to continue Dr Jebeile’s work in providing ongoing support and strategic direction to the school.

In NSW, we have been luckier than other states with the low spread of

Covid 19 infection. Whilst it is mainly business as usual, the College

continues to closely monitor any updates from NSW Health and adjust as

necessary to restrictions and guidelines suggested. All parents have

recently received notifications from us regarding student attendance and

the need to keep children home if they are unwell or displaying even the

mildest cold and flu symptoms and the need to provide a negative Covid-

19 test result before returning to school. We encourage everyone to help

us keep our students, staff, and school community as safe as possible.

  • This term has seen many changes to daily routines and the way we

conduct normal school life. There has been a lot of work in the

background to ensure our normal events can still happen in a virtual

world. In a first for our College, our Junior and Senior school teachers

conducted the Semester 1 Parent Teacher Interviews via telephone.

Parent-teacher interviews are a corner piece of the partnership between

home and school. The discussions during these interviews provide insight

to both parties about how to better support and encourage our students

    to achieve their personal best.

I sincerely thank all parents who made the time and effort to meet with

our teachers as it is testament and reflection of your dedication to your

child’s learning and well-being. Parents do not need to wait for interview

season to access staff. The College encourages parents to continue the

dialogue with teachers who can be accessed any time via email or phone.

Our staff are committed to working with and supporting parents and are

more than happy to communicate with you at any time.

Our Illuminations department have worked tirelessly to provide engaging

and rich learning experiences during the global pandemic. While COVID-

19 restricts having parents onsite we hope you were able to experience

the Hajj Camp program through photographs and videos on the Bellfield

College Facebook page. Term 4 will start with annual Arbaeen program

and end with the celebrations of the Prophet’s birthday and the birth of

Prophet Issa (Jesus), peach be upon him.

Finally, we extend our prayers to our HSC students whilst studying and

sitting their examinations early in Term 4. There is always a mixture of

anticipation, nerves and even relief as the exams approach. Our Head of

Senior School and compression teachers have equipped the students with

the knowledge and skills to guide them through to the completion of their

examinations. May Allah (swt) grant them all the strength and success as

they complete yet another chapter of their schooling life.

On behalf of the College Board and management, we pray that all students and families enjoy this term break and we look forward to working closely with you again in Term 4.

Peace and blessings Hawraa Kash Chair of the Board

broadcast throughout the year and can see their smiles are priceless. They have developed new friendships, overcome fears and set some new goals.

We have reached the end of another wonderful term, and with only one Term to go for 2020,

we now think of the successes, the achievements and the challenges of an enriching year. We

thank God for the collegiality and the goals of the Bellfield community that kept us well aligned

    and focused.

Looking back on the progress made throughout the year, I am confident in saying we are

on our way to achieving our 2021 benchmarks.

    Warm regards, Ms Mouina Ramadan

    Ms Ayah Balloot

Assalamu Alaykum dear Parents & Community,

As we transition back into face-to-face teaching and our students settle back into routine we are planning and preparing

for the end of our 2020 school year. Term 3 is a time of change in perspective and transitioning of attitudes for the 2021

school year. We teach students to shift their thinking and their scope of education into the next chapter of their school

lives. This is particularly true for our current Year 10 cohort who have undergone their final round of Senior Subject

Selections. As a junior student, they are now encouraged to adopt a more mature and focused attitude to help them

succeed in their chosen subjects. Similarly, junior grade students are encouraged to think about course demands and skill

    development over the coming years.

Over the course of Term 3, our students have cultivated the essential skills of English, Languages and Creative Arts

through their face-to-face and virtual Canvas classrooms. The online platform serves as a source of student engagement

and allows children to reflect on their learning by accessing their in-class courses at home. Teachers have created

modules, assessments, discussions and interactive content to keep students up to date and learning for a very fast

paced world. Majority of student assessments this term were due via the online platform and I commend all students

for their diligence and engagement with core course modules online.

A quick recap of the Term 3 curriculum is below. Students should be proud of their achievements and their assessments

submitted. Samples of assessments will be featured in our Term 4 Senior School Weekly to recognise the individual

achievements of students in each grade. Well done to teachers and students alike, who have worked hard and achieved

    a range of skill development.

    Stage 4 English

Year 7 Students have studied the conventions

and creation of picture books. For their

    assessment students are creating their

own picture books for a target audience

    by thinking imaginatively and creatively

about information and ideas to respond

to and compose texts. We cannot wait to

see the picture books they produce!

Year 8 Students are busy learning about the art

of persuasion and the way we can create

    engaging speeches. For their assessment

    students are creating a persuasive

    speech around their chosen topic

focusing on effective language choices to

    creatively shape meaning with accuracy,

    clarity and coherence. Students will

present their speeches to the Year

group in Term 4, Week 1.

    Stage 4 Languages

Year 7 Students have been learning about the

way in which we use grammar to

explore the eating and drinking habits

    of different cultures and backgrounds.

Students have also been looking at the

ways we can create healthy habits and a

lifestyle to fight off common diseases.

As part of their assessments, students

have created a menu identifying and

reflecting on cultural ideas, values and

beliefs in a range of Arabic-speaking

    communities.

Year 8 Students have been comparing foods

from different cultures and using language to write a recipe. Students have been working on

identifying and describing the kitchen and

tools used in the kitchen. Students have

    demonstrated their knowledge of key

features of the diverse cultures of

    Arabic-speaking communities through

the creation of a recipe of their choice

    (see images below).

    Stage 4 Creative Arts

Year 7 Music Students are exploring the theory of

music and notation. In class, teachers

are demonstrating the different ways we

record and write music. Students are

using their understanding of notation to

create a musical instrument that plays 2

different notes as part of their

    summative assessment. Ms Derbasi and

    Ms Rammal have demonstrated the

creation of a musical instrument for

students in an engaging and interactive

    Music lesson!

Year 8 Music Students are studying Musicals and how

cinema can be transformed into stage

plays. Their assessment is a mix of

theory and practical where the focus is

on The Lion King. Mr Hussain has been

    busy analysing stage productions and

    sharing his personal experiences of

Drama and Music to help create an

engaging and relevant unit for the

    students.

  • Stage 5 English Year 9 Students are partaking in a thematic

film study where they look at the

relevance of cinema on their everyday

lives. They understand and evaluate the

    diverse ways texts can represent

    personal and public worlds. Students

will be assessed on their understanding

through an in class examinable essay in

Week 10. Wishing the students all the

    best for their assessment.

Year 10 Students are studying the ways in which

    information and storytelling can be

shared. The focus for this unit is the

Power of Podcasts with a textual focus

on Serial. Students are learning to apply

    knowledge, skills and understanding of

    language concepts and literary devices

into new and different contexts as this

module is a steppingstone into Senior

Stage 6 English, preparing students for

the different types of literacy and

    multimodal elements in Stage 6.

    Stage 4 Creative Arts

Year 7 Visual Arts Year 7 students have been exploring

the Elements of Art and the Visual Arts

    Frames in their unit Creative

    Beginnings. Students explored the ideas

of mixed media through the use of

colour, texture, tone and line. As part

of their assessment, students created a

still life artwork that focuses on the

    structural visual arts frame. This

    assessment allowed students to explore

    the historical and critical interpretations

of Art and apply a range of artmaking

    conventions and procedures. Well done

to our first year Creative Arts students.

Some of your work has been

    outstanding!

Year 8 Visual Arts Year 8 Visual Arts have been exploring

artist practice with a focus on depiction

of hybrid animals and monsters. Students have been developing skills in

    digital media, developing hybrid animals

using photoshop at school and home. As part of their assessment, students

    extended their original concepts by

    developing paintings of their hybrid

    creations on skate decks. This

    assessment allowed students to explore

    different artmaking conventions and

    procedures to make artworks that

recognise and uses aspects of the world

as a source of ideas, concepts and

subject matter in the visual. Well done

to all students who completed their

skate decks. These will be on display in

our College Library for all to see early

    Term 4.

Stage 5 Creative Arts Year 10 Elective Visual Arts

    Students are focusing on surrealism

    artists that have produced artworks

    based on dreams and nightmares.

    Students have been experimenting with

techniques during this art period and

    will produce collagraph printing and

dry point printing in the printmaking

process. As part of their assessment

students are developing a range and

    autonomy in selecting and applying

    visual arts conventions and procedures

to make artworks through their theory

and practical work. Well done to all

Year 10 Elective students who have

    challenged themselves and their artistic

    ability.

Year 10 Elective Drama This term, students have focused on

political theatre. They have looked into

the current social issues and analysed the

ways that we can trigger and promote

change in an audience. For their

    assessment, students worked in

    performance groups addressing a current

social issue (see images below). Students

performed for their class and their

    performances were thought provoking

and critical. They selected and used a

    performance space, theatre conventions

and production elements to achieve their

    thought provoking and insightful

    performances.

    Miss Ayah Balloot

    Year 7 Music

Students are using their understanding of notation to create a musical instrument that plays 2

different notes as part of their summative assessment.

  • Science, Technology, Engineering

    & Mathematics (STEM)

It has been a wonderful term for the STEM team as students navigate through the

understanding of Science in their everyday life. Year 7 have been studying mixtures

and separation techniques. The aim of this curriculum program is to develop Year 7

students’ understanding of the nature and practice of chemistry and its applications in

daily life contexts as well as its implications for society and the environment.

Students have been relating a range of techniques used to separate mixtures and their

underlying principles such as filtration, decantation, evaporation, crystallization,

chromatography and distillation. They have also had the opportunity to demonstrate

these techniques through first-hand investigations. By the end of this unit, students

will be experts on determining how substances and materials can be separated in our

    everyday lives.

The Year 9 Science students were excited this term to demonstrate Chemical

reactions taking place by burning a green powder called Metal Carbonate which made

bubbles and released C02 gas that caused the Limewater to turn milky. This experiment

allowed the students to put on their thinking caps and observe and deduce how heat

plays a big role in the reaction of chemicals.

Year 10 Science Students at Bellfield College have investigating how electric circuits

work. Electrical circuits are everywhere in the modern world – hidden in the walls

of our houses and packed inside our phones, computers and cars. Engineers are now

working at knitting circuits into our clothes so we might one day wear devices that

continuously monitor our health. During science lessons students investigate the

following - What is electrical current and how is it created? What are the necessary

components of a circuit? What are voltage and resistance, and how are they related?

What is Ohm’s law? Students were charged up for a lesson on electrical circuits!

    Kind Regards,

exploring action and reaction. Students have constructed the motors and

sensors then they connected the motors and tried the different types of

sensors which were push, tap and wave. The students have also built the

hopper robot as well as the rhino robot.

Students have also explored the coding component of the robots. They

were able to code the robot to display an emoji and a message on the

hub as well as including a variety of sounds. Students will design a

robot to perform a particular task for their assessment which will be

    due in Term 4.

Foundation coding skills help students to develop their problem solving

skills as well as their communication skills. Careers in coding include

software application development, web development, computer

    systems engineering and database administration

  • Creative Mathematics

    Mr. Javid Karimi

Year 10.5.3 Mathematics have been creative in combining Trigonometry with a meaningful storyline. They

have created a comic book which contains many mathematical problems that have been solved using trigonometry. The students have enjoyed this task and have been taking this task very seriously and used their

creativity to demonstrate their potential in various fields. Some students have drawn diagrams in their stories and some have used the story boards website. Students have used their imagination to make their

Mathematics teacher Mr Karimi to be the superhero, supervillain or even a detective.

Ali Ibrahim & Ilhaam Hyder two comic books that are connected

to each other. One story is about the supervillain and the other is about the superhero who fights against the same super villain.

Students have gained a sense of appreciation in studying Trigonometry as they have seen how relevant Maths can be in

    real life situations.

In 10.5.3 we also make sure students have developed a deeper understanding of Mathematics concepts to prepare them for Compression. Some HSC concepts have also been

    taught throughout the year.

In Mathematics, students have had the opportunity to

demonstrate their mathematical skills in a variety of ways so

they can strengthen other skills while achieving Mathematical

outcomes. Students have achieved the following outcomes in

    Mathematics MA5.3-1WM, MA5.3-2WM, MA5.3-3WM, and

MA5.3-15MG by completing this task and they have also

We are well on our way to ending another busy term of change and growth in HSIE. Our

students have travelled far and wide during their history lessons. Join us on an adventure as we journey through the historical topics and knowledge our historians have learnt.

    Stage 4

Year 7 went on a journey through the Colossal pyramids, Valley of the Kings, golden treasures,

reading of hieroglyphs, and learning about the mysterious mummies uncovered in Ancient Egypt.

Students have immersed themselves into the Ancient Egypt culture through investigating sources,

writing in hieroglyphics and even learning the process of mummification!

Year 8 explored the lives and experiences of three key social orders in western Europe during the

Middle Ages: the aristocracy, the church, and the peasantry. They mapped the course and history

staring from the early Middle Ages, the upheaval caused by Vikings, the expansion of European

power and even studied the black plague.

    Stage 5

Year 9 examined world events from 1600 to the present. They explored the impact of the

democratic and industrial revolutions, the forces that led to world domination by European

powers, the wars that changed empires and the effects of global interdependence; yes they have

been working very hard! It has allowed them to think about concepts historically and analyse

sources and perspectives in order to draw conclusions.

Year 10 students have been learning about the Fights for Rights and Freedom within Australia and

around the world in History. Students have been presenting their presentations and speeches on

their chosen topic in front of their peers. Some of the topics they chose to present on include The

Cold War, The Women’s Rights Movement and last The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

    Civil Rights Movement.

  • Transition to Senior School

    Friday 16th

    October 2020

    Assalaamu Alaykum,

Year 6 students will participate in a Transition day program on Friday 16th October 2020. Students will meet

senior schoolteachers as well as experience secondary school practices. Students will interact with current year 7

students, attend lessons held in different classrooms with different teachers, and learn about different expectations for

    both performance and responsibility.

The beginning of secondary school evokes a variety of emotions, behaviours and concerns for students and their

parents or caregivers. It can also provide students with an opportunity for a fresh start as they are introduced to the

culture and expectations of a very different school environment. At Bellfield College we aim to support students with

their transition to secondary school on many levels.

Stage 1 - Social and Personal Every student in Year 6 will complete a student survey. The survey addresses social and personal needs as we aim to

reduce their concerns and possible anxiety and build the personal confidence of each student.

Stage 2 – Transition to Senior School Extend students' knowledge about secondary school. All students are encouraged to manage their transition into

secondary school and to develop independent learning and reflection skills. Each student is empowered with

information about learning and achievement and with the confidence to engage in learning in the new environment.

We aim to develop positive student / teacher relations by presenting Senior School teachers with Student Portfolios

created throughout the year. These Portfolios provide valuable information about student’s background, interests and

    abilities.

Students will also have in class visits from Arabic and visual arts teachers in preparation for stage 4 learning

    outcomes.

  • A Message from our Head of Junior School

Ms. Jennie Harold Assalamu Alaykum Dear Bellfield families,

Congratulations to students, staff, parents, and all members of our wider school community for reaching the end of Term 3,

2020. Thank you to all families for partaking in our half yearly parent teacher interviews via telephone call early in Term 3. If you did not get a chance to discuss your child’s progress with their class teacher, it is not too late. Please feel free to contact the school to organise a suitable time.

As we continue to adhere to safe hygiene and social distancing practices, many school activities continue to remain on

hold until further advised by NSW Health. Where possible however, we have been able to host incursions and sporting

programs for our students which have really helped to boost learning and wellbeing at school and get all students back

into their daily routines and on track this term. One of my fondest ‘in house’ memories of Term 3 was our ‘National

Pyjama Day’. Students collectively raised $425 for children in foster care and had a wonderful time learning in the

comfort of their warm winter pjs.

The K-6 Gymnastics program also began this term. It has been delightful seeing our students outside and active, enjoying new and challenging physical activities, tumbling on mats, balancing on beams, and jumping on mini trampolines.

As a new staff member to Bellfield, it was an honour for me to witness my first Hajj Day with all students across

Kindergarten to Year 6 participating. Students immersed themselves in the experience and the view from the holy Kaaba

atop our new building was moving. I look forward to future iterations of the Hajj Day experience for our students.

Our student leadership team was also afforded the opportunity this term to reconvene and have begun meeting regularly

to devise school improvement measures to support the student body. Student leaders will continue to play a more active

role in managing lost student property and loaning play and sports equipment to students in the playground.

Despite COVID19 restrictions, we also worked closely with our optical and dental providers this term to ensure they

were Covid safe, compliant practices to deliver the best possible optical and dental care to our Bellfield families.

Additionally, we hosted the Start Smart program (CBA), a series of interactive, educational workshops designed to

motivate and inspire students and give them the confidence and skills to make smart decisions about money. Our

budding little entrepreneurs in Stage 3 continue to work on ideas to give back to their school community and charity

organisations, with our school fundraising team.

A highlight for Kindergarten this term was a visit from Taranga Zoo! Students enjoyed their hands-on experiences with

the collection of lizards and small creatures the mobile zoo brought to Bellfield. The children learned about different

animal species and their natural habitats.

Week 5 this term saw Junior School celebrate Science Week! Student learning was enriched throughout the week with

countless hands on and awe-inspiring scientific experiments taking place in all classrooms. In recent weeks, many junior

school students sat for an ICAS exam in Science, Digital Tech, English, Maths, and spelling. We wish them well and look

forward to receiving their results in the next couple of weeks.

Finally, we will be finishing what has been the busiest term this year, with National Child Protection Week, Fiver for a

Farmer and our Arctic themed Book Fair. Don’t forget to stay updated via our Weekly Bulletin, shared on WhatsApp

every Friday. Stay safe and have a wonderful school break with your families.

    Yours sincerely,

  • Junior School Updates Early Stage 1

    Ms Bianca Cardinale Assalamu Alaykum,

    Dear Parents,

What a fantastic last term it has been of learning and fun for Kindergarten!

From Pyjama Day, our Zoo Incursion and our Gymnastics program, we have been very busy

    learning and exploring new things.

    Literacy and CAPA:

In Literacy and CAPA lessons, students have been learning about ‘our animals’.

We were supposed to visit the zoo this term. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we

were unable to attend. Instead, Taronga Zoo came to us! The zookeepers brought in and

taught about different animals and reptiles such as a green tree frog, a two-headed lizard, a

ringtail possum, a bearded dragon and a box turtle! We had so much fun and learnt about

the habitats and characteristics of these reptiles.

In Literacy, we have also been learning about descriptions and information reports about

different sea, zoo and farm animals such as turtles, lions, koalas, crocodiles and meerkats. We

have learnt about their habitat, their appearance, what they eat and how they move. We have

also created sculptures of various animals such as an echidna. We used clay for the body and

spiky materials such as toothpicks, pipe cleaners and paper clips to represent their spikes.

    Science and Technology:

In Science and Technology lessons this term, we have learnt about different materials and their

properties. We have been exploring our school and the materials it entails. We have been able

to utilise the iPads to capture images of the different materials around the school such as the

metal seats, the timber doors, the glass windows and plastic chairs. We are currently in the

process of putting together a proposal for some new school playground equipment and are

exploring the College to see the best location for our new playground.

Throughout Science Week, kindergarten students were able to conduct hands-on experiments in

the classroom. We used skittles to make a pattern around a plate, poured water over the skittles

and watched the colors melt into a swirl on the plate. We created a cloud in a jar where we

explored that when warm water evaporates inside the jar, it adds vapour inside the bottle. We

then dropped a match into the bottle, which trapped the smoke inside causing a ‘cloud’ inside the

jar. We also completed a ‘magic milk’ experiment where we placed some food colouring blobs in

a bowl of milk and discovered that when we add some dish soap, all the colours swirl around on

their own like magic. At first the food colouring stays on the

  • surface but we learned that the soap causes a chemical reaction and breaks the surface tension

causing colourful swirls in the milk. We thought that was pretty cool!

    PE:

This term, Kindergarten students participated in gymnastics lessons. We have learnt how to

perform basic gross motor and locomotor movements safely such as how to roll in a

summersault, swing on the bars, kick up into a handstand and land in a motorbike when

    jumping off a trampoline.

    Awards:

Kindergarten students have been working very hard to collect merit awards. We have has so

many students receive Stage Coordinator Awards over the last few assemblies. Please

remember that once you have collected 10 merit awards, hand them to your class teacher so

you can receive your Stage Coordinator Award! Huge congratulations to the students who

have already received one and are working towards their bronze award.

We are looking forward to more fun, learning and events throughout Term

4! Have a safe and wonderful holiday.

Miss Cardinale, Miss Paras and Mrs. Hioki ☺

  • Stage 1

    Mrs Marina Boussi

"Technology will never replace great teachers, but technology in the hands of

great teachers is transformational." George Couros

This Term Stage 1 students have been creatively using ICT across all the Key Learning Areas

(KLA’s) in preparation to successfully enter the 21st century world.

Stage 1 students are continuously participating in ICT tasks, whether it be in the Computer

Lab, using the IPAD’s or over the Interactive Whiteboard in the classroom. These sessions

provide students with opportunities to develop basic skills, such as turning on computers,

login in and navigating to the suitable applications to developing more complex skills, such as

word processing, editing and inserting images or researching information over the Internet.

These ICT tools have enriched our sessions, motivating students to collaboratively construct

knowledge and share information. ICT provides students, with different styles of learning,

diverse options for taking in and processing information, making sense of ideas, and expressing

learning. Studies have also suggested that students learn best through visual and tactile modalities, and ICT can help these students ‘experience’ the information instead of just

    reading and hearing it.

Incorporating ICT is just another way of approaching teaching and learning experiences, and ICT in the classroom is a tool that is fundamentally enhancing what is already being applied in

the classrooms. Term 3 also presented students with CANVAS in Science and Technology.

CANVAS is a Learning platform that allow teachers to structure their learning materials using

an interactive model. This term students experienced this Via the Interactive Whiteboard, engaging in various activities from viewing interactive visual stimulus, to investigating outdoors

and recording at their desks. This form of blended learning model has become key in our

teaching and learning programs across all KLA’s.

Developing an understanding of the context when using ICT, including a sense of the form of

techniques used, the characteristics of the users and the technologies, is important. With the

'new literacies' comes new ICT skills, as literacy is no longer limited to reading paper books

and texts. This Term Stage 1 have experienced new literacies in a balanced blended learning

model, which is essential for students to master if they are to be literate for the 21st

century. ICT can be used to do traditional things in a different, more motivating way!

Here 1M are engaged in publishing their paragraph writing, transferring their written into

digital text. IPAD’s are also a great way to review those sounds!!

  • Here 2C are engaging in interactive math games, to consolidate the learning

that took place in the classroom.

IPAD’s are great tool for collaborative

    research!

    Always Learning…

Mrs Marina Boussi Stage 1 Coordinator

  • Stage 2

    Mrs Lina Saleh

    Assalamu Alaykum,

    Dear parents,

I hope you and your families are all in the best of health

inshaAllah. This term has been a great term for Stage 2

    students.

Year 4 students attended their very first Hajj Camp/Day and absolutely loved it! Hajj Day took me back to my very own Hajj experience last year. InshaAllah we all get a chance to go back one day.

In PDHPE, Stage 2 students have been learning about

changes that happen in their everyday life. They have

explored changes that occur as they grow and develop

such as friendships, loss and grief, and personal identity.

Students have learnt about changing physical, social and

emotional responses related to these changes. They have

learnt strategies they can use to predict and manage their

    emotions before making decisions.

It has been a great term for Stage 2! We are all looking forward to the final term of the year! I hope you all have a

fantastic holiday and take a well-deserved break.

Stay safe, stay happy and stay well.

    Warm regards, Mrs Lina Saleh

    Stage 2 Coordinator

  • Stage 3

    Ms Fatima Mchawrab

    Assalamu alaykum, Dear parents,

Term 3 has been a busy time for our Stage 3 students. They have been working hard

throughout all subject areas and are all excited to tackle Term 4. A big thank you to our Stage

3 teachers who work hard every day to plan fun, exciting and educational lessons for their

    classes.

    English:

Students in 5/6M have been focusing on advertisements this term. They brainstormed, planned

and designed their own flotation device and then created an advertisement to try and sell

their flotation device to their target audience. Students focused on the structure and language

features of persuasive texts to sell their product.

    Science:

Students in Year 6 have been studying the science of sport and how different forces are a part

of the sports we play. They observed gravity by creating small parachutes from a plastic bag

with string and attached a small item with a little amount of mass. These were then thrown

from up high and timed to see how long it took for them to reach the ground. The force was

friction was also looked at. To create a visual example of friction, the Year 6 students made

ramps and put different materials on top of them. With every time a new material was put on

the ramp, a marble was rolled down and timed to see how long it took for it to reach the end

    of the ramp.

    History:

Stage 3 have been exploring the impact of the relative monocultural society of Japan in

comparison to the multicultural diversity of Australian society. In class students have consider

ways in which these have influenced the customs, beliefs and social organisation of the two

nations. This has been done by comparing the economic, demographic and social similarities

and differences between Australia and Japan.

    Junior School Gymnastics

Over the term, all students in Kindergarten to Year 6 have participated in Sport It Australia’s Gymnastics program. The gymnastics program provides a highly motivational environment

where strength, speed, agility, balance, fine and gross motor coordination, cooperative skills

and self-discipline are all incorporated. These lessons are part of the PDHPE and sports curriculum. Students have enjoyed joining in on these lesson every week and building on

their fine motor and coordination skills

  • Junior School Illuminations

    Sister Julie Karaki

    Assalamu Alaykum,

As the month of Muharram slowly approached, the atmosphere at Bellfield college began to adopt a sense of

deep reflection and awareness of a looming tragedy. A tragedy that although causes devastation to the hearts,

somehow leaves them mended on account of recognising the importance of standing firm with ultimate truth

and rejecting all forms of oppression. An event that allows a believer to shed tears of sorrow whilst

simultaneously recognising all the impurities we have allowed our hearts to gather over the year due to being

neglectful of our very souls. It is through such tears shed for Imam Hussain (as) that hearts become easily

purified and our visions are once again restored with clarity.

This year students reflected on the sacrifices of Imam Hussain (as) in the playground through the banners

reminding them of Imam Hussain’s objectives and firm conviction.

On morning assemblies, in Illuminations as well as Quran class. Some through drawings, writings, videos,

    discussions.

  • And then there was our annual Ashura event.

It is through moments like these that we pray the seed of love for Imam Hussain (as) is deeply implanted in

our hearts to ensure that our students never waver from the path of the noble Prophet Muhammad (s). A path

of truth that encourages a person to live their life to the very end in the way of service to causes that benefit

    the entire humanity.

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Julie Karaki. Illuminations Coordinator.

  • Year 6 Canberra Incursion

    On Friday 18th

September, Year 6 students participated in a ‘Bringing Canberra to Bellfield’

incursion. Students had the opportunity to participate in several activities where the experience of Canberra was brought to Bellfield. They visited the Parliament House where they learnt about the ‘House of Representatives’, ‘House of Senate’ and the process of passing a bill through a role play. They visited the Australian War Memorial on a virtual tour and created poppies in remembrance of the ANZACs. Students learnt about the federal electoral system while at the Educational Electoral Centre and had the opportunity to experience the preferential voting system in action. During the Questacon visit they participated in a scientific investigation where they observed the effect of adding red cabbage to acids and bases in comparison to a universal indicator. We thank Dr Ali, Mrs El-Hourani and Mrs Hijazi for their assistance with the experiments. During the Australian Botanic Gardens visit, students completed a lino carving and lino print of their own floral emblem design.

Students then enjoyed some time on several inflatable games including a big slide, mini sports

inflatables and even a game of bubble soccer! They had dinner and concluded the evening

watching an Outdoor movie under the stars.

  • National Child Protection Week

Week 8 of Term 3 was

    National Child Protection

    Week. Students in Junior

    School participated in activities

    in the classroom relating to

    this year’s theme “Putting

    Children First”. They learned

    that this means children

    should feel safe, happy and

have access to a family home

and a doctor when they need

    one.

SRC Students spoke on to the students about this week during our morning assembly.

Students then had a chance to complete a poster to pair with this year’s theme. These could be handmade, or submitted online via google classroom. This week the SRC students

selected some winners who will receive a prize shortly! Congratulations to all of our winners,

your amazing posters are now on display in the Junior School Office!

  • Student Representative Council (SRC) News

Semester Two Student Representative Council students received their badges last week, in a

small in class ceremony. The Semester 2 SRC’s will be helping out with lots of exciting initiatives in Term 4 this year.

They are working on some new school rules posters, bringing out skipping ropes and

equipment at lunch time, setting up and running a Walk and Talk a Thon and many

more exciting things. Please continue to check the Junior School Weekly for updates!

Thank you very much to our Semester One SRC students whom all did a fantastic job in

their role. I am excited to see how our SRC can help in Junior School!

    Mr Hussein Akil

Football has been measured to create passion, love, comradery, and

respect for people all over the world. It is through football that individuals have an opportunity to meet others and become more than

    just acquaintances.

At Bellfield Football Club, our aim is to have a community who is

willing to join hands and create a footballing family. This family will provide the opportunity for the youth to participate in sport and physical activity. Not only to play football,

but have the right guidance to become inspiring role models to the future generations. One day our players

will encourage people to take part in football and have a positive influence on the community.

This year was our first year playing in the Southern District Football Association. We had 4 teams that played

in the non-comp competitions and for most of our players, this was their very first time playing football. We are honest in saying that it was a tough year, especially with COVID-19 playing a huge part in it all. But, we are

blessed to have such great parents who supported the teams from the very start.
