Birth: Jun. 9, 1770Death: Nov. 24, 1819
Born in Rome, Italy, in 1770, The Servant Of God, Don Francesco
Albertini, came from theParish of San Nicola In Carcere, at
PiazzaMontanara, one of the most degredated areasof Rome in the
Eighteenth Century. Sincechildhood, Francesco showed a passion
forantique signs of Christianity and plaques,which across the whole
of Rome, especially inthe Catacombs and prisons commemoratedthe
faith of the Early Christians who shedtheir blood for their belief.
His Parish, built on
a former prison, was full of such plaques.
Albertini was ordained to the Priesthood at 22years of age in
1793. On the occasion of theCentenary of its donation, several
groups
joined in prayers in front of the Relic of theMost Precious
Blood on December 8, 1808,including a young Gaspare del Bufalo
(1786 -1837), to whom he assigned the Panegyricfor such an
occasion. Noticing the greatdevotion people held towards this
relic,Albertini decided to promote a group of Priests honouring the
Most Precious Blood,leaving in charge Gaspare, as no one elseseemed
so devoted and capable for such apost.
Successively, like Gaspare del Bufalo, Albertinirefused to take
oath in favour of NapoleonBonaparte and thus they were
bothcondemned to exile. During this period, theyworked hard to
promote the devotion of theMost Precious Blood, with Holy Cards
bearinga prayer for devotees being printed inthousands, including
editions in foreignlanguages.
Back in Rome after four years of exile,Albertini and Gaspare
kept on pursuing their
noble projects. With the help of a highranking Prelate,
Monsignor Belisario Cristaldi,Albertini obtained what he had long
hoped for: Gaspare del Bufalo accepted to dedicatehimself entirely
for the realization of anucleus of Priests willing to promote
thedevotion of the Most Precious Blood throughtheir Homilies and
Spiritual Exercises acrossthe world.
The decisive moment finally arrived on August15, 1815, when the
Congregation of theMissionaries of the Most Precious Blood wasborn
at San Felice di Grano. The Congregation

was born officially on that day, but its rootsdate back to 1808,
when Albertini decided tobegin the project.
When Monsignor Franois-Xavier Pereira wasnamed Bishop of Rieti,
Albertini wasappointed his Successor as Bishop of theDiocese of
Terracina, Priverno e Sezze onMarch 29, 1819, by Pope Pius VII,
receivinghis Episcopal Consecration from Cardinal
Alessandro Mattei on the following April 18.
Immediately, Albertini worked hard for thepromotion of the
Congregation, organizingand participating in numerous
"MissioniPopolari", across his Diocese.
Unfortunately, his Episcopate was short. Afteronly six months
from his EpiscopalConsecration, Albertini died after a severebout
of malaria at the Bishop's Palace inTerracina on November 24, 1819,
aged 49.He was succeeded in Office by Msgr. CarloCavalieri
Manassi.
With the death of Monsignor Albertini,Gaspare del Bufalo
remained the sole heir tothe Congregation. And with fellow
memberBonanni named Bishop of Norcia, he remainedthe sole guide of
the Congregation, which wasnow being called the Archconfraternity
of theMost Precious Blood. The great dynamism of Gaspare, his deep
predications, his persuasivemethods, with himself being the
protagonistof this Mission of Evangelisation, made thedevotion to
the Most Precious Blood - aspredicted by Albertini - a mass
movement.Don Gaspare was infact called by many asthe "Spiritual
Earthquake", and the "Tromba
del Divin Sangue".
On Thursday, May 13, 2010, at 9.30 am., theCanonical Exhumation
of the remains of DonFrancesco Albertini took place at theCathedral
of Terracina. His Pectoral Cross wasfound among his remains, while
his zucchettocould still be clearly seen attached to hishead.
Don Albertini had a very important role in thefoundations of the
Congregation of the MostPrecious Blood, more than anyone could
everthink. The most convinced figure of this wasGaspare del
Bufalo.
