Analysis Arms and The Man

We knows that everybody whom read this novel is so excited when they read arms and

the man. This drama was discussing several points; one of them is the romantic heroics of

war; he wanted to present a realistic account of war. It is ot, however, an anti-war play; istead,

it is a satire on that attitudes which would glorify war.

Another points is idealism; Bernard shaw show that there is no such thing as a perfect

human being by making the idealistic characters, riana and sergius, make mistakes such as

lying an cheating, and they also confess that the way they act in front of each other is only

discusess real love and that it can’t be stopped by different social classes as in sergius and

louka’s case or problem, or by different countries like in bluntschli and riana’s case.

The last point that was discussed is social class, how they react with each other; the

upper class presented by the petkoffs and the lower class presented by the defiant servant

louka, also goes with this point that people in the same class are different; for example, nicola

is servant who knows how to do his rule well and he respects the people, he works for on the

other hand, there is louka who I defiant to the people she serves and she’s an ambitious

women who doesn’t want to spend th rest of her life as a servant. Shaw used satire to send his

messages in this drama. He also used coincidence to get to the actions and keep the story

going. Another thing he used is narration based on parallel by making counter parts for the

main characters; the counter part for rianais louka; and the counter part for sergius is

bluntschli. His methods in saying what he wants through the play made it so funny and

enjoyable in reading.

In this poins I just decribe several main characters and give the brief explanation and I will

prove my statement by writing the text from drama arms and the man.
