Write an essay of 1000 words based on the question given below.

How do the symbolisms in the playA Dolls Houseprovide a deeper meaning to the major theme

    of the drama.

According to The Little Oxford Dictionary Seventh Edition 1994 p668, Symbolism means

artistic movement or style using symbols to express idea or emotions. In literature, symbolism is

used to provide meaning to the writing beyond what is actually being described. The author uses

an object or reference to add deeper meaning to a story. An author may use the same object to

convey deeper meaning or may use variations of the same object to create an overarching mood

    or feeling.

Symbolisms also often used to support a literary theme. Symbolisms may be obvious or more

subtle or hidden so that the reader must really think and study the work to grasp the authors true

meaning. Authors embed subtle images into their work to make it deeper, richer, more

meaningful and colourful . Symbolisms is supplement to the story.

Symbolisms can give a literary work more richness and make the meaning of the work deeper.

These are some examples of symbolism;Love is a jewel ,this is symbolic because it suggests that

love is rare and precious,You are my sunshine ;sunshine is to represent hope, and Where is myheart? heartto represent love.

Throughout the text, we can describe few major theme in A Dolls House, first, women are not

treated as equals with men, either in relation to their husbands or society, as is clear from

Torvarlds horror of his employees thinking he has been influenced in a decision about

Krogstads job by his wife. Second, the female characters of Nora, Mrs Linde and the Nurse all

have to sacrifice themselves to be accepted, or even to survive. Nora not only sacrifices herself in

borrowing money to save Torvarld, but she loses her children when she decided to pursue her

own identity. Third, Mrs Linde sacrifices the true love of her life, Krogstad, and marries a man

she does not love in order to support her dependent relatives. The Nurse has to give up her own

child to look after other people in order to survive financially.

    CONCLUSION:

In the A Dolls House play, the use of symbolisms to the characters and the story of this play

helps me to understand the story better. The plot and action take place in the story can be

thought of as one level, while the symbolism of certain things in the writing act on anotherlevel to enhance the story. Symbolisms is important because it adds depth to the story. It

emphasizes a certain point the author is trying to make. The imagery a symbol can create and

helps the author portray a massage. Symbolisms also can make a story more interesting and

provide intriguing details to the reader. Symbolisms are good way to make people think, too.

To fully understand the massage and the story, we need to understand the symbolism. To

understand symbolisms, we have to think.
