The relationship between fashion and architecture revolves around a singlecommonality: the human body. Both disciplines are based on structure, shape, the organization of space and prettying up the details. Clothing and buildingsprotect and shelter the body, while providing a means to express personal andcultural identity. It's not surprising to learn that designers such as Pierre Cardin,Gianni Versace and Tom Ford all studied architecture, and their love of avant-garde style, clever use of geometric shapes and motifs, together with theirunabashed use of bold color have consistently influenced their collections.

Perhaps one of the best examples of architecture's influence on contemporaryfashion is the trend of color-blocking. After making a strong debut in thespring/summer seasons, the fall/winter collections continue to explode withstrong, vibrant hues in an array of luxurious textiles. It's a trend that's reminis-cent of the eighties. Bright, splashy, and playful, but with a more reserved, edit-ed approach this time around. Color-blocking simply means pairing two ormore blocks of colors in one ensemble. This could be a top, a bottom, a tunic, adress, even makeup, a handbag or shoes.

The key to successful blocking is to start out simple and keep this formula inmind - one bright, one bold and one neutral. Begin with a solid bright top andpair with a nude skirt or basic black pant. Once you've gotten the hang of it,you can add another bold color to the mix. Combinations that look particularlygorgeous together are cobalt blue, canary yellow and black, chocolate, neonpink and nude, and rich purple, teal and bright blue. For a softer look opt forcoral, grey and ivory - ultra feminine. Too much color? Pairing black and whitemay be the classic, hall of fame color-blocking combination that never goes outof style.

When in doubt, cheat - and buy a color-blocked dress or invest in a two-toneclutch and just add lots of neutral. This seasons' offerings means you don't haveto surrender to the exuberance of summer just yet - enjoy a bright fall.

Fantasy and Splendor! Two key concepts thatthe much celebrated Italian shoe designer,Giuseppe Zanotti, strives to capture in all hisdesigns.

A creative artist since early childhood,Zanotti's love affair with shoes (and women)began with a drawing of his mother's stilettoheels. Sketching has always been inherently vitalto Zanotti, not only as a way to bring life to hisinspirations, but as a balm that effectivelysoothes his perpetually active mind. Music playsanother major role in his creative process, in facthe was a successful deejay before entering theworld of design, and music features areomnipresent in his studio.

Beginning in the mid 1980's as a freelancedesigner for prominent fashion houses, Zanotti capitalized on hisexperience and success by opening his first factory in San MauroPascoli, Italy. More than 25 years later, he employs 450 crafts-men and produces 350,000 pairs of shoes per year with bou-tiques from the US to Russia, Bahrain to Singapore. His bejew-eled footwear brand is synonymous with luxury and prestige andcoveted by an illustrious client list, that boasts the likes of DemiMoore, Eva Mendes, Rhianna and undisputed shoe lover extraor-dinaire, Sarah Jessica Parker. Beyonce, Kim Kardashian and AnjaRubik all turned to the Italian designer for their bridal creationsand a swathe of international celebrities chose Zanotti to gracethe red carpet on Cannes' famous Croisette earlier this year.

I was fortunate to catch up with Giuseppe on his recent visit toBeverly Hills where he exclusively premiered his 2012 Resortcollection at Saks Fifth Avenue. He said, "I like to imagine my

shoes as part of a women'sbody, shoes are just an extension ofthe legs". Zanotti took great pride explaininghow each pair of his shoes are entirely handmade in Italy

and demonstrated how he creates a perfect fit by focus-ing on the last and architectural structure of each design. As he told his tale of architecture, fine leather andsparkling crystals he sketched flowers, landscapes, bal-loons, and even exotic cocktails which became hisinspiration for his latest collections. As a result, theresort and spring/summer 2012 collections feature anexplosive array of extreme contrasts in volume andshape. The Zanottiwoman will be treatedto surreal platforms,ultra-slim cigaretteheels, color blockwedges and crystalmosaic sandals. Everypair, is an exquisitepiece of art. Ofcourse, I couldn'tresist the temptation to

try on some of his sparklingseductions and easily sur-rendered my credit card fora pair of candy coloredplatforms. What's a girl todo in that position? I'veworn Zanotti shoes foryears, but when the manhimself slipped one of hiscreations on my foot I didwhat any star struck fanwould do. I asked him forhis autograph on the bot-tom of my new shoe.

This permeability and vibrant dialogue between theinterior and exterior worlds are key hallmarks of Meier's designs andmade it the perfect locale for our shoot this month - a collaboration offashion and architecture.

It houses an enviable collection of 150,000 programs, spanning almost100 years of television and radio history and featuring news footage, public affairs programs and documentaries, performing arts and chil-dren's programming, sports, comedy, variety shows and commercialadvertising.
